    an update

Hi all. I hope everyone is doing well. I've been taking an extended break from FimFiction lately. Had some undesirable interactions with some users. That coupled with some of my creative frustrations just makes logging on... kind of unpleasant? If I do log on, it's usually to try and catch up with the fics I'm reading and then I quickly log off. I'm just feeling drained with the MLP fanfic

It was my birthday yesterday! I'd meant to post the day of, but honestly, I was so tired and busy I just didn't have much time or energy to sit at my computer. Wanna hear a funny story or two, plus see the new playlist I made for Sassaflash? Get it after the jump!

    ponies fix everything

New chapter for What They Hope to Find is out! I talk about what's next after the jump, but before that, a quick anecdote:

Last night, my family was having trouble finding something to watch together. My nine-year-old son didn't have any ideas, but he pretty much shot down every suggestion we had. Eventually, out of frustration and half-serious, I say, "Let's just watch ponies."

    Jinglemas! And Rarijack!

I'm participating in this year's Jinglemas! It's a cute fic exchange that happens every year. I requested a rare pair ship, three guesses which. :twilightsheepish: Today is the last day to join, so if you want in on it, be sure to read over the rules and PM Shakespearicles!

is kind of the range of thoughts I'm having atm. roller coaster day. I think I just gotta channel some inner-Japanese spunk and remember to:

all over the place chatter below (including personal stuff, game talk, and a small steaming pile of political poo)

Today was therapist day. She asked me if I thought our sessions has resulted in any progress. I was feeling snippy, so I said, "I dunno. You're the therapist. You tell me." She laughed, because she knows I'm barely bark and no bite. Grudgingly I admitted I thought I made some progress. But I don't want to admit progress, kinda. Because, y'know. That means I'll have to eventually take off the water wings and wade into the deep end of the pool.

I'm a typical girl. Most of my anger is turned inward.

Rawr, rawr, rawr, I fucking hate being a doormat!

Great then idiot, stop being a doormat.

But that requires sticking up for myself, and I just wanna... not... be... I mean, I don't... *whine*

What was that, shithead?

Sorry I wasted your time inner critic. Actually, there IS no problem. You see, they aren't actually impeding my life because I'm so hastily accommodating them anyway. See? We're all friends! That foot on my neck is actually taking care of this horrible crick I had, and--

Holy hell, this is why I stick to lambasting your writing. It's so much easier to make you feel bad about something you aren't deluding yourself about.

I hate having a family that treats me like the runt of the litter. Who puts me in shitty positions where they can emotionally blackmail me into being cool with doing what they want. "Oh gee, hey guys, is it okay for me to start my life now? Oh? No? Okay... Naw that's cool. I wasn't gonna do anything anyway."

Therapist says stick up for myself. Not now, exactly. "Practice voicing your dissent," she says. "Let it be known you aren't cool with the status quo anymore." God, the idea is giving me a stress headache alone!

Anyway...

Rambling. Let's ramble. Blogs can be good for rambling. I can't be coherent all the time.

SmallCaliber wanted to sleep with me instead of his abuela tonight, so he dozed off with his head on my lap while we watched Netflix's Lego Friends: The Power of Friendship. I was kind of determined to hate the thing, but now I'm sort of... Okay with it? The animation is actually pretty decent, the writing isn't the worst I've seen, and the songs are tolerable (as opposed to Lolirock's which is just abysmal... And I actually really like Lolirock as a "magical girl" cartoon.) But geez... Power of Friendship? Come on, gaiz. You make me feel scuzzy when you make blatant demographic grabs like this.

GBA charger that I acquired earlier today was immediately put to good use. Charged our GBA, and plugged in Pokemon Green Leaf. I originally just bought the charger for hubby because he recently bought a new game for it, and I honestly never understood the appeal of gameboy advanced SPs, buuuut... I did really enjoy Green Leaf when I started playing it on our Retron 5, so while I had to readjust to the tiny screen, I was feeling like a happy ten year old playing that thing again. Green Leaf is best Pokemon game. It takes everything from the original games and makes it cooler. I like the old games. I keep trying to finish Pokemon Y and I keep fucking getting lost. Am I just stupid? How do you get lost in a Pokemon game? Goddamn new agey bullshit... *grumbles like old person* (I had to stop playing Green Leaf prematurely though because of SmallCaliber joining me in the bed. Kind of leaning towards getting a Bulbasaur, but I've always been partial to Squirtle... I USED to love starting with Charizard, but now my inner hipster just turns her nose up at the idea of going with the commonplace dragon. P'SHAW, we can have a more fantastical creature than that in the world of Pokemon, don't make me fucking laugh you unimaginative twat!)

