So Are We Done with My Stallion, Soarin? · 6:21pm Aug 21st, 2016

So yeah...

After nearly 24 hours, the new chapter of 'My Stallion, Soarin' has only gotten one comment and 148 views. You all know that I see that getting comments is a good way to see if people are enjoying a particular story, and for this one to only get one comment and such a low view count is making me think that this story is no longer interesting to you guys. My other chapters, within the same time frame, can easily get 1k views and more than its fair share of comments, so to see this one get so little shows me that my time would be better spent working on other stories.

If this trend continues, I might end up cancelling this story.

I don't know. Sometimes, you just have slow days. I had similar thoughts after my stories stopped getting the kind of attention I was used to, and ended up closing several of my stories just because I was also having a bad day.

You have to keep writing for it for it to pick up. That's just how it goes with multi-chapter fics.

I'd give it a few more days before making any decisions.

Personally speaking, I have a lot of everything happening at the same time, and I haven't been able to keep up with fan fiction

-First update in months

Dude, people are really busy right now, and they may not have had time to go through their feeds. Chill.

Like others have said, this is a busy time in the U.S. Most schools are starting and people may be getting in vacations before summer ends. That being said, some people just aren't commenters (I'd actually put myself in this group). I don't comment on stories all the time and just because I don't doesn't mean that I don't like the story. It also may be related to the M/M ship as it's a lot more niche. Looking at two of the M/M shipfics that updated recently for me, both of which are a lot more established than yours (one's part three of a trilogy and is at 97k while the other's at 277k), one has 850 views and 5 comments (updated yesterday) and the other has 1800 views and 21 comments, mostly due to author replies (updated august 6th). I wasn't around for the beginning of those, but M/M may be a bit more of a slow burn

Over the few days that it has been out, my story Dead Pony Storage has got only 51 likes, 12 comments and 281 views. This isn't a busy time for stories or anything else. Hell even my Twitch numbers are down from most of the summer.

As people have said, Americans are going back to school. People are coming home from vacation. Others like me who have summer-intensive jobs are on their last few solid work weeks. Canadians are getting back to school in a week or two as well.

Once people get into the habit of school, then they form other bits as well. Come home, do homework or whatever, get online, check stories and whatnot.

No reason to give it up.

4163314 Perhaps. I will give it more time, naturally.

I want to tell you something. Look at you stories, all of them. This your first story based with M/M Do you really think there are tons of people who read this kind of relationships? Your followers are used to M/F or things around that. So if you don't get that many views don't be surprised. I am sure there is almost none straight guys that follow you and read M/M. I know you said you will give it time and i am glad you didn't just end it. :raritywink:

Have a great day/night.

(Also if i offended someone i apologize, i just tried to explain things.)

Welcome to the End of Summer Vacation.

4163485 So do you think it would be better for me to blog say... every few days or so with a list of stories I updated?

While I am not gay myself, I really enjoy reading My Stallion, Soarin. And I would hate to see it cancelled.

Not really a fan of the M/M. So, eh. It does nothing for me. I'm sure its great but just not my cup of tea.

I have a lot of chapters to catch up on. Roughly 3.12 million words in the queue right now. I will be reading everything, but until the story I am finishing reading is done, I am just falling further behind.

I'd hate to see it cancelled as well. I read it and it was really nice.

Same here. So much to read, so little time. Eh, what can you do:twilightoops:

I sincerely hope that you don't cancel this story. M/M shipfics don't come around often, almost all of them either one-shots that are done too soon, or stories that haven't been updated in a year with only three or four previously released (in fact, the only good, fleshed-out, well-written M/M shipfics I've found are Sensations by VividSyntax and the Brushed Away trilogy by VClaw-both of which I highly recommend to anyone). Considering your talent as a writer, I have a strong feeling that as the story goes, it'll be set up as one of the few great M/M's on this site. It pains me to see how uncommon these kind of fics are in this fandom compared to F/F and M/F (not saying we shouldn't do them, just saying the proportions are uneven), and I'm sorry that this story isn't following the same pattern of success as your other stories. I myself haven't gotten used to the habit of commenting on every chapter I read on any story.

It's hard, when you're driven on by comments and you hardly get any. I know it's why I lack motivation to actaully work on my students.

See, I'm kinda wierd because I like to read a story all the way through in one go. So most of the time I don't start stories that aren't finished unless they're a must read at this very moment, of which there are only 2.

In regards to that, I'm interested in this story but I don't want to start because I hate waiting on and on for the next update. Especially since I don't know when it's going to come.

My favorite writer Calm Wind and his story Piercing the Heavens updates on a regular basis and he gives regular daily updates on how the next chapter is coming along. But I really have no idea when your stories are going to update and it's that unknown factor that generally leads me to not read a story until it's finished.

Even just for saying every month would be acceptable because it gives me a timeframe to look forward to. However I am interested in the story so I would like you to continue it.

My advice? Finish some of the stories you have. It's great that you have so much variety, but I've seen you with 6-10 unfinished stories going at a time. It's not only difficult to write that much for each story and have chapters ready on a regular basis, but people can get disappointed when there is little to no updates on the story they enjoy because you're focusing on a new one you just started.

I'm not saying your writing is bad, I'm just saying that you're working yourself raw and losing people's interest because of it. My advice is that you slow down and make a schedule for yourself, and finish a bunch of stories before you make anymore new ones.

Don't stop writing Abyss, just pace yourself and finish what you've started. I can hardly wait for the next chapter of My Stallion, Soarin.

Sincerely,
Astral

Please don't cancel the story. Only about 25% of the stories that I read and like make it to my Favorites tab, and I hit the like button on ever fewer, and this one is one of the 10-or-so that I wait for to update, and when I see an update, I get excited. The others that I fell that way with are all sequels, in the 100K+ words area, or are put in the featured box each time they update. Some are all three of those things. Regardless, two other stories that I consider my top favorites updated while I was away, and your story is the first one I read. I don't know what exactly it is about your story that I like so much, but I love it regardless.

My problem I had with the latest chapter was the part of

"She'll be sad to know she didn't even have a chance!" (Not word for word but something like it.)

...

That sounded low, like he was too good for her, like he wouldn't even give her a chance low.. It was an un-nessisary part in my opinion, but it's your story so.

I understand it was because he was with thunderlane, I just feel like what thunderlane said was a poor choice of words, then soarin agreed.

I'm not saying it's bad writing, it just made me a bit angry in a personal level.

I didn't say this to make you feel bad or stop the story, I'm just saying my problem was, and wheather you change it or not is again up to you, what I don't read again won't hurt me.

Still look forward to your following story's and updates.

4163586 I think that's a really good idea. Would certainly make browsing blog posts easier. :twilightblush:
