Babscon Wrap Up · 9:43am Apr 7th, 2015

This whole weekend.

Where do I even begin to talk about Babscon? This whole weekend was mindblowing. The panel had a great turnout and a lot of people asked really awesome, serious questions about writing. There were a lot of other really cool things to happen too, like meeting Katie Wayne, making great friends with AnonPencil and Ligerstorm, meeting a bunch of horse famous people (such as Regidar. Talking about writing with him was so fun), and getting souvenirs. There were a few other people I saw from afar, like CapperGeneral, Tara Strong and Sethisto, but didn't get the chance to formally meet or talk to. So that sucks, but oh well. Win some and lose some.

Sadly, our panel was not recorded. So I don't have the video I wanted to give, but I promise that if you imagine 30 minutes of writing advice, combined with 30 minutes of poop jokes, you're probably close to how the panel actually went.

I also got to meet one of my followers on here! I feel terrible that I didn't write down the real name, but I shouldn't use it anyway. His username was Solmist. It was awesome meeting you in real life, bro!

It's time to get back into writing mode and get some work done. It's time to write Something You'd Regret part 5 and finish all these stories I've started so I can release... new stuff.

Soooo, those green letters are killing me, what do they say? :fluttershysad:

It was super cool meeting you too! You've inspired me to start writing greentext shit again. Hopefully next con we can talk properly instead of in the middle of a strip tease at a /mlp/arty :rainbowlaugh:

Hell yeah bro. That would be awesome.

I read this as Bacon Wrapup and I was sorely disappointed.

Seriously though, great to meet you, babscon was indeed fun.

Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. I really hope that new stuff you're planning for will not go into that recent foal porn direction, though. I really like most of your stories, but that sort of thing is just disturbing to me. I still haven't really gotten used to the fact that this sort of thing apparently isn't illegal to publish anymore in the US - and it definitely still is where I live. I'd really prefer something I'd be able to read without having to worry about getting my front door kicked in (or making me feel like I'd deserve it.) :derpytongue2:

That was actually an old story I cleaned up to rehost here. I don't have a young horse story planned at the moment.

Well, that's a relief. Glad to hear it.

Sorry I took this long to reply Flutterpriest, and it is alright to mention me since Saturday's NEIGHhem and BABScon (including last year) itself I been notice by BlackGryph0n and his brother Baasik, a few who did on the show and comic, and have my own Twitter account (@TheSolmist) so all in all I'm open brony and I can't wait for you to come back to BABScon again if you are going?

Glad you had fun!

I'm curious as to what sort of questions you got at the panel. Anything particularly interesting?

Yes, I got some very, very great questions.

Who is your writing nemesis? In which I promptly named Nebulus and Slasher Science and you. Heh. I was kidding of course.

What stories would we recommend outside of our own work? I immediately suggested your work and Exchange, but also supplied the work of short skirts and explosions as well as Nebulus, Bolding and Slasher Science

How to handle criticism versus hate, which was difficult to answer. Namely, there has to be the identification that not all hate is criticism and vice versa. Some critiques actually are aimed to help writers improve, so the goal is to listen to criticism while ignoring hatred.

The difficulties associated with transitioning between perspectives was fun to elaborate on as well as talking about inspiration vs discipline when it comes to completing stories. The crowd was full of questions that were really meaningful, and I hope we were able to come up with some insightful answers for them that will push them to write more. It was a really humbling experience. There were many more, but those were the ones that stuck out the most.

Wow, thanks for the recommendation! It's a shame that it wasn't recorded as I would've liked to have seen it for myself. It sounds like it really was a productive panel.
