New Non-Pony Story: "Steven Universe Meets Sun Tzu" · 2:40pm Jun 11th, 2016
Worried by the impending conflict with Homeworld, Steven asks Rose's room to let him meet the greatest general who ever lived.
As always, it is able to oblige.
I always try to show people things they couldn't see anywhere else, and in that spirit, my foray into non-Pony fan-writing is a dramedy in which a cartoon boy and a historical figure talk about military strategy. We'll see what the Beach City Bugle readers make of that one.
But the experience of publishing even this small story makes me realize how good we Pony writers have it. Archive of Our Own is still buggy, and fanfiction.net is primitive and confusingly designed. A lot of features we take for granted here simply don't exist anywhere else. We really can't complain.
Regardless, it was fun to write, and even the normally difficult parts of the process have recently grown easier. These are exciting times indeed. In that spirit, I intend to take at least one more crack at Pony fiction before any attempt to graduate to original work. But more on that later.
Oh, and special thanks to Forderz for editing.
Cheers,
HV
I'm very excited for the day knighty expands fimfiction to include other types of fictions. I'm not sure if it'll be genreal fanfiction like fanfiction.net or a hosting service for free web serials like Worm, or both, but either way it'll be good.
Ok, that was a great little story. Lots of relevant messages in little space.
I'll read this in a little. Show it to Bradel he fell in love with this show recently
Well, that was fun. :) Should I take it to mean that you don't have an AO3 then? I could give you kudos if you do...

Definitely. It's silly just how many people were worried by that when the announcement was made. I, um, totally was not one of those people.

He follows me, so I'm surprised he hasn't commented; he must have missed this post in passing. Perhaps I'll poke him if he misses it when it runs on the Bugle on Tuesday. Yep, the prereader liked it.

I do, but it kept messing up the story's formatting for some reason. I'll try them again after a few more patches, maybe. Thx for reading.
My recent binge on Zootopia shipping trash has reminded me to look forward with gentle longing to the day when FimFiction launches the multi-fandom version.
I'll have to save this for later, after I catch up on SU.

It will be the promised time.
Spacebattles is semi-good, but small.
AO3 is confusingly designed.
Fanfiction.net makes the baby Jesus cry.
Wattpad is...we don't talk about Wattpad.
Seriously, fimfiction is the best fiction site I have ever encountered, with the only flaw being...well...if it's not pony, it's not here :-(
Fanfiction.net is a living graveyard.
This was fun to read through, and I was particularly impressed with how Sun's accent came across without altering the spelling of words.

Guess I should have scouted it out first. Maybe I'll give AO3 another shot when I have time.
EDIT: And it works!
And you can bet I'm glad to hear I didn't lay the accent on too thick. In a way, I was just as concerned about that as anything else, since you never know what might make people mad these days.
Looks cool at a glance. I'll have to bookmark it for it I ever get into the show.
