[rant] "Downvoting comments is a bad thing?" · 2:52pm Jan 13th, 2016

Downvoting comments is a normal thing. People disagree with others, and if a comment is deemed unfavorable in a person's eyes, than they will downvote it and may even reply back if the author of the story has not blocked their account. There are very few instances when the downvote feature has been misused for abuse, but there is a distinct difference between abuse and "I don't like your comment". So people, just because there are downvotes on comments doesn't mean there is a "downvote squad" or "haters". It just means that people do not like the comments, nor do they like the content being discussed. If that means that the author's story is part of the discussion (most likely anyway), then that means that the author's story is also disliked.
Also, can we please delete the word "hater(s)" from existence? It's not even a good word, and when used, people sound like whiny teenagers who have no clue about "opinions". Please, teenagers, understand that not everyone agrees with your likes and dislikes. I understand that you think the story is "magnificent" or "well-written", but not everyone agrees. I have had my own run-ins with people who did not like my story. At first, I had this same mindset, but after reviewing what they said present-day, I understand their criticisms wholeheartedly and have no distaste for that criticism. I'm more open-minded in that aspect, and I suggest you do the same. Even if they spam kappas or ridiculous sayings that belong in 4chan threads or twitch chats, I do see their criticisms as valid as long as they don't leave it with "Bad story kappa" and no reason to supply their disliking of said story.
So please, either eliminate the word "hater(s)" (in all its formats), or for the love of all that is unified, reduce its usage to the barest of means. Also, don't believe that a downvote brigade is attacking your story. If an author has downvotes in the comments, chances are that the story is either "unfavorable in public eye" or that the author has portrayed themselves in a way that is deemed unfavorable. It is not an attack, but a view or opinion, kay?

We seem to think alike on a lot of things. I've rarely ever down voted comments, and only if I disagree with what, or how, it was said. I get down voted on occasion. It's usually because what I'm saying is controversial, and as we know, there's a lot of that on this site. I'm not saying that there aren't butthurt whiny bastards out there, but those are usually the people who get down voted and complain. As a general rule, if your comment seems to be drawing down votes and no positive feedback, you're probably wrong.
I don't give a fuck if people like my shit.
The up/down vote on a comment is a quick and easy way for people to interact annonimously: no typing, no chance of reply, no consequences, and no need to invest valuable brain time actually engaged in worrisome thinking!
Their importance and worthiness of consideration pretty much matches the effort people put into them, i.e. not much!
IMHO if a person can't be bothered to post a textual message then they've given you a good clue as to the value of their opinion.
I see what you did there.
