So yeah that was a long ass break wasn't it?
The latest chapter was actually started well before Christmas, I immediately put work on it after the end of the Crown of Winter arc (which by itself is the longest sole arc in the entire story, God damn, even though it basically only occurred over a period of two in-story weeks) but given the entire length of this story and the sheer amount of arcs its likely going to take up, thats going to be particularly negligible (there is at least two going to be currently taking place on Equestria's eastern coast before we're through here, or it could just count as one long one depending on how you look at it, and at least one more after that before Handy pops in for a visit with SPOILERS)
The break was... rather unforeseen and definitely unintentional. It was unneeded as I was currently on a writing high when it happened. The problem was I wanted to write the promised chapters I agreed to do for the winners of my 500 likes competition and it turns out... I am just fucking horrible at writing prompts. Give me suggestions, spout headcanons, write little ideas and I could incorporate them to hell and back, but prompts? I just end up staring at the page and nothing gets done. Can't bloody explain it.

Its strange because I proofread and occasionally help JBL edit some other stories too when he needs a hand, but writing prompts? Hahahaha fuck you Handyman. You may have seen the unGodly length of the Shortbeak chapter and thought it took me two months to write it. It did not, the vast majority of that, easily 19k words, was written in one week when my editors rode herd on me in the docs. And immediately after that, I managed to write the second promised bonus chapter on that same weekend it was released ready and rearing to go last Monday (it had way too much innuendo, but thats what happens when you let JBL go unsupervised, occupational hazard) the only reason you went without an update last week is because I had a discussion and decided to put Bonus chapters on the back burner for when BM is finished, mothballing the mirror pool chapter for a raining month when I hit a dry spell, I then got back to work on the first chapter of the Blackport arc which had been sitting in my docs collecting dust at under 7k words and immediately turned it into the 21k monster it is today.
I'll be honest, I enjoyed writing that way too fucking much, Handy is at his most fun when he is being a colossal penis.
Well that and after the sheer dreariness of the deer arc, it kinda had to start on a light note (and I wanted Thorax and Jacques to undergo some supernatural trauma themselves while Handy was perfectly safe for a change. Those assholes got off lightly last arc.) and also because I may or may not be going somewhere quite dark in the immediately coming chapters, depending on my mood, so it was worth the visible reminder of the lighter spirit of BM before doing such.
But that said, no more bonus chapters. I'll only write silly, non-canon chapters when the mood actually strikes me so they dont actually get in the way and post them in conjunction with proper chapters so no one misses out. I will however be ripping a new one in the fabric of space time with my sorceroustime machine to write those intervening chapters showing Handy training with Shortbeak prior to the tournament. Because those were two, time skipped months and I HATE timeskipping in a story like this. Also something pretty fucking important did in fact happen at that time thats relevant to Joachim's character, I'll leave it at that. However, I'll write them when I write them, no more taking unnecessary time out, its almost St.Patrick's day for fuck's sake.
Also may or may not post my sci fi fic next week as well, since I write that as a form of crop-rotation and to get the sci-fi out of my system before it pollutes my high fantasy.
