Word to the wise for anyone wanting commissions · 10:56am Dec 5th, 2014
Let me make something abundantly clear right off the bat. This is a case of being disrespectful and undermining effort.
So the other week I had a dude come to me wanting a commission. Alright, great, I get a bit of pocket money. After giving me an idea to write and finishing writing 4000 words of that idea, it was completed and ready for publishing. By this stage I already had three people edit and proofread the story, after completing what the dude wanted.
Yes, getting to the point. When the dude went back through the document, he wanted me to cut 1000 words and re-write just as much. Ok, yeah, that's a rather annoying thing to deal with, but here's the kicker. After replying to his comments with compromises, he basically ordered me to "Do as I'm told."
Yeah... No. Dude, you have absolutely NO IDEA how disrespectful that is. Firstly, you absolutely DO NOT tell someone to "Do as they are told.", completely regardless of whether or not you've asked someone to write for you. It completely undermines the effort of the people that have spent writing, editing, and proofreading.
Now I have to send three PMs to the people that have given their assistance on this fic and apologize to them that their efforts have been for naught.
Jesus fucking christ I'm still reeling from the disrespect.
Yikes!
Maybe you should have a "terms of service" or something, where rewrites of sections over a certain size require extra money.
In the IT industry we have this thing called "scope creep" which basically means that the boss has changed the requirements after we've done the work. That kind of thing justifies the demand of more time/money to make the necessary changes. Even my commissioned artist has that kind of thing in her agreement. Scope creep justifies asking for more cash.
And oh yeah, your commissioner was a total asshole for saying "don't care, do as I say".
Wow...that next level asshole.
Maybe giving people the option to see what you are doing as you write it is a bad idea. Just give them an estimated time and after they pay you post it.
And as 2635102 said have a "Terms of Services" dimpling saying that if you want any major edit (to the level of this prick and even lower to a degree) that they must pay extra and any disrespect or refusal to pay extra. will mean a deletion of the story with a refund, or a partial refund and you give them the story as it stand or half it so they can do whatever BS work they want todo to it.
Just anything you want todo to avoid ass holes like that. You are an awesome writer! And if someone commissions you, they obviously enjoy your writing and will trust what you will do, and not ask you to change it like this guy did.
Sorry for the long comment. This stuff really irks me to no end. Also where are your commission prices and rules?

This is why you have an army behind you, I live to smite bitches.
2635146 I love my army!
...
*static* what's the status on those F-18s Lieutenant?
sir, they are 5 clicks out and weapons are hot. Estimated 30 seconds until contact.
excellent! Tell them they have a green light to engage. I don't want to keep the general waiting. He can get a bit cranky when he receives delayed battle results.
yes sir! "You are cleared to engage Red team, the general has authorized any force necessary to ensure target destruction."
"Roger. Laying out the welcome carpet..."
For better or worse, people never cease to amaze me.
Something everyone needs to understand is that if you want that much control over a story (or artwork), don't buy a commission. Write or draw it yourself.
Thats just wrong. Some people in this world just have no tact.
Wow, what an asshole...
Fuck this asshat. I put a lot of effort into this story with Alcatraz. (Yes, I
I'm one of the people that helped). I really liked how it turned out...

2635610 Anything to make you happy sir! Lest we invoke your terrible and mighty wrath!
Niiiiigggga. What a whore.
2635119 His asshole level... It's over nine thousaaaand!
(Seriously though, not cool. Alcatraz is fully within his right to not only scrap the commission of, but outright block this jackass)
