Pixels is getting slammed in the reviews · 7:17pm Jul 24th, 2015

Remember that strange vidoe-game movie trailer I went WTF at sometimes last year?

That one. The one with the hard-light... well, pixels assaulting our mostly harmless blue marble,

Yeah... its' apparently mind-rottingly bad. Total waste of the licenses, the talent and an interesting idea.

I've even heard that its bad by Adam Sandler movie standards. :pinkiegasp:

Yeah, that bad.

27 out of 100 currently at Metacritic.

20% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Just a friendly warning to not waste your money.

Sandler himself just sorta has the nature of being a corrupting influence because folks typecast him as the same kind of person. It's like some villain roles, you think of certain VA's, or like hammil as the joker. And sadly, it ruined the movie, along with many many many other things.

Never heard of it, but since every second fake-retro indie game too to stingy to pay for actual visual direction calls itself Pixel Whatever these days, I probably wouldn't remember anyway.

Sandler is what critics thought Jim Carrey was, until he did The Truman Show and showed he can actually act.

I wouldn't go that far.

He was really funny and even quite heartfelt in Hotel Transylvania.

Thing is, I'm fairly certain that was a passion project he himself wanted to make. While many of his other movies the last few years have been things he's simply done for a paycheck.

And its what I mean, he's got a bad rap around places. I don't have anything against him. If it all, he's, no different or worse than many actors. But for directors, from their standpoint, he's been typecast, and its causing so many issues. I should have been a bit more clear there.

That was what I meant with Hotel Transylvania seemingly being a passion project. Sandler actually cared on that one.

But yeah, he's gotten type-cast in a way. I won't deny that.

You've got a really bad comedy you can't just scrap because you've already gotten investors on a pitch? Fork over enough for Sandler, and he (and more imporantly his fan-base) will polish your turd's opening weekend just enough that the stinking pile won't outright flop.

Sad, but true. :ajsleepy:

I don't know if typecasting is really the word to use when he only ever acts one role anyway, which is the one he does in all of his movies (and, by reputation, pretty much the rest of the time, too.) If he ever manages to turn a production budget enough to have a rejected Twilight Zone episode for a script into an Oscar nomination for himself as well, though, I'm more than willing to eat crow on that.

Aw damn it, I was getting hyped up for that!

Yeah. I watched the trailer and already figured it was going to be a festering dung heap. No surprise on my end

Don't knock pixel art, a lot of it has plenty visual direction.

I'm certainly not knocking on pixel graphics - I grew up when sprite-based games were still state of the art and play enough oldschool roguelikes to know that you can do some pretty great stuff even just with ASCII. Most of the time, though, those fake-retro nostalgia cash-ins absolutely don't do it well.
