I now commit the ultimate heresy in announcing that this is my favorite Star Wars movie. It ain't about space wizards and destiny, it's about a band of lost, broken souls giving all they have left for the barest ghost of a hope, and it's marvelous. I look up and can only hope my drama works (which often have similar themes) may one day evoke half as many emotions.
The commandos. The doomed fighters who broke through the shield. The suicide run of the hammerhead corvette. The Alderaneans who saw Vader and knew exactly what came next... magnificent, all of them.
Really? Please say you are just kidding!
Saw it yesterday, that was a pretty amazing movie.
Only three. only three only three
I felt exactly the same thing. As much as I love the grand story about the mysticism of the Force and destiny and all that, Rogue One felt "real". It talked about the "little guy" that enabled the big hero get there, only to get forgotten in after it's all said and done because the main stories always focus on those main characters.
I've read people saying that it was cheesy, but that final part with the desperate rush to get the plans out was one of my favorite moments in the entire franchise. Also, K2's final moments and that moment when Cassian and Jyn realize that they won't be leaving.
And there are people whining about CGI...
It was a decent movie. I liked the more adult tone and the props looked like they were from the 70s (crt screens etc) as they should. Even some hairdos were from the 70s. Nice touch.
CGI Tarkin hit uncanny valley hard.
My biggest issue was that the only character who had a personality was the droid. Red Letter media deconstructs it fairly well:

I've been meaning to see it but people say the characters are bland and that's turning me off, well-written characters are the reason I enjoy movies, I love seeing all the different personalities mesh. Is it worth a watch anyway?
One thing I liked despite what other said, was a certain character's one liner about choking, I thought it was a genuinely scary one liner.
Maybe not my favorite Star Wars movie, but definitely one of the better ones. I legitimately came close to crying at the end. One thing that I really liked is that it's the first time a Star Wars movie really pointed out the whole "War is Hell" trope, though the movie's theme could be summed up as "War is Hell, but sometimes, it's worth fighting."
