So... I think I mis-tagged the story... · 12:03am Oct 10th, 2014
Well, as you guys know, I first wrote What I've Become when I had a huge case of writer's block. Now, nine chapters in, I'm starting to think that I mis-tagged the story.
The biggest mis-tag was the Tragedy tag, but I already took care of it.
Also, I know that I've included comedy elements, but I'm starting to think that this story isn't really a comedy per se. It will still have comedy elements throughout the story, but the story so far has gotten a lot more serious then I initially intended it to be.
So what are your thoughts, guys? should I remove the comedy tag? or should I leave it in place? man, I wish there was a catch-all tag for stories that didn't really fit any of the tags.
And no, I'm not going to be tagging this story as random.
EDIT: Until further notice, until I figure out what tags really belong to this story, I'm going to remove them all except for the Human tag. Thanks for the input guys!
It is more of a slice of life than a comedy but it's not exactly a normal slice of life. It's not really sad either. Random tag makes a story seem like it's not supposed to make sense or it's completely wacko.
How about you just put human I think that covers it.
Would You Kindly tell is which story you are talking about?! You have 3! (10 bits (not really cuz I'm broke) to whoever can guess this reference!)
While the random tag is often misused, it definitely doesn't belong here. It might even be more misused than the tragedy tag.
Obviously the story needs the human tag.
So far, I think it leans more towards slice of life than adventure, but it is kind of on the edge there, so it depends where the story is ultimately heading. If it's going to mostly be about Monster-Guy-Whose-Name-I-Don't-Remember-Right-Now adapting to life in Equestria and learning to live among ponies, give it the SoL tag. If it's going to mostly be about those aliens coming back and making him fight for his freedom, give it the adventure tag.
The comedy tag does seem out of place, I suppose. Comedy stories should ideally keep the reader laughing throughout most, if not all, of the story, and this story doesn't seem to be trying to do that. So I'd drop it.
You might also want to consider the dark tag. The story does seem to be lightening up quite a bit, but between Mr. I-Forgot-His-Name being turned into a monster with no free will, suffering some major PTSD, and then almost giving up entirely on life and dieing, things were pretty dark for a while.
And none of the other tags are really relevant.
2521874 sorry, don't get the reference, but I was talking about What I've Become.
To be honest, at this point it certainly shouldn't have the comedy tag. Just because a story has comedic moments doesn't mean it's a comedy, and currently the story is not really what I'd call a comedy.
Still good, though.
2521894 And you call yourself a Gamer... YOU LIE! YOU'RE JUST LIKE THAT DAMN CAKE!
But nice to know I'm currently reading that fimfic!
Though I Should think that obvious to you I'm simply stating that fact for whoever is reading this comment!
In my The Link Between the Worlds, I originally added a comedy tag, but took it down because I realized that the fic wasn't all about laughs.
All i can say is i want more What I've Become chapters
2521894 i was thinking maybe a slice of life tag or a alternate universe tag.
Well..........
My English teacher did say that a comedy does not have to be funny in order to be a comedy. A comedy is a genre in which the beginning of the story is sad, but as the story progresses it ends happy.
What I'm tryin to say is this: a comedy starts out sad and, eventually, has a happy ending.
A tradgedy, on the other hand, is vice versa. The beginning is happy, but as the story goes on, the story ends in some sad way.
I say keep the Comedy tag, but add the Dark tag. that will inform your reader that there are comedic moments, but their is also a serious tone to the story that will make you cry as well. Human tag is a must, but I'm not sure on the Slice of Life. That has always struck me as a tag you would use for stories about every-day-life-lessons-kind-of-thing. This story has lessons, certainly, but it is hardly what I would consider "every day".
I think you need "Adventure" tag here. No tragedy, dark or sad, because all that elements are minor and not key elements of your story. Your story is about hope, kindness and understanding.
