Top Five Games I Like but Everyone Hates · 3:03pm Dec 9th, 2015

Flame Shield activated!

Well, it's time to go back on something I've promised you guys for a while now. After all, I want to give you all sides of the story! Also I'm doing this because my teacher is lecturing me in English, but that's besides the point. Video games are a big part of who we are, and obviously there are going to be some we like far more than others. Be it for their story, their gameplay or just the fact they're a terrible game, the list goes on. But there are of course going to be some differentiating opinions.

So that's what I'm here for! I'm here to list off the games that I like but everyone else hates for some damn reason. Be it just trying to be mainstream or just hating the game because it ruined your life, there could be many reasons for hating a game. But I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to tell you the other side of people's opinions. Yay.

Number 5:
Assassin's Creed III

I cannot see the end of the amount of hate this game gets. And why? Probably because people can't see that there are other games besides their precious Assassin's Creed II. Head's up, you guys, Assassin's Creed II isn't the best game of all time! After all, you have the new and MUCH better Assassin's Creed IV to enjoy. It has ships! Back on topic, after doing a full playthrough of Assassin's Creed III (thank you Mike for letting me use your PS3), I can safely say this game is actually pretty fun! And after playing a bit of IV, I do understand why people dislike this game; it is certainly not the best the series has to offer. Does that mean III should be getting the hate it gets? Well, no, it doesn't. III is still a great game with a huge world, wonderful ways to kill people, and what I found to be a very engaging story. And that ending... wow, it was perfect. But alas, I can't spoil things here. Go and have a gander at Assassin's Creed III whenever you get the chance. TOMAHAWK CHOP!!!

Number 4:
Skylanders (in general)

Now THIS game I don't understand what all the hate is for! Okay, well, tell a lie, I do actually know. The publishers of this game are Activision, and we all know how much we love them. But to be honest, is that the only reason to hate Skylanders? You could argue the toy thing is bad, but I would just say that I think it's actually pretty interesting how it works. You could argue the gameplay is tedious and for little children, and I would just say that's because it's a kid's game. Duh. And for a kid's game, all the titles are very enjoyable with bright colors and a generally vibrant atmosphere. The one thing I think we all can agree on is that Kaos, the main villain of all the games, is just a joy to watch. He brings so much life to the games, not to mention he's voiced by THE Steven Richard Horvitz. Each and every one of the Skylanders plays differently, adding tons of replayability. It's a fun little RPG, and even if Activision screwed up Spyro, I don't think that's the only reason everyone should be avoiding this like the plague. Just give it a chance and maybe you might like it.

Number 3:
Sonic and the Black Knight

First off, fuck you; I love this game. Second off, even after the disasters of Sonic Boom and 06, people still hate this game with a passion. Why? Because it's a Sonic game with swords? At least it's actually playable, unlike Secret Rings. I actually really enjoyed playing through this game and slashing through enemies with my sword. Sure it wasn't exactly like Sonic, but do you think little me really cared about that? No, he cared about what how to beat to beat that damn earth dragon. The visuals are appealing, the voices, while sometimes slightly annoying, is well acted, and the music... sweet damn the music. Certainly one of the better soundtracks of Sonic, lemme tell you that right now. As for the gameplay itself, I particularly like the skills and weapon crafting for all the playable characters (except for Sonic, who holds his sword like Chrom from Fire Emblem Awakening). The story was also nice, though nothing to really write home about. I will say that it has a few twists and turn in it that you may or may not expect. All in all, this game is greatly unappreciated, which saddens me. At least have a look at it and see if it doesn't look good.

Number 2:
Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility

I was never all that big of a Harvest Moon fan until I played Tree of Tranquility. It's thanks to this game that I was able to enjoy some of the other Harvest Moon games and get ALL the waifus. So what's with all the hate for this game? It's no secret that Harvest Moon has recently been going down the shitter, which is a shame. But I could never figure out why no one likes this title. Until now: The loading screens are too long and the controls are wonky.

...okay? Harvest Moon was never for its controls or loading times anyway, so what gives? I have the firm belief that if a game is fun and enjoyable, it does its job as a video game and thus is a good game. And you know what? I found myself really liking this game. The characters were a blast to be around (as much fun as a farming game is anyway), story was cute, and the gameplay remained largely unchanged from any other Harvest Moon game. All in all, I really like this one. Good on you, guys! Now, "Tale of Two Towns"... that's a different story entirely.

Number 1:
Metroid Prime: Federation Force

...

...never in my entire life have I seen a game so utterly, utterly destroyed by the internet. Am I allowed to do this? Talk about a game that isn't even out yet? Whatever, I'm doing it anyway. Metroid Prime: Federation Force has been critically destroyed by everyone. People who like this are few and far between, and it saddens me to see this. Oh no, not the game, but how poorly received it's been. I just... can't believe it. Funnily enough, I'm actually looking forward to this game. I know, better hang me on a cross and murder my dog! Honestly, if you just want bitch and moan about it, you can go and screw yourself. C'mon guys! At least see how the game plays before you pan it!

So, let's go through the reasons why people hate this game, shall we? First off, the art style. Second off, the gameplay. Lastly, "It's not a Metroid game if it doesn't have Samus". Do you know what this all tells me? This tells me that you can't accept change. I don't know if many people remember, but Wind Waker; yes, Wind Waker, one of my favorite Zelda games of all time, was PANNED because of its art style. No joke. Just because you don't like the style doesn't mean it's a bad game. Just give it a chance. And that Samus thing? I understand that Samus has been a big part of the Metroid games; hell, she's the main character. But think of this as a side story. And who knows, maybe Samus WILL make it into the game! Maybe as a DLC character, but she's there. And don't lie that if Sylux is in this game, you won't freak out.

