    an update

Hi all. I hope everyone is doing well. I've been taking an extended break from FimFiction lately. Had some undesirable interactions with some users. That coupled with some of my creative frustrations just makes logging on... kind of unpleasant? If I do log on, it's usually to try and catch up with the fics I'm reading and then I quickly log off. I'm just feeling drained with the MLP fanfic

It was my birthday yesterday! I'd meant to post the day of, but honestly, I was so tired and busy I just didn't have much time or energy to sit at my computer. Wanna hear a funny story or two, plus see the new playlist I made for Sassaflash? Get it after the jump!

    ponies fix everything

New chapter for What They Hope to Find is out! I talk about what's next after the jump, but before that, a quick anecdote:

Last night, my family was having trouble finding something to watch together. My nine-year-old son didn't have any ideas, but he pretty much shot down every suggestion we had. Eventually, out of frustration and half-serious, I say, "Let's just watch ponies."

    Jinglemas! And Rarijack!

I'm participating in this year's Jinglemas! It's a cute fic exchange that happens every year. I requested a rare pair ship, three guesses which. :twilightsheepish: Today is the last day to join, so if you want in on it, be sure to read over the rules and PM Shakespearicles!

I can be a pony in Second Life.

It's sad I'm that excited about it. If you saw some of the Sims I found you might not think me so pathetic though. Second Life creators are freaking amazing sometimes.

(Are you on SL? Pm me!)

Is Second Life good? I've considered trying it before, but I've never seen anything really appealing about it.

Except now, I guess?

It's cool, I swear! It's like a weird mega meta-mmo Sandbox. I should post pics of the MLP sims I found.

I really like it for the rp possibilities. I've seen some amazing sims (special areas within SL) that are very detailed. I found an awesome cyberpunk Sim, an ff7 Sim, and a few mlp sims. They have mini games within SL too that are kind of reminiscent of Garry's mod. Its primary draw though has always been the social aspect. Sometimes I'll go to a "club" in Second life, make my avatar start dancing, and just chat with people. It can be very immersive. I can totally see how people let it dominates their lives.

Graphically, it takes some getting used to. Even on low settings, it can tax a weak computer because the world has to constantly buffer. Also, your avatar will suck hard in the beginning. There are lots of freebies you can find to make them suck less, but if you really want to look cool, you need to invest a little. I think I spent 10-12 bucks, and I have a few avatars that I really love now. One is an anthro cat girl with cyberpunk accessories. It can be fun though, just shopping around. Depending on what avatar you go for, it can either be a simple process or a tad bit difficult.

I can blog more about my exploration of the MLP community on SL. It looks like they have some good activity, judging by the Sims.

3806997 i've just never heard of it

3806997 Weeeelll... I dunno if I'd want to invest my money into SL at all, even if I did find myself enjoying it. Maybe I'll try it one day though, seems like it might be better than I previously though.

My avatar on here basically represents how I feel about investing even a dime into the game. I don't do that sort of thing unless I really like something, and constantly play it. Even then though, I don't like spending money on stuff like that, visual features and the like.

Maybe I'll end up doing that though. We'll just have to see, I guess.

3807009 Yeah, I can understand that. I resisted spending money in SL forever. Like I said, they have a lot of freebies. If you really look, you can pull together a decent avatar.

3806998 I think they have a documentary about it on Netflix, though it has a somewhat negative light to it. If you ever see a show or movie talking about a "virtual world" where you can "live a second life" being whatever you want to be, and doing whatever you want to do, with a house and a full time job INSIDE the game...they're making a reference to Second Life.

It's not a conventional "game" like WoW or anything like that. It's a big virtual sandbox. Linden Labs (the devs) allow people to create custom content right down to how the world functions. I've seen places where people can run around battling each other with guns or swords, for example.

It really does feel like the wild west though. Quality varies depending on the skill of parcel owners (parcel = virtual real estate in SL). I try to avoid the overly complicated because it freezes my poor computer. :twilightoops:

3807009 Actually, the sim I just logged on to has a free pony avatar. It looks pretty decent, though it's not the same as the one I linked in my blog post.

I use to play SL along time ago, in a sim called "Avilion" I was one of the Admins of that sim, I left when I decided I was spending to much money for stuff. as far as ponies go, I am still waiting for the release of Legends of Equestria, the only thing is, they will not allow or even have access to Alicorn characters, which I suppose in a way is a good thing, so I would probably create a new Character for LoE and leave Passions Star just for FiM:Fiction.

3807263

Do they have screenshots for LoE yet? I heard the buzz about it, but I know next to nothing about it. I think they had a limited alpha test and I missed it.

I've been fairly thrifty on SL, though some would contend I've already spent too much. If I could get on more regularly, I probably would spend a ton of money. I had an apartment in a FF7 sim for a little while, but I gave it up because I didn't have anyone to invite over. I really want to put together a pony avatar. They have so many mods for Equestria Pride, and I think you can load custom cutie marks!

3807704 Actually, look up Legends of Equestria on you tube for all sorts of movie play throughs
