Worst Patient Ever - Update Complete & Parting Thoughts

A year to the day since I published the first chapter of Worst Patient Ever, and as of now the story is at last complete. It’s almost a misnomer to only think of this story as a year-long process. In reality, it’s taken well over that, nearing on two years since I first started to brainstorm, outline, and sketch out how the story would take place.

Nose to the Grindstone - New Story & Story Updates

To my fellow Canadians in the room: Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the changing of the leaves, the cooler weather, and bountiful turkey- and potato- and gravy-related foods. Enjoy a walk through a park or something where the leaves have fallen before the snow comes (unless you're like me and the snow's already here 8D).

    Leaked Episode - "Daring Done"

In case people haven't heard, Hasbro appears to have accidentally leaked next week's episode and now it's poppin' up all over YouTube. I considered waiting until next week to watch it (like I'm sure many are doing), but when I found out it was "Daring Done," that wasn't happening.

    So I watched it.

    And I loved it.

    Spoilers below.

YMLT - February 2015 · 4:02pm Mar 14th, 2015

This is starting to become a trend, one that I hope doesn't stick around for too long. I should have posted this blog two weeks ago.

Oh well. Here are my February 2015 additions to the You Might Like This group!

Genres: Romance, Slice of Life, Human, SunLight
Description:

Princess Twilight has come back to the other world to catch up with her five human friends (and one pony-turned-human friend).
What could be better than visiting Sugar Cube Corner, talking about the latest goings-on while sharing a brew with friends?

This was a short little piece that I enjoyed. Since reading Long Road to Friendship last month, I've been searching for any other SunLight fics of comparable quality. Sadly, there isn't too much out there at the moment, but for now I found myself enjoying Anonymoose's story. There was some fun back-and-forth here between Sunset and the rest of the cast of characters—specifically with Rarity and Rainbow Dash, but those two were made for catty remarks and fun conversation. I also liked how the Equestria Girls Twilight that was introduced here was very much the Twilight we were introduced to at the start of the series (i.e. not familiar with the joys of friendship). Not too shabby a start to the very late list.

An Unexpected Quickie by TwilightUCrazy

Genres: Clop, Romance, Random, AppleDash
Description:

Rainbow Dash and Applejack receive a very unusual dare from a very unexpected source...

This was certainly entertaining to read. The set-up: Rainbow and Applejack are dared by one of their friends in a game of truth and dare to have sex and see who will last the longest. Before, during, and after the promised sexy-times, I still found elements of what makes AppleDash such a fun ship to write. Applejack and Rainbow are both very competitive ponies, especially when they're pitted against each other, and this competitive flare can make for some great stories that stimulate character growth and entertaining dialogue between the two. If you don't mind clop, then I'd recommend reading this.

Genres: Romance, TwiJack
Description:

Applejack's mother was a Manehattan pony who fell in love with Sweet Apple Acres and the farmer who lived there. The gold necklace he gave her wasn't expensive or flashy, but she loved it anyway. Now that Applejack is ready to propose to Twilight with the same necklace, she hopes it really is fit for a princess.

In case anyone reading this is not aware, bookplayer is a goddess. She's a gifted writer, talented in story-telling, characterization, and introducing new realms of magic to a very lore-saturated My Little Pony universe. For those looking to gain invaluable insights into what makes for good writing and for what makes the characters of the show we all adore the characters that we adore, then check out her blogs. The only reason I haven't added more of her stories to this group is because I've already read most of them. Heck, a few of them are in my top favourites list.
Anyways, this story is a sequel to another one of bookplayer's stories (which has been added to this group by Auramane, check it out on his thread), and was delightful to read. From Applejack's angst to the way her parents are written to especially the ending, I was smiling from beginning to end. I'd highly recommend this story to anyone looking for a good romance story in time for Valentine's Day.

