    Never A Dull Moment

Thank you all for helping me out back in May  The support means the world to me, and thanks to your kind contributions I was able to go and visit my boy in Britain. I'll try and mock up a proper recap blog—though I am notoriously terrible at doing those, I don't think I've ever managed a proper recap blog for any of the various conventions I've gone to over the years. I guess there was

My Little Noir: The Forties Were Magic [SPOILERS] · 10:18pm Sep 20th, 2015

Soarin': Where were you at midnight?
Rainbow Dash: I was asleep! I was having this totally awesome dream! You were in it.... and Spitfire... and Fleetfoot... and Rarity...
[Wonderbolts exchange nervous glances]
Rainbow: And Windrider.. and Celestia... and Luna... and Sweetie Belle...
Soarin': Uh...
Rainbow: [drools slightly] I-I'm gonna go use the bathroom for a few hours...

The second Rarity episode in a row was almost as good as the first one. Also, that Raridash shipping material, holy hell.

Rarity and Rainbow aren't usually a pair of ponies you see together outside of finales and premiers, but the premise of the episode did a good job putting the two together in a way where they really worked. I loved how Rarity's sort of frilly, apparently distracting attention to the finer aspects of life actually pulled through with her here. She was maxing out her Rarity-ness, and it went smoothly.

Rainbow herself was not really anything but Rainbow, and this was neither bad not good. She just sort of was there to act as a plot device; nothing new was added to her other than the fact that she moved up in the Wonderbolt ranks ever-so-slightly (and only through the way they see her, not any actual score of ranking). She did have some prime moments that made me grin, but other than that, she was just... Rainbow Dash.

Rarity really worked her charm in this episode. Thirty seconds in and she was already moving ponies to do shit for her. A lot of people peg her as a slut for this kind of behavior, but if you've got an asset, why not take advantage of it? That's like have a forklift and decided to move all the boxes by hand. It was great seeing her feminine charm with the sort of light-noir setting they had going for this episode.

Spitfire's mom is a hottie, this we all know. It's great having another middle-aged pone for the milfening. She's got those Harshwhinny eyes—the shape of them. I kind of like them, they fit the older mares better.

I don't really have that many thought on Windrider. His voice kinda grated on me, but it is nice to see another male Wonderbolt. Most of them are chicks and we gotta have some of that gender diversity you know what I'm saying? Soarin' can't hold that shit up all on his own.

On the topic of diversity, we got some guard ponies who were actually different colors than dark grey and white! Alright, way to branch out, Princesses.

Episode was really nice. It wasn't my absolute favorite, but it was a great episode regardless. The use of the noir setting was adorable and really cool at the same time. It was certainly a better mystery episode than MMMystery on the Friendship Express. I think it's because they really owned it and dove into the feeling rather than just trying to be quirky.

I loved Windrider's voice. Beautiful.
Oh, and Spitfire's mom was sexy.
I liked this episode is what I'm trying to say.

Also, that Raridash shipping material, holy hell.

I agree. They were pushing that super hard.

You and I practically had the same title for our review blogs...though can't say mine is as positive as yours.

Wasn't a fan over the sheer obviousness of the culprit or how the moral was the exact same one from Swarm of the Century.

But the piss-taking of the noir tropes were on point. Plus it was a really pretty episode to look at.

I've seen so many people say this, but I must have missed all of it. I saw no shipping fuel in the episode, unless the shipping fuel was "two ponies talked" kind of fuel.

That episode was fucking phenomenal.

The noir detective aesthetic and Rarity's more sophisticated reviews of, say, Windrider's cologne was very immersive.
