State of the Writer: May 2024!

    Didn't write nothing! clapping emoji!

My surgery was on the 22nd, and it went well, I'm still in recovery for technically the next week and a half or so, but as of this week I'm already feeling back to normal. Which I have to keep reminding myself I am not, lest I overdo something and hurt myself. <_< I am at least following the discharge instructions, so no worries about that.

    PP vs. What I've Become

Knight Breeze's What I've Become might not be a name you've heard before, but given its stats, especially the over 60,000 views, I feel safe calling it a fandom classic. :) Major spoilers ahead for a ten-year-old story!

Fic recs, May 20th: Project Get! #17!

Hey! :D Welcome back to Project Get!, where I sort my RIL by views and grab the last 10 on the list that aren't sequels, unfinished, or by the same author twice! I've been trying to do this a lot more frequently, but 'frequent' has not exactly described these blogs out of me, has it? D: I dunno if that could change in the near future. I've got outpatient surgery on Wednesday this week, so I'm

State of the Writer/Reviewer, April 2016 · 3:41pm Apr 30th, 2016

As I write this, I'm waiting for the new episode to air. I'm sure, once it does, no one will care about reading a brand-new TwiLuna story with an AU tag and a slightly creepy cover image. But I hope people find it in time; it's been a while since I wrote some serious shipping, and I don't think I've really tried TwiLuna before. Certainly, the period of time between Luna Eclipsed and Magical Mystery Cure killed my enjoyment of it, and surely Twilight becoming a princess would kill a story where she's intimidated by Luna's godliness. Turns out, it doesn't; it just depends on how you look at it. :)

So yeah, the sharp-eyed among you may notice that I published five stories this month. Five. And I never once made an announcement that I would. :) I'm proud of myself for both these facts. After the disaster of my "write X words a day" experiment in March, this just... kinda happened. And it worked. Granted, it helps that, out of the five stories, only one was written this month (OCTASCRATCH was written last month, and the other three were old writeoff entries), but When the Moth Loved the Flame actually took three weeks of work to get into shape. Major thanks to my feedback-providers, Titanium Dragon, hoziron, Bad Horse and Pascoite. :D

And of course, the best part is that this is proof I can actually use the fanfic document to publish stuff. :V I mean, none of these were The Color and the Silence, but I'm severely intimidated by how much needs to go into that piece. :B Granted, A Mere Tiff, which became When the Moth Loved the Flame, required a large amount of work as well. So maybe the next go-around, I can figure it out.

So, let's talk about the stories really quick. OCTASCRATCH DOWN BEST FOR ROMANCE YES has done considerably better than I ever thought it would. :) It really did just start as me trolling obabscribbler; becoming a serious-pants story happened in the middle, and the result required a lot of work to connect the two halves. I've got plans for a sequel, but recent work on the outline has revealed to me that it's going to be a much longer story than I had initially prepared for. (It's also going to be properly written, with only Vinyl speaking in emoticons. :V)

Starlight's Second Friendship Lesson is my usual kind of episode mockery shitfic. :V It's also the one story that was written this month. I don't actually have anything to say about it. :B

Good Thing She's So Disorganized is the first of the writeoff entries I cleaned up out of the fanfic doc. I'm honestly surprised it was so easy to get to 1k words; since a lot of these are from minific contests, that's always an issue (and also why I tended to save the "full" version if a story came in over the word limit). It's tagged random, but not something I would consider a shitfic; it comes by its randomness honestly, thanks to the presence of Discord.

Trixie Invents Yoga Pants could have been the crackiest of crackfics, but horizon always saw something in it. I never understood why. :V It's still pretty high on the randomness scale, and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. Fun trivia, I submitted it to the World-Builders' Alliance, much to their dismay. It's not like they're overrun with stories about barasinghas or anything, right? V:

And of course, I've already talked about When the Moth Loved the Flame, the single extra-serious fic out of a slate of goofy shit. :)

Moving ahead, I've started writing the very first MLP/Sentinels of the Multiverse crossover, ever. :D I'm trying to write it so that both fandoms will be able to read it; it will be interesting to see how it does over on the SOTM boards.

Meanwhile, I've been agonizing over both Epic Unicorn History and The Elements of Awesomery. The latter was recently reviewed by PaulAsaran, and the former -- hope I'm not spoiling anything -- has been accepted by the Royal Guard. :D There's not much else I can say about either of them that hasn't already been said. :B I'm also angsting over my secret Fallout: Equestria project because of course I am, I'm listening to Project Horizons.

Speaking of, oh boy. I'm currently on chapter 43 out of 49 (in book three), and I'm pleased to say, I'm still enjoying the story. I'm also learning that it's far easier to read a 43 hour audiobook than it is a 750-page novel. :B Sorry, Ether Echoes, I'm just not used to reading books anymore. But things will progress in time. Of course, I'm also editing a novel, possibly editing a second novel, and oh yeah, someone I was editing for a year ago showed back up with another frickin' huge chapter of their story, so my plate is full is what I'm saying. Also, I'm working my way through the half a Fallout: Equestria of ocalhoun's Big 250k Contest. It's reminding me why I swore off contests a while back, but at the same time, it's kinda fun. :B So that's something to look forward to.

I thiiink that's everything I wanted to say, and the episode's actually on now, so bye. :B

Writing? Fiction? How... Pedestrian, Past Progressive.