Also bought Shadowrun for the Sega Genesis. I had no idea there WAS a Shadowrun for the Sega Genesis. But my mouth dropped upon seeing that thing in the glass case at the mall. Looked up graphics. It's pretty much the same story and concept as the SNES version, but with radically different graphics and combat system. Had to get it. Also bought Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4 for the PS1 because I'm a masochist who likes the idea of running an empire, even though she sucks at tactical anything. I was kind of hoping to get lucky and see a copy of Sigma Star Saga for the GBA, but nada. Saw Slowbeef do a let's play of it, and I was really intrigued by it. I think I missed out on GBA games really bad. Lots of good stuff on that handheld. I didn't get into that gaming arena till the DS.

Oh, and I beat Assassin's Creed 4 this weekend. It only took me close to 2 years to finish the main campaign. No biggie.

I installed Watchdogs, but I don't know if I want that to be my "next" PS4 game. I have DLC on Fallout 4 and Dragon Age to finish. Also... Bloodborne. I wish I could play Bloodborne. And Overwatch. I wish I had money for Overwatch. (And a decent internet connection.)

I'm supposed to be writing. God help me you guys. (I have a habit of bringing up God despite not being entirely sure of his existence. I get it from my mom. When my family fled from Panama to here, her sassy latina personality identified with the sassy African American women she met, and they were Baptists, so she says stuff like "lawdy lawdy" even though she's technically a Buddhist... I say technically because she barely practices even that much anymore. Did I mention my oldest brother is a Catholic-turned-Christian? My family is a spiritual mess.)

Er. Yeah. So I'm supposed to be writing. But my shoulders hurt something fierce (tension from thinking about sticking up for myself lingering...) I have bread pudding left over from lunch today that's calling my name, and I still kind of want to play Pokemon. Also, the part I'm writing atm is a scene with Applejack from What They Expect to Give, and dear sweet Jesus, I wish I hadn't committed to the characterization angle I'm going with her in that story. It cuts close to home. "I'm the only thing keeping my family from falling apart, and oh look we have bills to pay, and damn if it doesn't feel like I'm keeping idiots at bay on one side and my own fist from punching my face on the other."

Dad brought me rum from Panama. Panamanian rum. I shouldn't drink. Or, if I must, I should at least do the low calorie option and do vodka. Is Ojsvedka still low calorie?

I shouldn't drink.

Bernie Sanders came to my area today. I could have heard him speak. Then I decided I didn't fucking care. Hillary was here last week and I was also indifferent. This election is dumb. Bernie probably should quit, because he has no chance of winning and he's just dividing the party at this point, but voting for Hillary kind of makes my skin crawl, so should I just vote for Bernie just to allow myself the chance to get one of those lame ass bumper stickers that say, "Hey, don't blame me! I voted for [insert supposedly superior candidate here]."

If Donald Trump wins I'm...

Wait. No.

I'm not going anywhere because that would be asserting myself, and I just don't do that.

I'm going to eat my feelings some bread pudding now.

Come to Canada. We have bets hedged.

3988501

I hear you guys have beautiful country sides. And I always kind of liked the idea of French? :applejackconfused:

3988508 In that case, come to the eastern side. French is basically worthless on the west side.

Also, we have poutine.

The GBA was a fine handheld...in SP form at least. The original like rectangular brick had poor back lighting and I heard they later fixed that with newer versions before the SP...but...I never saw it. The SP was superior in my mind. Not only did it have better lighting but it was now smaller and could better fit in my pocket compared to the OG GBA and the PSP which basically consumed one whole pocket to themselves...and don't even get me started on the PSVIta. Anyways, I'm also a sucker for it since it flips...I came into the age of everything with Flip phones and since Flip phones were becoming all the rage (especially in Japan, Nintendo's domestic home) it would make sense to make the SP a flip open and basically every handheld afterwards followed in it's footsteps (outside of the 2DS.)

I never played Pokemon outside of the original on that big grey brick, I was more into Yu-Gi-Oh before it go...mmm...complicated is probably the good word for it. Anyways, the GBA had other great games on it like Metriod Fusion, the 3 GBA Castlevania games, and of course the Sonic Advance series. All of which I would recommend in a heartbeat.

Shadowrun on SEGA Genesis? I did not know that existed...then again the last game I bought for my old SEGA Genesis was Castlevania: Bloodlines and was that ages ago. Every now and again I return to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles but that's about it. It's being unused like all the rest of my poor consoles.

