And I Would've Gotten Away With It Too, If It Weren't For You Meddling Blue Screens! · 11:05pm Sep 17th, 2015
My evil plan for this week was twofold: make up for the lukewarm If You Give a Little Love reception of new readers with relation to Mise en Scene by getting the new part out a week in advance from the projected three-week output time and write a story about Sassy Saddles for the EqD Writer's Training Grounds this week that relates back to said ongoing series, ending in me stirring up more fans from EqD's large stake in the fandom. Sunday, everything appeared to have gone as planned. I was about 500 words into the new part, and I felt looking back on it that it could be among my personal best.
Monday night, went to start work on Polishing Pyrite, the story for EqD. Fully expected to have Word up and operational within minutes. Then this happened.
From the limited knowledge I'd accumulated of this phenomenon from TVTropes, I knew at that moment that I was screwed.
Three days later, and I have some good news. First off, Orange Blossom Scandal, the new IGYALL part, was recovered and placed onto a flash drive with maximum security protection. (Not really on that last bit.) Work on it will not continue until the new software comes on Monday (as I don't even want to try the horror of writing it on a tablet), but it should release on schedule, just not ahead of it like I'd anticipated.
Bad news: Polishing Pyrite will more than likely not be finished by the time EqD submission closes at 11:59 tomorrow evening. I have access to public computers, but other real-life situations (read: studying) have kept me from making up for lost time. Now, I may be able to pull off a miracle tomorrow, but don't expect it. Hopefully, it'll still get some buzz when it comes out even without the EqD endorsement, and from my observations of past like:dislike ratios of EqD Writer's Training Ground entries, it doesn't give you that much of a boost anyways. The bigger problem will be whether or not people will still want to read stuff about last week's episode after the new one comes in. I've noticed fans have gotten a bit pickier about how up-to-date things are.
I have Polishing Pyrite up in a GDoc right now, and I will warn you: I've been reading a lot of older texts from 1600s-1800s for my studies, and a bit of the narration has leaked in. Granted, the vocabulary will be pretty straightforward and not overly flowery like some stories in that period, but it will get purple. After a while, I gave up on trying to write it in modern style and thought it'd be a cool gimmick to make it a bit more vintage in both writing and plot aspects.
Yuck! Computer problems suck so hard.
I hope you manage to get everything up and running in good order. And good luck with your ongoing writing. I wish you lots of luck
(I need to get my butt in gear and actually start writing some, myself.)

Thanks! I'm just grateful the new part was able to be salvaged from all this.
And are you one of those fan purists who ~only read stuff about the latest episode~? Because, annoying as I find them to be, I feel bad that I won't be able to provide for them. Hopefully people will still want to read Canterlot Boutique stuff when Rarity Investigates comes out...

Nah, I read whatever looks interesting to me. Heck, I hope that a lot of people aren't like that too, or else my story about the stallion from the Equestria Games is going to be totally overlooked. Frankly, I worry a bit for it since I was planning to release it over a month ago.

I think it's just certain parts of the fandom that are that way. A very small, but vocal minority.
If they were bigger, we wouldn't have near as much changeling fic as we do.

True that, true that.

Wait, there are people like that? ...What am I saying, of course there are. But still. Really, folks? Really?

There are, trust me. One fight I saw on dA was just because the artist wanted to draw Twi in her Easyglider costume and someone said it was "too S4." Never mind that the outfit was cute in the first place...

Yeah. It's a pretty big stretch, isn't it? What about all the times you guys probably re watch stuff, and yet you won't let artists do their thing? Not all of us have the time to do stuff right after the episode airs, you know...
