BronyCon, a week and a half later · 3:58am Jul 21st, 2016

Hello friends and other friends! Guess who was playing Metal Gear Solid and suddenly remembered that he hadn't posted a blog about BronyCon yet? Me!

Anyway, yeah, I was at BronyCon. First one I've ever been to, and the first convention I've been to where I've actually attended all three days! I had loads of fun, and I also made sure to take a few pictures while I was there, including three terrible photos of myself. Let's go through 'em, yeah?

I left Boston on Friday morning and hopped on a tiny 'lil plane headed for Baltimore. I always love plane rides—it's hundreds of tons of metal and fire and flesh rocketing into the air and zooming through the sky. There's nothing more hardcore.

Not hardcore, though: getting patted down by TSA! In both Boston and Baltimore, I ended up getting stopped and searched by TSA because I ticked off the metal detector. Another important aspect of this trip: finding out I'm part-robot.

Anyway, I made it to Baltimore at about noon and headed right to the Convention Center. I got my badge...

Both names included!

...and headed in. The first people I met up with were Majin Syeekoh and HazeyHooves, who tried to sneak up on me in the Marketplace and failed horribly. Protip: if you're trying to sneak up on someone, don't look them directly in the eyes as you approach. :derpytongue2: For reference, Majin Syeekoh looks like a regular guy, and Haze was dressed like a Hawaiian cowboy. I don't have a picture—just trust me on that one.

We headed over to the Crossovers panel. I have to admit, I wasn't particularly interested going in... I don't write or read crossovers. That being said, it was a fine panel, and everyone on it seemed to know what they were talking about. Maybe one of these days I'll write that Haruhi Suzumiya/Equestria Girls crossover I've had in my ideas doc for two years now. :raritywink:

After that, I left Maj and Haze behind and went to go find Quills and Sofas, the writer's lounge. For years I had heard stories about Q&S, so I was excited to see what it was all about. I was even more excited when I walked in, eyes pointed at my phone, and suddenly heard behind me: "Dubs!!"

Oro on the right, me on the left

After almost a year of serving as his personal editor, I finally got to meet Oroboro, one of my best friends in the entire fandom. Not only that, but I got to meet Curtis, his cute cool brother. They're both total sweetie pies. When Oro and I saw each other, we immediately launched into a hug, laughing and yelping and generally annoying everyone in Quills and Sofas. We're the coolest.

Also he gave me cookies! Crushed cookies. Seriously, like a bag of completely crushed chocolate chip cookies. They were awesome.

I did a few other things that day, but most important was going to an Orioles game:

And while I was there, a building caught on fire!

SPORTS!

I guess I should mention now that really the only reason I was able to afford going to BronyCon was due to the generosity of Pascoite, author and editor extraordinaire. Pasco not only offered to let me stay at his house, but drove me to and from the convention center every day. Pascoite is an incredibly nice guy, and getting the chance to have a long conversation about fanfiction on the way home Friday night was one of the highlights of my weekend.

The Rock himself, along with another terrible picture of me

On Saturday, I went to a panel on writing scripts...

And I met some loser named Not_A_Hat...

terrible picture of me #3

But most importantly, I competed in Rock Poetry! For the uninitiated, Rock Poetry is a slam poetry/writing contest where all contestants are given half-an-hour to write as many poems as they can about rocks, then are invited onto a stage to perform them for the crowd. I—along with Pascoite, Titanium Dragon, and Burraku Pansa—competed, and I managed to walk away as the 2nd Place winner! Here's a rough draft of the poem I won with:

I apologize for my bad handwriting

I still think Pascoite should have won. Even if he had to stop to explain his geology puns to the crowd.

I spent the rest of the day hanging out with authors much better than me, including going to a party hosted by Jedi Ed and attending a big author's dinner at a local pub. It was honestly surreal meeting all these people that I've only known by (user)name for the past five years.

Here are some other various images:

Not_A_Hat texting me when I was sitting right behind him

Legitimately the best drawing I've ever made, along with a sink by Hat. Can you tell who it's supposed to be?

An actually good drawing by Haze, which I still need to put on Derpibooru

I headed home Sunday afternoon. I left my friends with hugs and kisses.

In all, here's my swag:

From left to right:
Rocks Badge, won at Rock Poetry (on Celestia's wing)
Quills and Sofas pin (also on wing)
Celestia in battle armor poster, won at poetry
Picture of Rainbow Dash as a shark, given as a gift by CouchCrusader
Drawing of Twilight saying "You're wrong," given by an artist in the Marketplace
Luna in battle armor, won at poetry
Anthro Maud poster, won at poetry (it reads MAUD GENESIS)

It was an amazing convention. I would recommend it to any brony. If you have the time and money, consider going next year. It's sure to be good.

Also, crammed at the bottom of the blog: I'm an Equestria Daily prereader now! Send me hate mail! :yay:

This is the second BronyCon I've been to, and I found it more entertaining than last year's, so you picked a good one to end up being your first.
Of the panels I personally attended, the four most entertaining were:
Analyzing MLP Live, for the constant roasting of JoshScorcher that was done by Silver Quill and ILoveKimPossibleAlot.
Production is Magic, for all of M.A. Larson's comments.
After the Fact Live: Putting Your Hoof Down, since I actually got to interact with Silver Quill several times throughout the panel.
The Elements of Harmony, for seeing all 4 of the mane voice actresses at once.

I feel so left out:fluttercry:! My friends had invited me to follow them, but ugh! I was such a stupid brony for not accepting it:facehoof:! They showed me pics and asked me if I wanted their stuff because they bought two of each, but I didn't want to take advantage of their kindness. So, I promised them, that I'll go on the next one.:scootangel:

Equestria Daily prereader now!

Whoa, congrats!

It sounds like you and everyone else had a great time at BronyCon. I wish I could've gone just to meet everybody in person There's just too much going on over here, alas…

4104101 I didn't even go even though my friends had invited me.
