So recently I tried to get 'The Filly and The Boy' into The Good HiE group, but unfortunately I did not passed as the story was claimed to be "plain, predictable, and unoriginal".
So, am I disappointed that I didn't make it? Nope. I mean, sure it would be nice to have one of my stories in this 'prestigious' group, but honestly, if the story was turned down over how it was intended to be, then no, I'm not disappointed. I never meant this story to be anything other than a sweet, light-hearted story.
Now why am I telling you this? Because I want you to be proud of your stories. They are your stories, you made them, they are the reflection of your hearts and minds, every story can be potentially great, just like every good story could have been botched beyond recognition. The difference between a good and a bad story is different for each and every one, and even if only one person understand this from what I said, I consider my work here fulfilled
EDIT: The sequel to this story is at 3500+ words and still going strong

3845760 It doesn't. That group to me is just a bunch of pretentious idiots who think they have and are the standard for all the HIE fictions on this site. You know what? You story might have been all those things but I liked it.
3845786 It's fine. I don't mind having a group that claims to have only good stories, but I also won't be devastated if my story does not get approved, and I definitely won't change it to fit into their standarts of good

While I haven't read that story yet, I see this kind of blog post every so often and I can never figure it out for the life of me. There's some good stuff in GHIE, no doubt. Some of my favourite people here post there. There's such an amazing amount of complete garbage too, though. Like, say, this one:

Yours can't possibly be worse. I mean, wow. I've read and enjoyed some really bad stories here, but that one is genuinely horrible. Still got into the group, though. I can't for the life of me imagine what kind of quality standard they're actually looking for, but "being good" sure doesn't have a lot to do with it.

Well, there's always an element of personal taste, so that's not something I'd blame anyone for. Otherwise, though, I'm really getting the impression that it's more about how many of the group's admins you're friends with than anything else.
