Epiphany of a Nerd (or: overwhelmed by the Nerd Side) (or: The Nerd Awakens?) · 1:52am Apr 1st, 2016

You know...usually, when I read various Nerdpedias online, I can follow along, keep up with what the articles say, learn new things.

But whenever I visit Wookieepedia for ANY reason, I just feel like I'm drowning in nerd.

I know every factoid there is to know about Dragonball, Detective Conan, Sailormoon, and probably at least a hundred other very, very nerdy things. The only things I don't know about Star Trek come from the various video games and comics, and I can easily assimilate that information because I know the 'verse inside and out.

I know millions of things about comic books I've never even read, as well as TV shows, movies, video games, etc.

My head is 190% full of nerd facts.

And yet Wookieepedia is too nerdy for me.

It's just in the nature of the nerd.

Never been there.

Sorry, but I cannot resist posting this. :twistnerd:

3839974 It's got some cool stuff about the Star Wars universe.

Did you know that there's a desert version of the Tauntaun, Mythril?

Clearly you have a lower nerdy-chlorian count than you thought.

3839991 Did you know the Millennium Falcon went through 4 owners before Lando won it in a Sabaac game? And it was the last surviving model of its specific run because it went berserk on the line. Or that the only still original part is the pilots seat. Or that it survived a direct hit from a Turbolaser with the shields down at the ripe old age of 200.

Or that the Falcon is older than Chewbacca, and winds up outliving him?
The Falcon's ID #

3840268 Well, I did kinda guess that from the legends thing in a star wars book I have. Chewie died, but the falcon was still there.

1) Star Wars is the most mainstream nerd thing on the planet. It's my understanding that something like the Legion of Super-Heroes is more objectively complex, but because it isnt well known the trivia hasn't become militarized like Star Wars.
2) Nerdishness in its competitive aspect is about knowing more than your opponent. You display your alpha nerd dominance by marshaling more obscure trivia than the other nerd.
3) Star Wars combines a wooly - headed creator, schizotech worldbuilding, nonsense naming schemes, way too many writers making messes, multiple underedited reboot attempts, and a general mystical minded contempt for logic and order. Its trivia geography is distinctly chaotic.

Add those factors together, and Star Wars is the Belgium of fandom - the fighting cockpit of nerdery. It's where nerdish armies march to fight their battles
