Who Builds "The Iron Horse"? Meet the Artist! · 1:55am Jul 24th, 2015

Time for another entry in these production blogs! Last time I talked a little about my editor, GaPJaxie. This time, I'd like to spend a little time talking about my friend and creative collaborator, Colby Green, also known by his artist/gamer handle "Greenfinger." He does the art for "The Iron Horse" and we have an announcement: I've been chatting with him and we've reached an accord - our new goal is to have every single chapter of "The Iron Horse" contain at least one inked and colored sketch! I hope you all are as excited about that as I am! :pinkiehappy:

"Nightmare Night"

Green and I have been friends for quite a few years. Initially, we just met through mutual friends playing "Final Fantasy XI" several years ago. We get along pretty well and chat and watch stuff - Pony and Non-Pony alike - a few times a week. This might especially seem odd considering out backgrounds: I'm an Atheist, he's a Mormon; I mix cocktails and drink like a fish, he isn't technically allowed to have so much as a cup of coffee or tea; I'm a bit of an anime fan with a taste for travel and adventure, he really doesn't care for it much and is more of a homebody.

But that said, I'd still consider him one of my best friends. We still enjoy our pastel horses, enjoy a lot of the same music, have similar senses of humor, and we both enjoy playing video games together to this day. Mostly "Borderlands" and "Skullgirls."

But I digress. I wanted "The Iron Horse" to have its own artwork, rather than swiping from someone else. Something more custom-made to give it a more unique look and feel. Green helped me come up with a few iterations of Turing's design before we got it with the final one you see now:

He specializes in cute things and one day would like to be working in illustrating children's books or maybe doing animation. He's one of several artists doing some work for the well-known MLP Analyst ILoveKimPossibleAlot (or just KP). He got the job with this comic:

He also did this sketch when the author "Undead Robot Bug Crusaders" (a story with a concept I love despite being just lukewarm on the story) asked around for some new cover art. The author declined because he'd already found someone. I'm posting it here so at least someone gets to see what he was planning. To his credit, the author did say he liked it, just that he'd already found someone else. Oh well, here's the sketch:

In the meantime, you can click on the link at the top of the page to Green's DA Profile if you want to browse his work, he tells me he is open to commissions, so let him know. I can also give his email address if you PM me. He just says he's not drawing anything too racy (and that means no porn, no clop, that sort of thing).

So, below, I'll post some of his other work from his DA account as well as his Blogspot. There are pony and non-pony works. Enjoy!

Grumplestia (with some Inspiration from NC Mares)

You always hear about girls and tentacles on the internet... this is Green making fun of that.

Welp, that's it for now. I hope you've enjoyed Green's work! If so, leave a comment for him here or on his DA page. There is a lot more of his other work to see. You might even spot some of his unseen work that he did for me...

Wow, you dropped a nuke on the comments or what :rainbowlaugh:

3266667 Yeah, just felt like the comments weren't all that helpful. Though I did convey to Green your comment about the noses. :twilightblush:

3266682 He don't need to worry about it that much you know  , if he like what he is doing, he can do what he want, but I should start to draw ponies too, because drawing catgirls is not the subject of the fandom :twilightblush:
