    2023 Year in Review

2023. What a year. I keep getting this feeling... this thought that, "Okay, once I get through this, then I can settle down. I just need to make it to the weekend. I just need to finish this busy end-of-the-month. Once I get through this quarter. Oh, it's 2024 already..? Fuck."

    Happy Hearth's Warming!

    and Merry Jinglemas!
I requested a story about how Twilight's Ponyville friends celebrated the holiday the year before she arrived.
    FanOfMostEverything wrote for me:

    EFor a Given Value
Twilight united five dubiously sane mares into an unstoppable force for good... which has some implications for what they were like before she came to town.

Regarding Commissions: · 8:55pm Jan 23rd, 2016

I get a lot of messages asking for commissions, or about whether or not I would do them. So I want to make an all-inclusive post regarding them. In short:

No. I do not do commissions and I don't have a Patreon account (despite its apparent ubiquity in this fandom) for several reasons:

1. I don't need the money: I'm not rich, but I am fortunate enough to have a very good job that I actually like, that pays well to cover my bills, and leaves me with enough free time to write for my (and your) enjoyment. And if I charged what I would be making at my day job for the time I spent writing a commission, it would cost (too-F#cking-much to charge for a fan fiction commission). Because...

2. My time is legitimately valuable: Would I like to get paid to write full time? Hells-To-The-Yes! But unless you are a major publisher with deep pockets and you're looking for the next New York Times Best-Selling author, and you want me to write something professionally, I'm going to go ahead and keep my day job. Because even if you were...

3. I absolutely detest obligations: Nothing makes me hate something more than knowing that I have to do it, that I owe it to someone. Besides, money is a terrible creative motivator (for me). In darker times, I used to do oil painting art commissions. And I grew to hate painting as a result. I don't want that to happen to my writing too. That being said, if you have an idea that you would like to see me write, feel free to suggest them to me. I might write it (someday) if I like the idea. My deadlines are self-imposed, or exist for fun or challenge, from a group contest or something. My muse is a fickle bitch with a very short attention span. The bottom line is that I want to write (or not write) on MY terms. Because... I do what I want.

Ah, It's cool you know what you're doing with your life man, to know when is enough and all, stay that way.
Although...

We all lose something along the way, aren't we?
Thanks God for Ponies ...

A friend whose name you might pointed this blog to me on behalf of a recent guy asking for a request. And holy shit, I've never agreed with a blog so much. You actually got me nodding aggresively and saying "HELL YEAH" while reading this.

Commissions and requests are the kind of thing that, while flattering when you get them the first time, can get a little... I don't want to say annoying, because after all they're about someone liking your job and thinking you can create something they'll enjoy -- and that's flattering -- but they do put some people in a rather uncomfortable position.

All in all: god dammit if this blog didn't make me respect the shit out of you in less than twenty seconds. Goddamn props for it. Gagh.
