Review Roundup: December 21st - January 1st · 4:55pm Jan 3rd, 2016

After more than a month, Obs' Secret Santa story compilation is finally a thing! Thanks to the author of At Least There Was Good Coffee for writing me a perfectly silly story about Gusty (the Whinneapolis delegate from Spike at your Service) stuck Ponyville before Hearth's Warming, and roped into solving a robbery. A woodchipper is involved, but it's all goofiness from top to bottom; a very pleasant read.

On the same subject... since all the entries are anonymous (for the time being, at least), I thought I'd open up a challenge to anyone who's interested in doing a little reading. The rules are simple: PM me, and tell me which story you think I wrote, as well as why (e.g. "My faith in humanity refuses to let me believe there's another author on this site who would use the phrase "eldrich spires of lambent puissance" unironically"). If you can pick my story out of the lot, I'll give you a fabulous prize!

...What prize? I dunno, probably I'll review a story you'd like me to look at. If you want something else, just ask, I'm flexible. But hey, it's an excuse to read a wide-raging compilation (settings and themes range from show-tone to post-apocalyptic), and who doesn't want to do that?

But I'm getting off-topic. That topic being, if I remember the header of this post aright, a Review Roundup! Click down below the break to see what the last two weeks at OMPR held:

Some thoughts on what kinds of issues are most important to discuss when reviewing, and which ones are easiest to discuss--and how they don't necessarily overlap.

Wednesday, December 30, 2015: Fandom Classics Part 141: Ascend

My review of xTSGx's pre-S3 tale of Twilight suddenly growing wings--and reacting to that about as well as she ever does to something new and inexplicable.

Short reviews of Help, by Daemon of Decay; Schadenfreude, by Daemon McRae; and The Misfile, by Alexstrazsa.

Now that's a challenge I can get behind.
