Small public service announcement. (Trigger warning for the pictures.) · 10:25am May 22nd, 2014

Saw this, and... well, better it is said one times too many.

And since we are on the depressing but important subject anyway, here's a picture I've been meaning to share for far too long a time...

Not sure how accurate the self-defense is in that pic, but I haven't heard anything about it being outright wrong either. Just for the record.

Utterly shamelessly tagged with my most popular story for maximum exposure, by the way. If this irritates you... bite me.

Do feel free to pass both of these along. Might just same somebody a lot of grief.

Most people aren't idiots enough to try and grab someone that way, but it would reasonably work if they were that dumb.

Fair enough.

Still thought it worth the five minutes it took me to find it in my pictures folder. You know, just in case.

2134877 Do you know what the best way to deal with a guy like that is? A good dose of pepper spray. Seriously, if you're a female and heading out late at night, you should have one attached to your keychain. I don't care what kind of badass he thinks he is, he'll be crying like a baby after getting a good eyeful of that.

Sadly ruined by creeps and gangs around here (Sweden) misusing it when it was new and thus heavily regulated.

Yeah... :facehoof:

For the record and any that might read this, make sure whatever you have is legal to actually carry around.

I really, really hate to even mention that the world is that fucked up sometimes, but you CAN get in legal trouble for defending yourself with excessive force or illegal weapons.

Don't give bastards like that the satisfaction to drag you down with them if possible, but also do what you need to if things comes to that.

2134896 Btw you tagged a story that needs to be updated.

Working on it!

A certain OC is just being really stubborn.

#7 · May 22nd, 2014 · · ·

2134905 That's the problem with OC's.

Not sure about Step 3. A head-butt, particularly using the top of the skull, can hurt like hell and might disorient you long enough to be attacked. I would suggest using a rising elbow. The elbows and knees are humans built in clubs.

bite me

Will do! Even though it doesn't irritate me.

Also, the self defense there looks legit, but it'll only work on someone who's not prepared. You could also go straight for a knee to the nuts; once they double over, kick them in the stomach a few times. Then call the cops

2134879

Pepper spray can be fought through, unfortunately. Same goes for a taser.

2134877

I think the most common way to try to grab women forcefully might be by the forearms. Not speaking from experience, though. :twilightoops:

2135702 Unless you've had years of training, it still sure as hell beats trying to use your hands. That shit makes it temporarily impossible to see.

2137837

Some people are tougher than others. These people get mad when you spray them with pain-juice. You don't need to see to latch the fuck on until you can.

2138593 My brother spent several years as a cop, and he told me that he'd sprayed probably thirty people during that time and not a single one of them, big or no, ever managed to do crap after that. A couple tried, but no one could do shit blind.

2143375

That's reassuring, thanks.

2146172 The other thing with pepperspray is that it doesn't wear off. The only way to fix the shit is to wash it out, though your tear ducts will try to do that as well. That's why even when it's somewhat diluted and hurts less, you're still running blind.

So THAT'S why the early generations had a tendency to cause such horrible chemical burns!

Sorry if a bit TMI, but the why of that was an old brain-puzzler of mine I never actually got around to digging up the answer to.

2146304 They've actually dumbed them down a bit to prevent permanent harm. :twilightsheepish:

2146313

Oh, I know that, but what puzzled me for so long was that a product with such harmful side-effects as early pepper-spray actually got put into circulation.

I always thought it was an issue of lesser evils, since a few burns even on the face are better than the 'shot until dead' alternative.

A bit :applecry: but that's law-enforcement for you. It isn't all rescuing cats and finding lost wallets, after all.

2146323 No it's not. You spend enough time as one, especially in a major city, and you're probably going to become familiar with death. My father had a friend who'd been one for nearly thirty years and the guy said he was so fortunate to have to deal with a murder within the first month. Had to cut open the woman's head to pull out a bullet himself due to how things worked way back then.

2146330

Yeah... :pinkiesad2:

I'm usually heavily in the camp that respect is something earned and should never automatically be given... but I have an exception when it comes to law enforcement.

Anybody that can deal with that kind of crap daily and not go bonkers or bent is OK in my book.

2146344 Well isn't that yet again a way of earning it? They go through shit on a near daily basis to keep the worst of humanity from harming innocent people like you or me, and so you respect that. I believe by definition that denotes that such respect is still earned.

2146365

...Hmm, true, I must admit I can see that distinction.
