Pregnant Pony Parade [Spoilers] · 3:57am Oct 18th, 2015
Rainbow Dash:So, you said you needed our help with something?
Twilight Sparkle: Follow me.
[Rainbow Dash and Twilight take off in flight, leaving the other flightless ponies on the ground]
Applejack: God dammit.
Well, today was GM Barrow's episode, and I gotta say, I was looking forward to it quite a bit. I loved this episode but had no idea why until I saw who wrote it. I attended her panel at BABS2015 and she's actually quite impressive. In hindsight, it was no surprise that I ended up loving the episode as much as I did. She said, during her panel, that she was writing an episode later in the season (this was back when S5 just aired). I honestly forgot about it until today, so the surprise was even greater.
More details below:
Pinkie was spot on in this episode. Not a moment did she fail to make me laugh, even if some of them were closer to groans than laughs. I felt that maybe the "spooky reflection of rarity that I know is just my own imagination" went a bit far, and for maximum chuckles could have been cut off at "spooky reflection of Rarity", but whatever. Overall, she was all laughs and zero irritation. GM Barrow writes Pinkie and she writes her WELL.
Shining and Cadance were also great in this episode. Cadance really doesn't feel like she gets enough development, personally, and Shining suffers this curse even more. Fortunately, we got some great reactions out of him this time around, and even though he only got maybe 7 minutes of screen time, it was awesome. Shining a huge nerd-turned-macho and that is awesome.
I hope they show us a little bit of belly on Cadance, or allude to the pregnancy in future episodes. I don't want this to be another Mrs. Cake incident where they just dump the foals on us with no warning. It'll be good to see the continuity that we've become to used to (and pony preg bellehs are super cute so I'm not opposed to that, either).
The interactions Pinkie had with other ponies, especially the foals, are great as well. Her interactions with Scootaloo (during the balloon gag) were hilarious, and Featherweight's lispy cheek was top notch. This is a very comedy-heavy episode, and none of the humor overstays its welcome.
The CMC's cutie marks still seem a bit out of place, but we'll grow used to them in time... I hope.
This episode, while not an emotional powerhouse like the last two, was honestly one of the most enjoyable episodes to date and delivers an important plotpoint in the series with humor and ease.

You can't preg horse on television :B
I must've been in a funky mood when I watched this episode, because I only laughed once during the whole thing. It was during the little montage of Shining reacting to a certain room, which I felt was a very well-timed and edited joke that separated itself from the rest of the episode's humor. Maybe I'm just a cold bastard, because I simply don't find Pinkie to be that funny a character.
She's the most dedicated to comedy relief of the mane six, and yet I find her among the least funny alongside AJ, even when the writer knows what he/she is doing. She wasn't annoying or unintentionally sociopathic in this episode, this isn't season 2 thank Christ, but I guess I just don't find her that compelling a character.
Speaking of which, did anyone else find Rarity to be kind of... off in this episode? She doesn't get much screen time, but the things she says and does seem awfully out of place for her, demonstrating a kind of social ineptitude that would feel more in line with Dash or... Pinkie, weirdly enough.
3479163 it was boring tbh and Moondancer irks me
I liked how they referenced Pinkies' definitely-not-stalky filing system from Party Pooped.
