A couple weeks ago Arcanist Ascendant, Anti-Pope, Vicarius Judi Iscariotae and editor of A New Sun, mentioned listening to story or character-appropriate music while writing. I can't listen to music and write at the same time, but coming up with character music sounds interesting.
CELESTIA
"Crucifixus," by J. S. Bach
"Outer Scorpion Squadron," by The Mountain Goats
"Green Grass," Agathe & Fine, written by Tom Waits
LUNA
"La Cathédrale Engloutie," by Debussy
"Lux Aurumque," by Eric Whitacre (or "Water Night")
"Ain't Misbehavin'," Anita O'Day, written by Fats Waller and others
MAG
"Work Ethic Myth," Thou
"Oh Father, Oh Satan, Oh Sun," by Behemoth
BITTERMANN
"Ne Me Quitte Pas," Édith Piaf (except the comment section thinks that was a mistake and Maysa Matarazzo is the actual performer here), written by Jacques Brel
THE ELDEST
"Misery is the River of the World," Tom Waits
LADY CASTAN
"If You Go Away," performed by Julie Christmas
[CHARACTER NOT UNLOCKED]
"The Whip and the Body," by Lord Mantis (wish I could link the album version, since it's more to the point and has better audio, but the album art is one of the most NSFW images I've ever seen)
"Breaker of Worlds," by Madder Mortem
"The Martyr," by Immortal Technique
There. I tried to keep the mood even, but it didn't always work. I tried to keep the Tom Waits to a minimum but the fact of the matter is that I have a fixation.
Wrong on all counts, dear Ragnar. Here's a revised list;
Celestia;
She's interesting because she varies greatly, from glorious alien empress to sad, introspective old person to a kind and gentle friend. This in mind, I have found tracks that suit all three personas.
War Will Come- Jeff Kurtenacker
Reaching- Jeff Kurtenacker(again)
Sorrowful Prince Pelleas- Yuka Tsujiyoko
You have power... like mine- Rei Kondoh
Luna;
She's just as complex as Celestia, but harder to pin down. Sense of duty to Celestia and acting more like a monarch than her sister ever does, while cracking more jokes.
Tirion Fordring- Jason Hayes/Glenn Stafford
Stay Awake- Madeon
Do It- Tuxedo
(Not sure why I pinned down Luna for both funk and orchestral, but it makes sense in my head. Somehow. You would all do better than to question my genius ~ ͜ʖ ͡° )
Mag;
World weary cynic? This one's easy. She gets crappy rap music.
After Party- Dynamite MC
Hype Boys- Sway
Eldest;
He does the wrong things for the right reasons. There's only one song for him.
Truth Revealed- Josh Homme

Oh, fuck forgot Bittermann. There's a solution to that.
Bttermann gets this, but saying the name here would spoil it.

All your music sounds like someone is going on an adventure. Where is the navel gazing, I ask you? And are you saying all rap is crap?? Rap is cool and good and peachy keen. I was going to include "Aurora Borealis" by Billy Woods in the Mag section, but it has too much energy.

Rad? Rad.
Sweet character analyses though. Gave me something to think about.
Not going to go through all the characters, just because, well, time, but I'm on a Celestia kick right now so I'll bite on her, so to speak.
+1 to Crucifixus, especially in the context of the story you're writing. Very nice.
+2 to Green Grass, because I expected it not to fit and it's actually super effective, especially this version.
Arcanist, I like Sorrowful Prince but with the Harpsi in there it definitely reminds me a bit more of Luna. Definite +1 for You Have Power though.
If I were forced to, for the Celestia you're writing about I might add June Mermaid, pick a remix. Certain versions do a real nice slide between 'Holy balls I don't think I can hold it together anymore' and 'Screw this I'm getting shit done.'
You've got me adding and readding some stuff to my own listen-while-writing playlist now. Well done. Please do keep up with the lovely horse words.

I don't think all rap is crap, but it's like fanfiction. I can't say i'm listening to rap, i have to say i'm listening to shitty rap, even if I like it. It's compulsive. Same for fanfiction.
All of us are wrong. The answer is Joanna Newsom.
MAG

3313534 Disney has some amazing villain songs. Everyone knows the devil's got the best tunes.

I also think he was implying that I'm more of an asshole than Claude Frollo, which I suppose means I have the best tunes.