Assassin's Creed 4 is the WORST Assassin's Creed game to date. ...it is the best Pirate Adventure game I have ever played though. I had way more fun game just sailing the high seas and having pirate-y adventures on my own than going through the main story and doing Assassin stuff. Which...yeah...makes it the worst Assassin's Creed game by default based on that alone. I still love the game regardless and in all seriousness it is my second fav Assassin's Creed game after 2.

If you enjoyed 4 and still have a PS3 or Xbox 360 lying around I'd recommend picking up Assassin's Creed Rogue which has the same pirate ship sort of combat as 4 but instead of being an Assassin killing targets you play as a Templar preventing Assassinations..it's a neat little twist on the series and worth a looksie if you want more pirate themed fun. Other than that game I can't recommend Unity as that was complete garbage and Syndicate was just...meh at best. The last one to come out was Chronicles and that I can't even remember whatsoever aside from it being a 2D game....so yeah...check out Rogue if you can.

I didn't like Watch_Dogs...it's not a...ehhh...mmm...it's hard for me to describe...it's not a good game by any stretch of the imagination...and the only reason why I'm not going to rail on it is because I didn't buy it at full price. I bought it new for 20 bucks and for 20 bucks...ehhh...it's at least a game that I didn't feel like I wasted my money on. There, that's my quote for the game and Ubisoft can put that on the cover for it's 4K HD Remaster re-release. "It's at least a game I didn't feel like I wasted my money on!"

I didn't buy Fallout 4 and I refuse to buy it because I'm not spending 60 bucks on a game and then god knows how much for the DLC when by the end of year or something the Complete Edition or Ultimate Edition is coming out which will give me EVERYTHING for 60 bucks and have (Hopefully) all the bugs and kinks worked out. So while my college colleague continues and whine and complain about the Framerate and glitches and whatever I'm just sitting here thinking "Well...at least when I play it in a year I won't be in complete misery like he is!" Those are patient like me come out ahead I guess.

I beat Bloodborne a few weeks ago as apart of my Souls-A-Thon. I beat Demon's Souls, then I went on to Dark Souls, then I went onto Bloodborne, and I recently just beat Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin (I'm not playing Dark Souls 3 though...I'm going to wait for the Complete Edition of it like what they did for Dark Souls for the same reasons why I'm not buying Fallout 4 yet.) All of them are completely hard and frustrating games...Demon's Souls in particular is a continuous punch to my balls, dick, kidneys, and face...but I still came out on top. Dark Souls 1 is my personal favorite of the series as it was challenging yet not...complete bullshit like Demon's Souls. Bloodborne is a close second for me as that was tons of fun and Dark Sousl 2 is...well...not bad just not as good as 1 or Bloodborne...better than Demon's Souls though...to hell with that game.

Also recently beat the new Doom reboot...which was exhausting in ways that it would take me a long time to detail. It wasn't bad nor good in my opinion...just in the middle of ok. I also beat Homefront the Revolution and that game is garbage...don't go near it. What else...oh Quantum Break I guess...the XONE exclusive that is complete mediocrity...not bad nor even ok...in the middle which I would call underwhelming...definitely not a system seller...and neither is Uncharted 4...I don't like that game at all...skip that as well. Anything else...uhhh...Rachet and Clank I guess...which was unremarkable and I think that about covers my gaming kick for May...and damn what a month...October eat your heart out...

Right now I'm patiently awaiting the release of MIrror's Edge Catalyst next week and then later this month No Man's Sky....and then...well...my freetime is forever consumed. It least it will give my PS4 something to do since I haven't touched it since I beat Bloodborne and if I don't play No Man's Sky it stay that way for a very long time...it will forever be unloved.

Are you implying God Emperor Trump, builder of walls, protector of mankind, shelter of the white man's burden, isn't the only choice?

I played a lot of Romance of the Kingdoms when I was younger. Empire building games are kind of a passion of mine. Total Wat especially. I sank about a thousand hours into Medieval Total War in middle school. My purpley Byzantine empire stretched over all the map. Only the hated Saracens kept me from Africa. I never did manage to hold on to Egypt for long...

My other favorite campaigns of all time we're both in Rome 2. The first as the Baktrians, the last stop for Alexander the Okay, conquering everything with my awesomely named legions. Rich as Croseus and endless. The other was as Axum, precursor to Ethiopia. Working my way up to the Mediteranean as an upstart desert African Kingdom was loads of fun. Well. It was until I got my ass kicked by literally all of my neighbors.

