Retalitory reviews... maybe

I think that someponies are mad at me for "killing" off Spike. Why? the reviews for Dragons of Hourglass are worse then for The Last Keeper of Harmony and that book was not written as well at the beginning unlike this one... maybe I'm just reading into it but it is disappointing to see a 50% in comparison to %78 of course not everyone that faved Last Keeper has faved Dragons

I think one of the big reasons is you posted it before you had a real chapter down. I would have personally waited until you had the latest chapter done to publish the story, or just kept it all in one story... That could be a reason why people didn't continue to the new story, as well. TLKoH ended abruptly, and what sort of continued it left a little bitter taste.

As for the whole Spike thing... Its not really Spike anymore. There is still a part of him there, yes, but for the most part, Spike is gone. A lot of the fan base for Spike love seeing Spike grow, and seeing him get moved away for a different character upsets them. I caught some flame for similar things when I started my story years ago, and I have grown to learn why.

Honestly, I had seen this change with Spike coming a mile away, though I stayed because it is still partly Spike, and am enjoying the story itself. I can understand why you did what you did.

2683449 That is quite possible. I Did release a Prologue when I sumbited the story... though I'm sure ppl never read the author notes do they... The shift from TLKoH to DoH kinda of required a new story... I mean we went from a travel story to one that will remain fairly stationary around Hourglass... Also in order to not give away too much of how dragons operated I needed to add GH's journaling aspect... between those I did not feel like it would be wise to remain in the same "book". I kept the Spike tag for good reason. While he's no longer a "growing" character in the story Twilight and Harmony are still there and how they deal with Spike's "death" drives some of their characterization. Twilight for obvious reasons... I have yet to reveal all of Harmony's reasons... I mean how many Spike stories deal with Spike getting permanent amnesia or dieing and how Twilight would deal with it? I like the Spike growing stories but there are way too many good ones of those that I didn't want to go that way....

2683494 well, one way, I think, is to have the journal entry before the start of a chapter.. Like journal1 into prologue, then journal2 into chapter1. But I'm just a random pleb.

Yes, there are a lot of them out there, but I also see a lot that are just bad or start good and head south. As for authors notes, some do some don't, same with comments. It seems like Russian roulette sometimes.
