It must have been, that's how the site works mechanically. The lower three slots of the box are for stories that got featured at an earlier point and recently updated. It's why you tend to see the same ones in there over and over again. New ones go somewhere in the higher spots.

I used to be confused about it too, but after someone pointed it out to me, it's really quite easy to notice if you pay attention to it. Any story that pops up down there will have recently, as in within the last few hours or so, had an update. I've confirmed that because a number of them were on my read list and they always pop up in the featured box and my feed at the same time.
