    We Meet Again

Hello everyone! This is a bit of a late notice, but anyway: After taking a year or so off, it seems I am compelled to reintegrate into the herd. My first project is to finish "How Far Away You Roam," the third in a series of short stories featuring Rarity and Applejack. After that, I plan to revisit some of my other

Soundtrack/Audiobook/Cover Art Update · 1:32am Jul 14th, 2012

Hi!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I've signed on a pretty talented musician to compose an orchestral score for the audiobook version of Alicorn, so that's something to look forward to! I'll post links here as tracks are finished, so you don't have to wait. Oh right, cart before the horse - there's going to be an audiobook.

Also, I'm very close to being able to share with you the final official cover art for the story. I can already tell you that it is going to be absolutely amazing!

This isn't it, but of course I do love this drawing. :raritywink:

EXCITEMENT :pinkiegasp:

Excellent! :moustache:

So this is going to be physically published??

:pinkiegasp: fantastic news! I can`t think of many more deserving of adoration and adulation in the literary ponyverse than your fine self.

No, unfortunately that would run me afoul of Hasbro's attorneys. :twilightangry2:

230631

Right. I guess you would have to pretty much change all the characters to get it by them. :ajsleepy:

Sigh.

Let me know if you're looking for VAs--I've done a reading project within the fandom already and would be happy to lend my voice to Alicorn!

An audiobook for Flight of the Alicorn! :pinkiehappy: I'm pretty excited to hear about this! A soundtrack sounds pretty awesome also. Definently sounds like something I am going to download and listen to. I look forward to hearing more about this. Any idea when we will get to know the muscian and the voice actors involved?

The artwork for this story is quite excellent. To think, this seemed like it was going to be a pretty happy fic when I first say that piece of art for this story. Boy was I wrong on that account. Flight of the Alicorn exceeded my expectations in so many ways.

By "I'll post links here as tracks are finished," you mean here on your blog on FIMfic? I assume you don't mean you are going to update this specific blog post, and we are going to have to go back to it repeatedly.

230873

On my blog. You'll know when I update. It's still going to be awhile before the actual audio recording happens, since the story is not even finished yet, but the music will be along sooner.

Thanks as always for reading!

The days I can listen to great pony stories while commuting, are the days I practically teleport to work :raritystarry:

Awesome news man!

Soundtrack? :pinkiegasp:

Sounds amazing.

'Filing off the serial numbers' has a long, successful and mostly hidden history of published stories. I think it will be harder in this case though. First because Ponies, second because Rarity is distinctively Rarity all the way through. If you'd started writing your own character based on Rarity, she could've veered off several chapters ago - but I guess that when she starts to do so, the animated Rarity pops up and tells you 'obviously, I'd never do something that uncouth. Of all the possible things you could've written, this is the worst... etc etc'.

That's very impressive. You have an excellent reading voice. My only concern is that in this case, I would really prefer to have one reader narrate the entire story (as opposed to having several voice actors), and therefore that narrator would need to be capable of doing lots of different voices/accents (not in a silly way, but in the way that good audiobook readers do). Specifically, you would need to be able to do a British-y accent for Fancypants, Rarity's mid-atlantic accent, Khufu's middle-eastern accent, a southern accent, an african accent, Blueblood's prissy accent, and various other voices for various other characters. It's a bit of a challenge, for sure.

234650 Glad to hear ya liked it!

I don't doubt that it'll be a challenge, but I'm up for it: I can do a variety of accents and ranges with reasonable well (Audacity is a wonderful tool for that). The female roles will prove a little trickier, though. A few rough landings on my bike might bring me into the range I need.

234700

Well, I would not expect you to actually sound female, hehe. Oftentimes audiobook readers will simply pitch their voice up slightly or speak more softly. I don't intend for it to be a radio play, just a reading. If you are so inclined, feel free to record some lines in different voices and throw the files in a dropbox folder, so I can hear what you would do. You certainly seem quite capable of doing a great reading, especially if you can do accents. I haven't tried using Audacity for voice effects, but I was planning to use it to throw in the sound effects and background music, etc. It's a great tool.

234836

Oh, that's good to know. Bringing my voice up that high wouldn't require too much trauma--the trick would be getting it back down again.

While I'd love to do some recording samples, I'm afraid I'm a bit tied up at the moment: at time of writing, I'm four weeks away from getting my bachelor's degree, so it's crunch time like I've never experienced. I'll see if I can pull some samples for you from Alicorn or another story, but the earliest I'll be able to get to that would be the end of the week.

235111

Best of luck with your degree. As for this project, there is absolutely no hurry at all. This story is not even finished yet. :raritywink:

Thanks! As for the project, that just gives me time to get a better mic and try to catch up.
