Meet Glimmer and Facade, AKA those two Changelings Crimson Shade strongarmed into working for her, here in their pony disguises. I kinda wanted to draw them alongside Crimson in my last blog but ehhhh, she took a long enough time as it was.
Before anyone asks what those bar dealies are on Glimmer's face, I took inspiration from the parliamentarian soldiers, AKA 'Roundheads' of the war of the three kingdoms, see here. The bars are useful for protecting the face from slashing and swiping attacks and in that sense are economical if you want to outfit alot of soldiers with solid helmets but going for full faced helms are too expensive. Its not that great protection wise but its better than nothing.
Her other options would either be a full faced helm and limiting her vision severely or stick with an open faced helm and have a nice delicious target on her face. Seeing as her horn prevented having a useful visor, like what Facade has.
This would be standard 'medium' plate for ponies armourwise.

Looks like some pretty nice armour. Did you figure out any way that the wings could be protected? As they look super vulnerable even when folded.
Also what are the rope muzzles for?
Tails would be a horrible thing to have in battle against grappling opponents.
3149949 The bridles are there for actually securing the helmets to the head without risk of strangling the wearer.
As for the wings no, I couldn't think of a decent way for them to be protected without making them functionally useless. A possible way to make them protected is to take an approach soldiers during the 100 years war did, and tie small plates along the arm of the wings and the outside, to give the limbs a degree of deflection. Generally you don't want to weigh wings down too much since, when flying, they're already compensating for lifting your armoured arse. When you attach wingblades you would largely have to forgo other forms of armoured protection, however.
As for tails you're correct, which is why most military ponies shear them, though its not universal. After all a pony's rear is also the direction of their greatest physical attack in the form of the buck.
As for these two fucklechucks, they're not soldiers, but changeling infiltrators and didn't think that through when figuring out their disguises (that armour, as of this moment isn't real, stab them and your blade is gonna slice some meat). Hilariously, as changeling infiltrators, they regular shear their real manes and tails completely anyway.
Should tell you something about their characters how they forgot to do so to their disguises.
