Holy fuck! 
I kid you not: I went from butterflies in my stomach dreading that my childhood obsession was about to get the 'Transformers' treatment, to laughing so hard that my mom had to elbow me as to not ruin it for the other watchers.
Honestly, for me? This was on par with the original. They nailed the tone and cast in this one, without the characters being gender-flipped carbon-copies of the originals.
Even the 'neon' ghosts actually really worked in context, and that was the change I expected to loathe. But in practice, once you see them move and fight the humans in real world enviroments? It actually made them look wrong and unnatural in a good way. Like these really are... well, unnatural and wrong creatures and energies intruding on the real world.
Subtle, but I liked it. There was one or two ghosts that even sent a shiver down my spine, and I'm no stranger to horror.
One busting fan to any others among my readers:
GO SEE THIS MOVIE! THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THOSE HORRIBLE TRAILERS WAS THAT THEY GAVE NOTHING OF THE AWESOME AWAY FOR ONCE!
Oh, and make sure to sit there until after the credits.
Well... at least someone liked it. Everyone I know has give it a rating from meh to not bad.

To be fair, I'm about the only one I personally know that loved #2 as much as #1, so it might be my inner Ghostbusters fanboy rising from torpor screeching from joy talking. I'll freely admit that much.

The cartoon was a big part of my childhood though.
I really, really liked the new Ghostbusters. It wasn't as tight as the orignal and tried to tell quite a different story, but it was side-splittingly funny and had some fantastic characters.

I have to say this review and these comments inspired me to see the movie later today. I probably would have never watched it otherwise.
I agree there, the movie was quite good, its quite like the old movies, they just successfully ported the humorous aspects of the 80s movies into that of our current society without creating a modified copy.
All right then. I will make sure to go see that.
I'll wait until i can watch it for free.
