(Kudos to those who actually get whats so amusing about this image)

(Actually had a much cooler video with an image of a soviet soldier in the black and white stylised propaganda images of WWII superimposed over the old soviet flag to this same song, but that was taken down, so I'll take what i can get. The irony being this is the current Russian anthem, not the communist one, but not like anyone's going to care enough to notice unfortunately. I DO WHAT I WANT.)

Yeah that about sums it up but with less russians and more ponies, I'm gonna go hid in my bunker from the shippers'. Tis' the season after all.

Have fun and next time use the right anthem:trixieshiftleft: Communism deserve the proper respect.

Communism deserve the proper respect.

Says Ultron to the Monarchist.

:trollestia:2944479 I'm such a heretic aren't I?

2944493 Oh, unbelievably so.

To the gulags with you.

2944580 Close, you're on the right track at least.

2945264 Muhahahahaha!

Amusement. Season Five's on Youtube now. I need to do something before I consider watching it, though.

2944619 Imperial Russian flag or the present coat of arms, easy peasy. Everyone knows that the double-headed eagle is a coat of arms even today for Russia and some other Slavic countries.

2945631 33mins after your comment posted I went on a search

NONE

2948636 It was definitely there. Did you try Google Searching for Episode 1?

2948636 Try the equestria daily post regarding the episode, they usually have up to date links.

2948743 Nvm, found on YT. Dissapointing tbh. This is why I am not a brony

2948743 You also never told me if I got the right answer btw.

I didn't expect such a blatant political viewpoint from FiM. It was interesting to watch. What will they do next, *Fascism*? In all fairness that was a massive demonetization and simplification of one form of government structure. There are lots of flaws within our capitalist society too... what's the proper balance for human beings? I'm not sure... I don't think anyone is.

For now I'm more interested in when we'll get our next dose of grumpy, tormented Irish vampire. Should we expect something of the Monday variety this week?

2951774 While the anti-collectivist vibe was indeed surprising and amusing, I'd say the heart of the matter was the suppression of individuality and the anti-Tall Poppy Syndrome message seeing as Starlight deliberately tried to discourage excellence and diversity of opinion and sentiment in pursuit of a perverted vision of the dominant Harmony philosophy of Equestria.

2951824 True. Although most art is built around the interpretation of a powerful opinion. So much of our art and culture is based around the idolisation and dramatisation of adversity, (i.e. you cant have an interesting story without conflict/enemy/opinion/pain/learning/adventure, and so much more.) It's nigh-impossible to get an unbiased interpretation as they're purely analytical and therefore usually not art.

Starbright was the archetypal villain who suppressed individuality to a point where everyone is just facsimiles of humanity. Dehumanisation and usurpation of human individuality is not a new artistic concept. Just watch Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times, and that's only one example. It's all built upon the fear that authority, corporations, and government don't fully respect our well-being, (which they don't to the extent we desire, but never as much as our art implies.) Why don't we just turn humans into equal working husks? Forget building factory robots, right? All that human intuition and communication and creativity is obviously just wasted potential for our cause isn't it?

The modern message wasn't as persuasive to me as it could have been because it was exactly that; a modern message. The problems we prepare for are often irrelevant to what we have to deal with. Future generations are usually faced with the same problems in different ways. I've begun trying to investigate the intricacies of dehumanisation and the evidence I'm seeing points to the conclusion that our current interpretation of it will drastically change within the coming generations.

2952087 Again I can see where you are coming from, but putting aside the matter that the message had to be simplified for the sake of children, usually this is done in the form of peer or social pressure this is the first show I have seen that warns children of the dangers of entrenched societal conformity in a manner they would understand while still keeping to the show's core message regarding friendship, and judging by the reactions it has struck a number of cords among a diverse range of people, so even if it is less than an ideal address of society in the form of art it was nonetheless competent when considering the target demographic.

However to play devil's advocate, if you want to be pedantic, we are at the greatest danger of societal conformity on the level representated in the show than we have ever been; massive disempowerment of the working and middle classes, disillusionment with the democratic form of government (this isn't just me being a monarchist here, demographic apathy and disengagement is a growing and worrying trend across most western democracies, the modern trend of voters going for extremist parties in europe, disregarding the myriad problems of Europe for a moment, is a symptom and not a cause), media saturation at a civilizational level, oligarchal alliance between finance, state and media we are more in danger of becoming radicalized and ideological blinkered on an unprecedented level through the soft power of influence alone. The social control represented in the show is emblematic of past totalitarianism, but it serves as a wonderful introductory example to teach children of the danger to free thought in present society. Its actually quite clever and will be ingenius if they follow up on this in later episodes, which they can since the Star got away in the end.

2952373 It is a wonderful thing to teach children... if they're not taught to believe that it's just a picture of past totalitarianism to be ignored... exactly as I implied in the previous message. Damn.

Our generation makes you feel a little useless doesn't it? We've all got to focus on our jobs, our studies, our families, our health, finding a job, etc. Yet many of us have access to the internet and a wealth of information and are capable of seeing problems but not really capable (or driven enough) of fixing them. (That's not to say I don't realize just how good my life is. Hell, weren't most lower-class workers of the Medieval ages completely illiterate? Ouch.)

It makes me wonder what exactly is the right thing to teach people? How do you say something that can't be misinterpreted to cause damage or misunderstanding on some level? Back when I studied some creative writing one of my tutors said, "The hardest lesson I learned, as a writer, is that you're a listener. Nobody cares about your opinions. They're reading your work to hear their own opinions." (Take that quote with a grain of salt as he was a pessimistic man who not many people liked, and he'd lost his passion. His methodology was all shaped around commercial/moneymaking strategy.)

Da hell Handy? Did I get the right answer or not? I've been waiting for my cookie for way too long.
