IN WHICH THE INSANITY DEEPENS
Well, the reception to my experimental fic Comma Comma turned out to be far greater and far more positive than I could have ever imagined. That's probably because popular user Estee – who knows exactly which Story Writer Todd "inspired" it and thus got the joke – discovered it two minutes after it dropped and loved it so much she decided to shout it out to her 1,400 followers. I'm extremely grateful for that, but it does make me concerned that the new followers I've gained from this might have the wrong idea about what I do here and may be disappointed once I return to form with my next story.
The majority of what I write is Sunset Shimmer. More specifically, it's Sunset Shimmer going through and recovering from severe mental issues. It is, in a way, part of my own therapy. Regardless, she needs help, and in the absence of doctors, she must rely on a small support network of friends. Many of my other stories concern a burrito restaurant where characters attempt to eat, and have rambling internal monologues with copious song or cartoon references in the process. There's also my ongoing saga about Spike and Mayor Mare where the latter is always drunk and things explode more often than not.
I'm considering using my next blog to re-post Comma Comma… with commas and semicolons added back in, just to see what it should look like. It would ruin the joke, but it would make the grammar Nazi in me satisfied.
Peace out!
4459631 - I'm afraid that would ruin the joke even more.
No, my idea for this story's Chapter 2 was Luna falling under the influence and banning capitalization or letter cases or quotation marks or something. Some older English novels don't use quotation marks, instead sectioning off dialogue with an em-dash (—Like this, he said.). I'm going to look through my books and see if I have one that does that so I can use it properly.
There's already a reference in "Comma Comma" to Ancient Greek and its… unique… style, which only a couple of readers managed to notice. Classical Greek (and Latin) once used what's now called capitalis quadrata and scriptio continua – THATMEANSTHEYLOOKEDLIKETHISWITHNOSPACESLOWERCASEORPUNCTUATION. Plus, Ancient Greek switched its writing direction over time, at one point being written in a style called boustrophedon -- that means it alternated left-to-right and right-to-left each line, like a zigzag.
Full Disclosure: I had to go Wiki the proper terms for these things to write this comment.
Yeah, my fics often have "Genius Bonus" references, along with old music shoutouts.
