Woo, I'm back. sorry I'm late, but I'm sort of drowning in schoolwork. I should be more free next month. Anyhow, story review things! Same deal as last month. One again, wouldn't really consider these proper reviews, and since this group is for things I like, that means I like all of them. If I seem negative or something, don't feel like it's a bad review, it wasn't meant to come across like that. Anyway, without further ado, let's get going.

Also, we do a spotlighting thing for our favourite stories, you can find it here.

Melt by horizon
Not gonna lie, I never read the original poem. That said, I don’t think you need to. It stands on its own as a good poem. It has a good rhythm, and strikes a good balance between being clear, but still having a mysterious and interesting air about it. That being said, it is most definitely a piece of poetry, and if you don’t like that, I don’t think this is the poem to make you like poetry.

Eros: a Collection of Experimental Short Stories by darf (not linked because NSFW)
So, this is a short story collections, so have a mini review of each of them!

With Him
A poignant tale of unrequited love. Though the characters involved are unconventional and may seem unnerving, the story, to me, has more weight because of it.

Enharmonic: a Movement in Four Parts
Probably the weakest of all of the stories, though that may be because I don’t have access to the piano accompaniment. Regardless, an interesting look into an interesting relationship, though lacking the weight of the other stories in the collection.

A Ruby’s Blossom
Erotic My Little Pony Sonnets. That should be all I need to say. No? Fine. This story is a touching little insight into a relationship between two characters. I am not a fan of Sparity, and I don’t think I ever will be, but this story made me tolerate the pairing. The style is also a very nice complement to the story.

On Lips
A very interesting story. An erotic scene told only through dialogue. Personally, I really enjoyed this, the style is very interesting and strange, but still understandable. You never really get confused about who is talking, or what is being performed.

Kiss
Probably my favourite in the collection. A stream of consciousness style story told through the mind of Pinkie Pie. That alone should interest you. Even with this premise though, it remains coherent, and has some really great passages.

Chaos Theory
Aleatory Storytelling. Really interesting idea. Whether it works, however, si up for debate. Personally, I’m of the opinion it does, but perhaps not as well as it was intended to. regardless, it's an interesting experiment with some very interesting moments, definitely worth reading

Benediction by Eustatian Wings
In my opinion, this author has an interesting idea of what constitutes shipping, but that being said, its still an interesting story/group of stories. Some interesting ideas for Equestria and its creatures, coupled with some well written scenes. Not much actual story or plot in here, but I don’t think it really needed that.

A Fact for Twilight by bookplayer
Bookplayer writing Twijack, what’s not to love? Not much to say on this. It’s a simple little story, and an adorable one at that. Twilight and Applejack are extremely well written and their interactions are a treat.

Fit for a Princess by bookplayer
Everything I said in the last review is true, except this one is possibly sweeter. A delightful story, slightly more relaxed than the first, but still never drags. Not much else to say, go read it now.

Seamless by Terrasora
Different and very interesting sides of some of my favourite background ponies. Terra is one of the best writers of these two around, and it’s great to see him back. Heading back to the story, the characters are done extremely well. They generally are not portrayed this way, and watching them interact like this was very interesting. Not much else to comment on.

Plucked from the Air by Norm de Plume (Not linked because NSFW)
Difficult for me to classify this one. It’s an interesting story with well written characters, and a legitimately interesting premise. How strange for a clopfic! it touches on some real life issues that most ponyfic doesn’t bother to go near, and I like it for that. And the sex was good too, not dragging, not too short.

Just a few Things by shortskirtsandexplosions
skirts needs to do more romance. I absolutely adore his writing style, and I am always waiting for more. This story is an adorable snapshot of Rainbow and MacIntosh spending some nice quality time together. As with all of skirts’ romances, the romance isn’t really there, and it feels more like a setup of another longer story. However, both characters are written extremely well (though mac doesn’t talk much so I don’t know if ‘written well’ is really the right turn). He also shows us a side of Dash we don’t normally get to see. All in all, very competently written story for one of my favourite pairings by one of my favourite authors.

and now for my spotlight pick.

Αλεκτρονα by darf
i love everything about this story. it’s been lambasted by some for pretentiousness or inaccessibility, even by some people I know (i’m sorry space, but i had to put this here). whether or not this story is trying to say anything or not, or whether it even means anything is certainly up to debate, but to me, nothing this month even came close to this in how enjoyable it was to read. twilight’s stream of consciousness is a delight, and while some word choices are odd, and sometimes don’t even really make sense, at least to me:
Twilight Sparkle raised both hooves to both eyes and rubbed both with both sighs
none of this detracts from how enjoyable it was. some may disagree, but to me, a piece of art doesn’t have to be trying to say something deep or meaningful to be great. this story has its detractors and people who rate it as pretentious trash, modernist bullshit, or other such slurs, but to me, it is a brilliant story that i don’t doubt i will always enjoy. this story is definitely not for everyone. but for those who like it, or are fans of other modernist writers such as joyce, you will really like it.

Thank you to anybody who decides to read this far. The group could always do with more members and more recommendations. We have a self-promotion thread here and a general recommendations thread here. We hope to come up with ways so group members can interact with us, and in the forums more, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Have another adorable picture
