In January I did a question and answers blog post for Memoirs that was really fun and successful. Today I'm in the position of having some free time so I wanted to give all of my amazing readers the opportunity for more interaction!
What would you like to know about Equestria, my head canon, or Silent Knight? If you comment with a question I'll be more than happy to answer it if I can. If it is more for Silent Knight he'll answer it.
I like to know what you all care the most about and this is a fun way to find out!
Reminder: Crystal Wishes has put out a new romantic comedy story for Hearts and Hooves day. It is really cute and gives the warm fuzzies. If you're into that sort of story I highly recommend Lovey Dovey and the Business Pony. Lovey Dovey is an amazing character!
Art: Painted Wave went above the call of duty and put together a rocking 80s image. 
Memoirs Update: Recently I mentioned that I was looking at the opening chapters of Memoirs for a possible polishing. That is now complete. I polished the first 11 chapters and then one other. There are no new plot elements per se but I did expand on certain topics. The primary one being Silent Knight and Winterspear's relationship. The "mentioned in passing" letters are now actually written out.
Over and beyond that I included an introduction for Iridescence and Miley Hooves. Nothing new there but it is more of a formal entry into the story versus the previous "matter of fact" one.
There is also a fun scene with Cadence and Shining Armor. It doesn't add much value but it was a joke I had in mind. Plus it more firmly establishes that the Cadence in this story is unicorn.

I rather wonder how common the ability to sing comes to ponies as a whole? And if any among the guard are blessed so?
How common are most ponies for 'career jobs' in the guard? Or is it mostly aimed at those whose marks are that way?
Can we actually get silent knight up somewhere to sing? That lovely little image is far too much a tease not at least ask that.
Is canterlot primarily still a unicorn heavy town population wise? Ah, are kelpie myth, legend, or actual fact in what has been seen?

I think he would say that most are run pretty well. It would be unlikely he'd comment on one being poorly ran.

I'm certain there are guards that can sing. Most guards at least know chants and cadences. Full on singing though... well those are probably pretty rare.

There are lots of ponies that join the guard without any sort of "guard" talent. Many go career and some don't. Ponies join for different reasons and the guard offers many career opportunities. Typically though, the ones with martial marks are in for the long haul.

Canterlot is extremely unicorn heavy. It is one of the towns they traditionally migrated to. It is also where Princess Celestia has her Academy for Magically Gifted Unicorns.
Kelpie are more myth and legend.

To be honest Haze doesn't have too much in the way of back story. He is the nephew of some rich unicorn pony in Canterlot. The name was a joke. Haze. Hazing... etc. He was supposed to be an unlikable character.

Runic Phial is complicated. His design and look belong to a friend of mine. I wanted to include him in my story and he was okay with that. I wrote some stuff down and he liked it. Then we went back and forth on crazy ideas and such. As a result Runic is a product of two minds. For big stuff though I ask my friend. I bring him to life in the story but my friend greatly inspires me with how to do so.
As another note, he also inspires a lot of other elements in the story. Things well beyond Runic.

I'll redirect. Cadence is a unicorn for a purpose. You might even call it a greater purpose or fundamental necessity to the story I want to tell. Part of the reason she is a unicorn is so that she would retain her magic. That is equally key.

2793538 Agreed but there was some room for improvement. Rounding out the cast earlier really helped too. It all flows together better. We also made the effort to polish up Luna's middle english. Nightmarish but now it is far more accurate!

2793549 Well... I think those elements are what separate the good from the great, yes? Putting the effort into the little nuances of a piece make it special. What separates Silent Knight from the rest of the fold. There are plenty of guard stories, so what stands out? Having a solid writing base and that effort transform a slice of life into something more. :P Least that's how I think it works.

2793525 Runic's personality was heavily based on a DnD alchemist character i had been wanting run. But Anzel deserves a ton of credit for really bringing Runic to life. He came up with some fantastic ideas that i loved and he just ran with them. He writes him so well that we usually just discuss general ideas and Anzel does the rest.

They've always tried to get me to join one of those guilds. They simply seem to intent on different areas of study than me. I can approve of turning lead into gold but why not lead into marble? There are more than one type of rock and mineral and yet they're so focused on gold and immortality. No imagination in them.

2793668 Unicorns, in general, are pretty great ponies. Some of the noble ones look down on non-unicorns for sure. Beyond that though I've never seen too big of an issue.
