April 2016 Update · 12:00am Apr 16th, 2016
Hi everyone,
I’m still here, somehow. Anyway, it’s come to my attention that I have not published anything on this account since January of last year, when I released “Chill” for the More Most Dangerous Game. This comes as somewhat of a surprise to me, but I guess it really shouldn’t. I’ve been extraordinarily busy as of late, which is why you haven’t heard from me in a while.
However, if you check my userpage, you’ll notice that the box in the top right, usually full of question marks, now contains titles for three separate stories that I’ll hopefully be putting out over the course of the year. There are a few more ideas that I have that aren’t up there, but they’re both seasonal, so I figure those can wait.
Check below the break for discussion on these three story ideas.
Havoc Mare is a story idea I’ve had since 2014. The title only just came to me a few days ago, and I haven’t worked too much on it, but it should be blast. The main premise is Twilight ends up losing a magical battle against… something. But she doesn’t die, or get captured. In fact, she has no idea what happens, because when she wakes up, she is very obviously not in Equestria as she knows it. She doesn’t know where she is, or even remember how she got to wherever she is. All she knows is that she needs to find her friends as soon as possible. Tags will probably be T, Adventure, Dark, and maybe something else.
I’m not entirely sure how long this will be, but I imagine it will have more than a few chapters. Twenty, maybe? I don’t know. It’ll be around standard book length, I think. I don’t know when this will come out, but my plan is to write it in its entirety before doing a staggered release. I’ll have more information when I start getting far into the story.
“Wrong Book Roseluck” will likely be a oneshot. This will be an expansion of a minific written for a Writeoff competition. Several people expressed interest in seeing it expanded (though this was almost exactly two years ago now), and I recently stumbled upon some notes for it again. I can’t imagine it’ll be more than 10k, but who knows? The premise is kind of explained by the title. Roseluck buys what she thinks is a gardening book, but is actually a magical book that makes her plants come to life and wreak havoc over Ponyville. It’s up to her and Spike to stop them. It’ll be Slice of Life for sure, but I don’t yet know if I want to pursue a comedic direction or not. Rating will likely be E, but could bump up to T.
Again, it’ll be a oneshot. I could maybe make it novella length, but I’m not sure I can stretch the story out that far without it seeming forced. Like Havoc Mare, I’ll have more information when I start writing the story.
And now we come to the last title, Persist:Resist. This comes from a song showed to me by a close friend on Skype by a band called Deitiphobia. While there are better songs on the album, this one is very intriguing and fascinating to me, not just in terms of musical complexity, but because the title is pretty much the entirety of the lyrical content. This is the only idea so far that I don’t really have fleshed out beyond a very, very rudimentary concept that I won’t share for fear of spoiling the whole story.
The one thing this story has going for it is something I’m excited for: there will be a coded message in every single chapter. Some may be obvious, some may not. Either way, I’ve wanted to implement secrets into a story for a while, and Havoc Mare may actually have similar things occur, though that story will actually be more of a mystery through the protagonist than this story, so probably not. Either way, I can’t wait to write it.
I think that covers everything I wanted to talk about. I’m not dead yet, no matter how much the universe keeps trying to eat my spare time, and I’m actually getting back into the writing game finally.
I really appreciate you guys sticking with me all this time. I realize that I’ve been terrible at publishing things, which is why, as you may have noticed, I didn’t set any strict deadlines. Some of these stories might not materialize, but ideally that won’t happen, even if they’re not all published this year.
Thanks again!