Genres: Romance, Slice of Life, Alternate Universe, TwiLuna
Description:

To better herself, Luna has studied Twilight's actions and friendship reports almost religiously. However, she never expected to find the tables turned and be under the microscope herself, nor did she realize that a pony would go so far for one they called friend.

Last addition for the day, then I'll go back into my regular radio silence. Here we have the beginnings of a promising TwiLuna romance by our own ZOMG (ain't he adorable?). While only the first chapter is up as I post this, so far we have Luna struggling with actually making a connection with Twilight. Both Twilight and Luna are wonderfully awkward around each other, which is sure to make for some good times down the road. I'll admit that I actually read this when it was still back in its early drafting stages, and it's been polished up considerably since then, a testament to ZOMG's improvement in the writing department.

Genres: Comedy, Slice of Life
Description:

Ponies expect certain things from a mysterious shop that appears at the end of a lonely side street, and Old Gob does his very best to provide that experience. The candlelight flickers, a thick layer of dust coats items of dark and fantastic powers, and the door creaks ominously as ponies enter and leave with their purchases to discover the costs and rewards. Of course, sometimes the costs outweigh the rewards.

They certainly did for Twilight Sparkle and her friends. So when they manage to get to the shop right before it closes and disappears, they aren't going to leave until they get a refund.

(Fic contains a small amount of comedic TwiJack shipping.)

Any month that has two bookplayer fics is a good month in my books, and boy does bookplayer deliver. Dubious Enchantment is an excellent story, one of the best that I've seen from bookplayer, which is saying a lot. The prose is delightful, the characters are all colourful and enjoyable to read, and the story and writing itself feels like it's something out of Terry Pratchett and/or Neil Gaiman. Comedy stories are, I've found, rarely ever actually funny, but I found myself laughing and smiling throughout the entirety of Enchantment. I don't want to say too much about the story itself, but I will say that the (very) light and funny TwiJack shipping here was the cherry on top. If you don't really like TwiJack or shipping in general, please don't let that deter you from reading this story. It's phenomenal and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes reading period.

Genres: Romance, TwiJack
Description:

Twilight Sparkle is all filled up on weird lately, and that's even before she ends up in an alternate world where Applejack is Rainbow Dash's girlfriend instead of hers. Set during and just after "Equestria Girls."

This story is interesting. It takes place throughout Equestria Girls, where Twilight has to deal with Applejack not being with her. Instead, Applejack loves Rainbow Dash, which creates a bit of tension for Twilight. Where this story really shines, however, is towards the end when Twilight is back with her Applejack. For such a short and simple story, it packs a lot of emotion into Twilight and Applejack and the worries that Twilight has about Applejack (at least in the EqG world) having feelings for Rainbow instead of her. The story is written in third person present tense, which is an odd choice, but once you get used to it, it's pretty fantastic. Interested in (more) TwiJack shipping? Want to see someone's take on Twilight's experiences through the mirror? Then you might want to give this one a look.

Genres: Slice of Life
Description:

The secret to getting through life is finding someone you can be yourself with.

Hey! Terrasora's back! And with a pretty great little one-shot, too!
Seamless here is a fun little slice of life story (no romance, which is rather odd for Terra) in which Vinyl and Octavia start to become friends after Tavi meets Vinyl after one of Tavi's performances and then goes over to one of Vinyl's gigs to chat. The characterization is delightful and it's fun to see Vinyl seamlessly transition from "Classy Vinyl" to "DJ-P0N3." There's not too much to say about this one, really. It was well written, Octavia and Vinyl were engaging, and it's a nice, light story.

Genres: Slice of Life
Description:

Rainbow Dash is trapped in a room, and she can't get out until she writes a letter.

I really don't want to say too much about this story otherwise I'll ruin everything, so I'll be brief. Aragon's a good if not great writer. The story, while nothing unique or groundbreaking, is a very good example of the genre of story that it represents. Rainbow Dash is very in character and her actions are believable and hit home. If you're interested in seeing a story in which Rainbow writes a letter to her Dad, then I'd recommend this one.