I totally spent 75% of senior year in high school playing Pokemon.

And Civilization 2. Still one of the greatest games of all time. I bought Civ 5 and Beyond Earth and liked them. Especially because Civ 5 has SO MANY custom Civ mods. Wanna be a magical girl civilization? Princess Twilight Sparkle? Natalya Polonskya, the greatest and most superior of Russian waifus? Hell you could even be the Mormons. Endless hilarity.

XCOM has been my go to game for awhile now, both new reboots. I've been meaning to do a blog that relates to my experience with the Long War.

Growing up, everything was sorta my fault. I didn't have my sister's talent for sneakiness or her charm. I the eldest was a large lumbering target.

I always struggled to be honest with therapists. My defense mechanism was to impress and word-weave and I didn't know how to turn it off.

3988539

Poutine looks good... And also like something that would kill me.

3988599

The SP was superior in my mind. Not only did it have better lighting but it was now smaller and could better fit in my pocket compared to the OG GBA and the PSP which basically consumed one whole pocket to themselves...and don't even get me started on the PSVIta.

I always did like how compact the SP was, but holy hell, that thing is kind of uncomfortable to hold. This is coming from someone who has petite hands like mine. I can only imagine how much tougher it must be for guys and their man-hands. Kids have it easy. The GBA just felt cumbersome, and the PSP moreso. Though, I've heard the PSVita became a pretty decent handheld once Sony realized that it was best as a companion device WITH the PS4 instead of its own separate thing. Too bad they're already gearing up to stop supporting it. (At least, that's what I last heard when I was considering getting a used one on the cheap.)

I came into the age of everything with Flip phones

My first cellphone was a dinky little flip with no color. I remember playing Snake on that thing for hours. :twistnerd:

I never played Pokemon outside of the original on that big grey brick, I was more into Yu-Gi-Oh before it go...mmm...complicated is probably the good word for it. Anyways, the GBA had other great games on it like Metriod Fusion, the 3 GBA Castlevania games, and of course the Sonic Advance series. All of which I would recommend in a heartbeat.

Honestly... The original Pokemon games are still my favorites. I've played Diamond and Y, and just... I dunno. I don't care for most of the new pokemon, and the extra features and mini-games just felt bothersome to me. Like in Y, you can do "special training" with your pokemon, but the mini-games were boring and it was more like a chore. Technically it's optional, but because everyone who gets online does it, I was always going to get roflstomped because I didn't spend three hours maxing out my team's special stats via some watered down version of a shooter. :ajbemused:

Shadowrun on SEGA Genesis? I did not know that existed...then again the last game I bought for my old SEGA Genesis was Castlevania: Bloodlines and was that ages ago. Every now and again I return to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles but that's about it. It's being unused like all the rest of my poor consoles.

Yeah, the Genesis is my most neglected of my old consoles. I have a few good games for it, but if I had to choose between the good games on that or the Dreamcast, I'd always pick the latter. Crazy Taxi, baby!

Assassin's Creed 4 is the WORST Assassin's Creed game to date. ...it is the best Pirate Adventure game I have ever played though. I had way more fun game just sailing the high seas and having pirate-y adventures on my own than going through the main story and doing Assassin stuff.

Yeeeeah... That's why I think it took me 2 years to beat the main campaign. :twilightsheepish: I LOVED the pirate stuff. But the moment the game tried to be like, "Oh hey! This is an Assassin's Creed game! Go eavesdrop/assassinate these people! BUT STAY OUT OF COMBAT!" Sometimes the stealth stuff was okay, but other times I just got impatient. It didn't feel imaginative. To this day, Metal Gear Solid for the ps1 remains my fave stealth game. I suppose Tomb Raider (the new one) gets an honorable mention, as it's not really a pure stealth game. It was kind of cool being this lone woman killing a bunch of violent fanatics in various ways.

and the only reason why I'm not going to rail on it is because I didn't buy it at full price.

I bought Watchdogs on sale with some DLC for under 20 bucks. Mostly I just like the idea of the open world stuff. Not interested in the main story at all. I'll probably fart around with it, then move on to something else.

Eheh...I stood outside of Gamestop the night it came out to pick up my preorder. I bought the game AND the season pass. :twilightsheepish: BUT! I haven't encountered any horrible bugs on the PS4 so far. I like getting the DLC as it comes out for once. Usually I do what you're saying here: wait till the ultimate edition comes out with everything bundled in it for a better price. I'm not regretting my choice at all.

