Pathetic journal names have returned.
Anyway, Las Pegasus kind of frustrates me. You'd think that the number of syllables and it's place on the map (and that freakin' Applewood sign) would make you think "Los Angeles". But, nope, it's Las Vegas. Had to double check before I wrote the last chapter, since Cheesy Sense had to point there.
But, hey, I was aiming for Vegas anyway, because it's easier to associate a magic show with that...
Anyway, I'm nervous about this next chapter because I've only been to Las Vegas once. Even then, it was only a lunch stop on our way to Disneyland when I was 13. I did get to see the inside of a casino--there were rows of slot machines and it smelled like cigarette smoke, and NO none of us were gambling we were trying to find a place to eat--and some of the sights like mini Lady Liberty, mini Eiffel Tower, and some other things I barely remember. We settled to eat at McDonald's that day.
Granted, I only have a couple of paragraphs of Tomato and Silk Shimmer seeing the sights while Cheese is setting up the Magic Expo (funny thing, in my research I found out that there's this thing called MAGIC Expo... it's a fashion show XP). The sightseeing is technically unimportant to the plot I have in mind.
Also, do you suppose there are cloud neighborhoods there? Considering the "pegasus" part of the name, I assume there is. I'm just putting the fun stuff on the ground for all the pony races to enjoy. Also, would the city have magical neon lights, considering ponies?
Eh, I'm just rambling.
I've actually seen versions of the official Equestria map that spell it as both Los and Las Pegasus. There's some wiggle room to be had.
As for the city itself, I imagine it as a hybrid. There are definitely cloud districts to it, but also ground-level ones, especially since it can't be easy to maintain cloud buildings in a desert, even for pegasi. I imagine a fair number of those clouds are in eye-catching and impractical shapes. Casinos and concert halls may have both solid and nebulous architectural components to them.
I recently visited Vegas, it really hasn't changed since you were there last. I think 3099872 is right, it's a hybrid city, partially in the clouds and partially in the air. I think Las Pegasus is supposed to represent both Vegas and LA. I think the cloud part probably does the weather for the western half of Equestria, and Cloudsdale does the eastern half. Applewood is part of the Las Pegasus area, so probably the movie studios are there as well, along with all the glitz and casinos and amusement parks.
