Oh hey, a griffon episode · 6:40pm May 23rd, 2015

Let's see how much I got right.

...Totally wasn't expecting griffon-dwarves and the not!Arkenstone. Hit way the fuck off the mark there.

At least I got that whole 'Anygriffon' thing right.

3091375 The episode seemed to give them a slavic vibe. Although I got a germanic vibe from Gilda's name.

3091384 I'm sorry, Hans, but their magnificent hats have spoken.

I feel like resurrection of Imperial, mighty griffon empire would have been better ending than what we got... but, that's the personal feelings......

3091375 Mybe he was born in French? Not every Griffin is born in their homeland.

And by the way: Am I the only one who noticed Gilda is NOT affected by this Griffin greed? Or Gustave le Grand for the matter? Maybe it is something in the land that makes them greedy.

3091568 Actually... that gives some other ideas. The Griffin King seems the only one in the past who was not Greedy and worked to unite the griffins. Maybe it's something in his FAMILY that prevented him from becoming greedy. And maybe some of his heritage still have this ability.

Just something for you all to think about...

Condensing the mark into a 20 minute episode makes it difficult to hit no matter what you do. Personally I was rather impressed with the episode.

The writers delved into matters of wealth and life. I don't think I've ever seen this done by a children's TV show. It's easy to think our way of life is superior until we're confronted with adversity. A community can easily crumble when the poor go hungry and the only survivors are those who grub wealth at every opportunity they get, as a force of habit. I was surprised and pleased with the messages I saw in this week's episode.

Don't even worry about matching your story with TV Canon. That would be very difficult and probably damage your story. Television screenplays have to be structured very differently and stories don't operate with the same format. My advice is to keep going as you're going and use the world you've thought up to your advantage as much as you can when it comes to your type of storytelling.

3091535 Nah, I would've liked that too.

In all seriousness though, that statue of the last king of Griffonstone looked... pretty suspicious honestly. Firstly it was specifically pointed out by Twilight as being noteworthy, we got a scene of fourthwallbreakingpony playing with it, then there was that little twinkle in the eye thing at the end.

Calling it, last king of Griffonstone was petrified.

And Pinkie Pie ripped off his lower jaw.

3091625 I'd agree... if it had happened to ponies. All we got about the griffons was their backstory, then we saw the shitheap of their kingdom because they lost the arkenstoneIdol, and ponies fix it with their superior ways of pony friendship. I got the exact opposite vibe from the episode. 'These other people have lost their way and their lives are shit, lets show them OUR ways which are better and will totally fix that chronic greed and need for pride and identity they have at their hearts'

3091693 Yeah, well, wanna know something cool? The Princess Celestia is thousand years old tyrant.

Yeah, i know most people don't view it that way, but think. She controls THE SUN, the very life-giver of their world, and she's way too smart not to know how much power that gives her. Anyone not willing to do as she says? cold, hungry deaths to them as their countries never see a sunlight again.....

But yeah, i'm pretty sure that Celestia could have easily helped the changelings with their hunger, the griffons with their depression and other things that are bad, but she's way too used to high-standard pony society she sees every day as ruler of Equestria, she easily ignores the problems of those not directly under her gaze.....

3091693 To know which ethics are better or worse for the selected race we would actually have to know a bit about them. In terms of history and heritage we know very little about the ponies and even less about the griffons. In this regard our standards are simply too high for television series and comic issues to show in the time that the writers have. From an outsiders perspective we could only gauge what is 'right' or 'wrong' based on societal subjective morals and statistical morality.

In truth I'd be lying if I didn't observe and state that the most powerful and influential nations of our world didn't always encroach upon 'less' influential cultures. I suppose this could only be gauged by the amount of damage caused in relation to the overall gain. I don't value independence or 'freedom' if it comes with starvation, and someone once told me that the best freedom I could ever hope for in life is a good guide. I believed them.

Unrelated to this it looks to me like things are going to change a lot in our future. With a staggering increase in globalization and the internet. Governments, society, and our perspective is going to change drastically in the next 50-120 years. Like, we're talking worldwide and massive from what I can see.

3091384 you have it all wrong, and you don't even know it.
Only Russia, Belarus and Ukraine are Orthodox. Rest of the Slavs (including yours truly) are Catholic. And yes, Griffons seamed to me fairly Slavic, but more Central European Slavic, not Eastern European/Asian Slavic.

3091995 Technically, Ukraine is half and half.

3092007 True.

BTW. It might just be my national pride, but the Griffinstone really reminded me some towns and cities in Witcher; and with most of those were based on medieval Poland.

3092017 The Witcher has some weird influences, because playing that I actually had to stop and ask myself ''Is this a kingdom of fucking aggressive welsh people? What the fuck are they doing bordering the notPolish?" kinda makes me want to read the books to figure out what the fuck.

Hit way the fuck off the mark there.

HA! Noob.

JBL

3092017 Poland aye?

*Checks map*

hrmmm

You... wouldn't happen to speak German, do you?

:pinkiecrazy:

Fucking goat demon looked cool though.
3091375 ...You got a French vibe from him? I got a classical Germanic vibe. Y'know. From the Austria-Prussia-Germany era.

3092181 Actually it's any world view in a nutshell, not only religion and most certainly only the Christianity. After all everyone can believe in different things and most of the time they will think that their believes are better. Only a few knows that there is almost never a better or worse, only different.

Ps. I'm Catholic :)

3091995 You forgot Serbia/Montenegro

I still think you should have gone with anybirdie.
