I Wrote a New Story! · 11:02pm Aug 16th, 2015

Or new-ish, anyway. It's actually a revised story from the Writeoff before last.

Northwest of Canterlot, perched high in the boughs of an ancient oak tree, there is a city of soaring towers and deep shadows.

A love letter to Cold in Gardez's "Lost Cities".

It took me more than a month to kick this into a shape I was happy with. You can find the old Writeoff copy in my Original Versions collection. That old copy got closer to Gardez's first story than I realized, though, both in terms of theme and content. Horizon and Bad Horse both gave me some good pointers about ways to shift things around, but even with that help, it was a real pain. Come to think of it, I should mention Georg too—he also gave some good pointers.

Anyway, it's done (thank goodness) and I can move on to some more exciting things I've been writing. But before I sign off, I do want to mention two other Writeoff-related stories you should go read.

The first, from Cold in Gardez himself, is "Land of the Blind" which went up last night. I read through the first two parts this afternoon, and it's the same good work y'all have come to expect from him. "Land of the Blind" is an historical adventure with some original characters, and I absolutely recommend you go read it. It's gotten enough love to hit the non-mature Feature Box, but it really deserves to be in the full Feature Box. I think I can promise that you'll enjoy it, if you head on over there.

The second is horizon's "If You Can't Beat 'Em", which is a zany Starlight Glimmer comedy. I'm usually not a big fan of zany comedies, but horizon knows what he's doing and this is a fun ride.

Y'all should go check them out! (You should check out my story, too, but it's awfully experimental and I know most people probably won't be big fans. But still—you should go find out for yourself!)

Finished horizon's last break. I am still full of wat. :derpytongue2:

So much to reeeeeeaaaaaad :pinkiecrazy:

Ooh, sounds interesting! Prepare to be pedantically nitpicked gently and constructively advised on any uses of Finnish in the story! :scootangel:

Two great stories that go well together! And my cheap character destruction. :trollestia: Thank you for the plug!

I hate to say "that's the point", but…

Thanks for introducing me to the work of the artist Khang Le by the way.

I have to admit, he's pretty awesome. I didn't know him either, until I went looking for something that'd fly as cover art. After tracking down the source of that image, though, I was very happy to link back to that collection.