I LOVE Demon's Souls. :rainbowkiss: I kind of liked it better than Dark Souls, but I couldn't tell you why. I forget the reasons. I do remember saying that to my hubby. I think I liked the way the levels were designed? Like, in Dark Souls everything is connected--so if you want to go to Z, you have to trek through X and Y first. I mean... At least at first? Now as I'm typing this my brain is going, "Wait, didn't they have fast travel after you reached a bonfire?" It's been a few years... Can't recall. I played Bloodborne a LITTLE bit. I liked how the combat is faster paced than Dark Souls, and I like the Victorian setting too. I know next to nothing about Dark Souls 3.

the XONE exclusive that is complete mediocrity

I kinda SORTA want an Xbone, but not super super bad. Without a subscription to go with it, it wouldn't be as enjoyable, but I never did like the microsoft service (despite its stability in comparison to sony).

and neither is Uncharted 4...I don't like that game at all...skip that as well

I still have yet to play and beat Uncharted 3. I own it, I just haven't...touched it. I beat 1 + 2, though. Great games. I'll probably still check out 4, but it won't be any time soon.

Anything else...uhhh...Rachet and Clank I guess

Geez, it's such a shame that Spyro and Jak + Daxter got beat out by these two in the platforming mascots arena. They're even getting their own movie! I never played any of their games, and I don't really intend to.

Right now I'm patiently awaiting the release of MIrror's Edge Catalyst next week

*Sigh* I still need to beat the first game. The gaming world moves much too quick for me. :facehoof:

and then later this month No Man's Sky

I'll have to look up what the hell this is. I saw Dodger (another one of those pro-gamer personalities that used to be on Polaris) talking about it on YouTube. Seriously, keeping up on the newest stuff is like a full time job in of itself.

Are you implying God Emperor Trump, builder of walls, protector of mankind, shelter of the white man's burden, isn't the only choice?

I'm saying our list of American presidents is going to get a little more colorful:

s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/92/81/c0/9281c0ca6f9fa202d6ac328eab183ad2.jpg

I played a lot of Romance of the Kingdoms when I was younger. Empire building games are kind of a passion of mine. Total Wat especially.

RotK is something I only recently discovered. When I saw the screenshots of little sprites farming and small soldier sprites outside of walls, my resolve broke.

I don't know how to Total War. :applejackconfused: I think I have Total War Rome? But when I tried to play it... I didn't know what was going on. I couldn't seem to locate a tutorial thingie in-game. It looks cool, though? Wish I knew what the hell was going on.... I can't even make my army advance, lol.

I totally spent 75% of senior year in high school playing Pokemon.

I was crazy about it as a kid, like most others in my elementary school. Growing up, the charm got lost on me, at least for the older games. I mean, they aren't completely unenjoyable, but I feel like GameFreak (or whoever designs the damn games) has never quite gotten how to retain the addictive original formula of Rock, Paper, Scissors battle and still make innovations. The games just lack synergy to me. I constantly feel like they're trying to lure me away from the main storyline with dull mini-games that are meant to "give me an edge". Or they keep baiting me with "that super cool rare pokemon" that I have to backtrack and grind forever to get. I liked making teams tho. I never did it with some aim of being the best pokemon opponent. I liked trolling my friends by putting together crazy combinations they'd never expect. "Oh, are you going to play your fighting team? Here, have lots of status effects. I guess your Machop can't do anything while he's asleep, huh? Oh good idea switching to Hitmonchan! Oops, he's poisoned and confused." It almost didn't matter if I won so long as I made my friends freak out just a little. :trollestia:

I bought Civ 5 and Beyond Earth and liked them. Especially because Civ 5 has SO MANY custom Civ mods. Wanna be a magical girl civilization? Princess Twilight Sparkle? Natalya Polonskya, the greatest and most superior of Russian waifus? Hell you could even be the Mormons. Endless hilarity.

Whaaaat? I didn't know such mods existed! I remember back when I was unemployed in Georgia I sank HOURS into Civ 5. That game is crack. Now I must reinstall it and explore these mods you speak of.

XCOM has been my go to game for awhile now, both new reboots. I've been meaning to do a blog that relates to my experience with the Long War.

Hubby loves XCOM, but the way he curses about it, I've always figured the only thing I'd ever do is rage and break my computer. Which is something I've feared he'd do a number of times. (He's a masochist and always tries to play Iron Man, or whatever mode it's called.)
