Tragedy tag for What I've Become. · 3:31pm Sep 24th, 2014
Okay, so a lot of people have been confused by the tagging that I've put for my story, so I'm going to clarify some things, as well as remove the Tragedy tag on my story.
The Tragedy tag was there not because something terrible is going to happen, but because something terrible has already happened. I originally wanted to use the sad tag, but comedy and sad are apparently incompatible according to the fimfiction moderators, so go figure.
Anyway, if you were worrying that I was going to kill our poor human, feel relieved.
If you were looking forward to it, you are a terrible person.
I prefer happy endings. Not that terrible things aren't going to happen along the way, but I like to see the heroes overcome those hardships, and come out the conquerer, despite everything working against them.
Just thought you ought to know.
I prefer happy ending, too, but there's something poetic and beautiful about the hero sacrificing himself to save the world. A bitter-sweet ending can be a great conclusion if done right.
I see what you were going for with the Tragedy tag, but it was a good idea to remove it. And yes, the idea that a story cannot be sad and yet have comedic moments is a bizarre one - although I can see the reasoning for making them incompatible, I do think you should be able to use both.
The Tragedy tag really isn't meant for a tragic backstory. Tags are meant to show someone what the overall story is. Comedy and Sad are incompatible because a Comedy story wouldn't have a sad theme, and vice versa. They might have parts that fit the other tag, but the whole should stick to one theme. The Tragedy tag is meant to show that the story as a whole will be tragic, not just parts. From what we've seen so far, it doesn't seem too Tragic, though we haven't really ruled it out either.
2479745 Thats still not tragedy though. Tragedy, at least going off the greek meaning in stories(and the site does go off the greek meaning as far as I am aware), the ending is going to be sad. The hero doesn't overcome his limitations or his enemy.
2480718 That's not always true. A tragedy is just where the sads outweigh the happys. The hero could overcome the villain, but he and those he was trying to protect could die, too. It's still tragic, but with a silver lining.
