Well that took a little longer than I anticipated. Still, I'm quite happy with the results I got, cause I got honourable mention'd!
Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to place, but just being recognized in a competition is a pretty big step for me. I'm not sure how many people pick up writing one afternoon and get such a nice reception after only a few months worth of practice.
Speaking of being wrong, I couldn't have gotten where I am now without the help of my friend and regular pre-reader, BlackFireGallop, who puts up with all of my lazyness and awful excuses (they're true though). Same goes for everybody who ever posted advice or opinions as comments: they're really appreciated. You can't learn as well without feedback after all.
And now that the competition is over properly, I can get back to other stories. I've been working on Vox Veritas Vita, but have hit a little block lately. I still know exactly where I'm going with it and will finish it in due time, but it's becoming a little more complex than I initially imagined. Maybe it's Death Note plagiarism, or maybe it's a statement on what it means to be honest. Maybe it's just me fulfilling me selfish desires to see Rainbow Dash (best pony) as a detective. In any case, I'm still working on that story and it has a few twists and turns left in it, if I have anything to say about it.
I've also been writing a tiny, 2000 word slice of life starring static mechanics and Newton's laws of motion. I'm letting it settle for a bit before publishing, so that I can see anything I need to change with a fresh pair of eyes. I've felt that writing fanfiction clashes a bit with my degree, which is engineering. This little story is me bringing those two parts of my life a little closer together, whatever the result may be. And also, still not AppleDash! I've managed to hold off from anything romantic for almost a month now. I deserve a medal.
But before I get too carried away, I would like to finish translating something for BFG, since he's been quite frankly waiting long enough. Hopefully someday I'll see his stories around here too.
