So I Updated Dash of Humanity 3 · 5:51am Nov 27th, 2016
And it's not April Fools, nor an alternate reality. It may be a different author who killed Kaidan and is masquerading around in his skin though.
So probably the most interesting thing from re-reading the 3 stories and now updating it, is that I knew exactly how I wanted the story to go up through DoH2. DoH3 is more vague, there's a ton of stuff I want to do, and realistically I shouldn't cram it all into one story (if it should be in there at all.) Also I went too far on the whole "beat up on Dawn" dynamic and as great as Alchemist's Heart is, I think it's time for a new inspiration for DoH3, and about time the universe found somepony else to abuse.
So the story will probably get a lot less dark fast, but other than a general desire to give Dawn a shred of happiness, I'm not sure what else to do with it yet. So read, give thoughts, and answer some of the following questions (if you didn't already in the last blog).
1. What are you looking forward to / predicting in DoH3?
2. What non-DoH3 story are you looking forward to? (if you need ideas, I've got a sex doll TF story, Puppet to her Fame 2, any of my currently hiatus'd fics, a new DoH style HiE with a new pony, or a Pony X is a serial killer style story.)
3. I didn't mention this before but... is patreon even worth bothering to clean up and start using again? I've been doing so much professional shit with websites to help me get a job lately and I got to think about all my un-used accounts (google+, twitch, patreon, hell I probably have a Kaidan twitter at some point) if I should delete them all or keep using them. (I'm reluctant to put "you've fapped to my work" on my resume.)
4. There's an "Author's Chat" on Teamspeak in December (sorry I missed the last one if you were looking forward to it) So Dec 27th if you want to badger me on voice, check out this guy's blogs for updates
5. Are you downloading porn? (My internet is super slow right now, as if a million Americans cried out at once as porntube started buffering.) Clearly, slow internet is why this update is a year late.

I'm not dead, but Kaidan... well I can only "Weekend at Bernie's" him for so long before I have to throw him away.
1) The things I look forward to in DoH3 are Dawn finally stabilizing. The poor thing has been drawn through a wringer and is barely holding together. I understand that someone cannot go though such trails and come out unscathed but I agree that an Alchemist's Heart style conga line of tragedy won't be as interesting. It would just be more of the same. Dealing with pregnancy and relationships with other ponies are something that I'd like to see. Also more external conflicts. Many of Dawn's struggles have been internal, which makes sense considering what has happened to her, but it would be nice for Dawn to not constantly be at war with herself and focus on some external issue to manage.
2) I really like the TF/TG style stories. They don't even need to be clop. I just love the premise. The DoH style HIE is also exciting, I think that DoH is a great story and the fact that I can remember specific scenes all these years later speaks of its quality. Also Plant Problem was great but don't tell anyone, its a VERY guilty pleasure

Yeah, Alchemist Heart and When a Pony Calls influenced the story's style and direction. I didn't plan to go as dark as I did, and I don't plan to go as dark as AH. With hindsight I can re-evaluate it, as it wasn't my intention. For AH though I really liked that the author stuck to his vision through to the end, even though at a certain point he lost most of the fans because he still wanted to take it darker.
You know, they assume Dawn is dead, but he was in the middle of a fully-staffed hospital and his organs were only failing because there were 2 people in his body. For all we know he's just in a coma, hooked up to life support. He could always take a little vacation to vegetable city.
But joking aside, how fucked up would it be after everything is finally some semblance of normal and Dawn has two foals to help raise if Celestia stops by "Good news Everypony! Dawn can go back!"

DoH3 could be heading towards a closure, but there's the whole Soarin Buisness, and the possible intrusion from other sources. (As mentioned, some external conflict, though don't just magic away the recovery process, that would be a shame.)
Knowing when to wrap up a story with a well derserved final is a good thing.
If you feel like, you could start a small more slice of life /sporadic story about Don's venture into parenthood
Or at least an Epilogue
Personally, I can just imagine the foals pranking Don with Poison Joke some 4-10 odd years into the future
Have you made a mind map of all the loose ends? Maybe some of them could use a tie up?
Open ends are alright, but too many loose ends leaves readers fustrated
