The Voices of Princess Celestia: The Changeling Queen continued... Equestria's Changeling Queen and the Abyssal Empress Voices · 5:46am Sep 10th, 2016
So a little while ago, I talked about the Voices of Princess Celestia: the Changeling Queen in a blog post, and who'd I'd cast for all my original characters.
Here are a few more:
Captain Buzz
VA options: Jeff Bennet, Michael Weatherly
Reference: Johnny Bravo, Tony Dinozzo (Live action TV, NCIS)
I loved that cartoon when I was a kid and so I modeled Buzz after Johnny Bravo's character, albeit, he has a bit more intelligence and is far more honorable. Jeff Bennet, Johnny Bravo's VA definitley has the voice for it, though Buzz in actuality would talk far slower than Johnny does.
Another good option would be Michael Weatherly, actor for Tony Dinozzo, the casanova character of the NCIS forensic series. Granted, Buzz is far more successful at getting ladies than Dinozzo, but I'd think his actor would give Buzz a fairly good chivalrous pervert voice.
Captain Harlequin
VA: Scott Menville
Reference: Robin from Teen Titans (... and yes from Teen Titans Go, but we don't talk about that one)
Teen Titans was one of my favorite cartoons when I was younger and I really liked Robin's voice which embodied leader, but also emotional as well as insecurity all in one. Unlike Robin from Teen Titans, Harlequin doesn't have that much pride or angst, but he'd have the same drive, the same analytical outlook and the fierce loyalty for his cause.
Captain Diamondshell
VA options: Zelda Williams, Nicole Sullivan
Reference: Kuvira (Avatar: the Legend of Korra), Shego
An initial thought was to have Tara Strong do something akin to a tsundere Raven from Teen Titans, without the rasp, for Diamondshell, but then I realized that Diamondshell's greivances with her hive, with Alternia for that matter, have a lot more to do with hurt pride than emotional hurt. She is haughty, she can be mean, and she is ruthless, which is why I think that a voice like Kuvira from Avatar the Legend of Korra, would make the most sense. She has a voice that embodies authority, and Kuvira voice most certainly does, and at the same time, a bit of malice towards her enemies...
That being said, another choice would be Shego, and her VA Nicole Sullivan, because her deadpan humor is so totally Diamondshell not to mention her complaining and criticizing... i could totally see Shego's voice as Diamondshell's.
Retariusil
VA Options: Cameron Diaz,
Reference: Princess Fiona (Shrek),
This one again was a toughie and what started as a blend between two voice references led me to settle for one. I initially thought Princess Fiona as the voice of Retariusil because Cameron Diaz gave her so much feist. Issue is, the anger of Fiona's character never quite passes the point where it gets vengeful. However, after some thinking, I realized that my initial second voice reference Azula from Avatar the Last Airbender... had a voice that was just too creepy for Retariusil. Thus, I think Cameron Diaz would be perfect.,
Tethys
VA Option: Sherri Stoner
Reference: Slappy Squirrel from Animaniacs
I am not kidding you, Zerv and I agreed if Slappy Squirrel from Animaniacs had a lower voice, then that'd be Tethys's voice.
I mean seriously listen to this:
It's got the necessary harshness, the tone of authority and the stoicalness that you need for Tethys. Granted the dialogue doesn't really make Slappy sound serious, but with the right dialogue and a lower tone, that would be Tethys.
Ebb Flow
VA options: Arryn Zech
Voice Reference: Blake Belladonna from RWBY
Ebb Flow is a fairly stoic character, with the occasional moments of rage and emotion. She would have a fairly matter of fact voice as well. This is fairly similar to another character I like, Blake Belladonna from RWBY.
And that's my list, what do you think of them?
Tethys talking about brain food. That's disturbing...
Nice, you guys would have one hell of an expensive cast...