Just give it a chance, guys. Who knows, maybe this game will be just as good as Super Metroid and Metroid Prime! Okay, well, no, that's probably not true, but it'll certainly be better than Metroid Prime Pinball.

Oh boy, this one was a doozy. I hope I didn't anger too many people with this, and I hope I made some valid points that may change your point of view on everything. Or not, whatever. I'm serious about that Metroid Prime: Federation Force thing though. Reggie Fils-Aime himself even stated that Nintendo is aware of Federation Force's poor reception, but has decided to still go through with it in hope that the game will do good. I damn-well hope it does!

Because if it doesn't and Sylux isn't in it, there will be a riot.

Mood: :flutterrage: (angry at dumb people)

I actually like all of the games you mentioned. Too bad they get a bad rep. They are genuinely fun games.

3604952
Yay! Well, at least we can enjoy some genuinely fine gems. :scootangel:

I'm actually looking forward to Metroid Prime: Federation Force JUST because it's a Metroid PRIME game. I repeat. METROID. PRIME. GAME. When was the last time that appeared? CORRUPTION. We've NEEDED this.

3604968
Yeah, Other M wasn't... terrible, but a new Prime game would be absolutely amazing! Also Sylux. We all like Sylux, right?

3604972 He's no Ridley.... but yeah he's pretty cool.

3604974
Now that's true. While Ridley is certainly the more powerful villain, Sylux just has that mysterious factor about him that I want to see explored. And remember: Metroid Dread is nearly completed and ready to be released any time Nintendo is ready. :raritywink:

3604981 True..... you know what WOULD be cool? A Metroid game where you play AS the pirates. Get to remind everyone WHY they're so dangerous instead of just cannon fodder for Samus.

3604988
Playing as the villain is always fun.

#RidleyconfirmedforSmash

I've literally only played Sonic and the Black Knight on this list. It's fun, but I got stuck on the last boss. As for Federation Force, hell at least it's a Metroid game. Then again, I actually enjoyed Other M, sooo... yeah.

3604993 He IS playable as a Stage Hazard I just recently found that out and am happy.

3604999
Yeah, if you hack the game. :rainbowlaugh:

3604961 Yep. More power to us.

3604998
Hey, we're just bitching about Other M's horrid plot and it's ability to somehow destroy Samus as a character, not the gameplay. :raritywink:

3605006
BTW, if you get Federation Force, wanna play together?

3605005 Actually... no. Damage him enough and he's on your side.

3605018
Oh, really? On which stage, if I may ask?

3605015 I have emulators so I don't have traditional systems. Although I borrow my friend's games/ systems all of the time. :P So it all evens out.

3605019 The Other M stage. On the Wii-U version.

3605022
Ah, of course. :rainbowlaugh: I don't have a Wii U, so I wouldn't have known. :rainbowwild:

Aw, Assassin's Creed, good times. I played and like 4 and my personal favorite rogue. I also like 3 with a few others.

3605030
So long as Unity is nowhere around us, we're all good. :rainbowlaugh:

3605027 But still. Ridley playable..... AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.

3605033 The assassin creed game or your OC's love interest! :rainbowkiss:

3605033 AC in general is a dying franchise.

3605039
The game, nitwit. :ajbemused: :rainbowlaugh:

3605041
Syndicate wasn't too bad. :applejackunsure:

3605048 Yeah when you're dealing with the PAST. Kill the storylines that deal with the present please.

This reminds me, I sent a suggestion to Nintedo a Few years ago. Never got a response back, so chances are the didn't really read it. The suggestion was for a Metroid game that was something of a prequel to the Metroid series, in it you play as a chozo a century or so after the chozo decided to go back to simpler technologies. Instead of an arm cannon the chozo you played as was supposed have what I called a power staff, and had a simpler power suit. I even suggested they call it Metroid: Chozo Legacy. I sent them everything I had on the concept when I was in high school, years before the GameCube ever was announced to be launching.

I don't by any means hate AC III, I just didn't like Connor as a main character. He seemed a bit bland. I would have preferred if Haytham was the main character.

3605030 Rogue is also my favorite

3605203
That could work, but Nintendo never really replies to anything, so... :applejackunsure:

3605368
All's fair. Honestly, I just liked going around and doing whatever the hell I wanted to. :rainbowlaugh:

3605370 I figured as much, but the point is that as series Metroid will never truly grow if all games focus on Samus. Don't just tell the players about elements of the universe, show it. And as sacraligious as it might sound, getting away from Samus for a few games might be the best thing for the series.

Going away from hating games and other junk, I have a new Monster Hunter story up if anyone is interested! :rainbowkiss:

3605393 Yay! I will give it a read.

I loved AC III, my personal favorite AC game.

I've never played Skylanders since the prices are a bit too ridiculous for me.

I liked the Black Knight.

And I've never heard of Harvest or Federation.

Assassin's Creed III : No played, can't tell.

Nice list. I have to agree with you on Black Knight and Skylanders. Sure both games have bad reputations for some reason yet are pretty good. I'm going to try to get my own up soon.

3605564
For both of you, I have a new story out that you might find interesting. It's about Monster Hunter X, Monster Hunter Stories, and the CMC all in one: https://www.fimfiction.net/story/304491/monster-hunter-stories-shadows-of-equestria
