Comes the Sunset cancelled...maybe...on this website · 7:07pm Apr 10th, 2014
I used to think I was indecisive but now I'm not so sure.
On Sunday, or Monday, I decided to cancel Comes the Sunset. I wasn't enjoying it as much as I was How the Sunset Sparkles or Valiant and I had an idea for a much smarter, leaner sequel to a rewritten, lighter-hearted Vengeance of Dawn.
Out of courtesy, the first person I decided to tell about this was Sir Viper on fanfiction.net, who has been assiduous in supplying suggestions for Comes the Sunset. He was not too happy about it, especially since I hadn't gotten to his OC yet, and convinced me to keep on going: there were, after all, still some scenes that I wanted to write, like Sunset alone in the throne room of Canterlot, betrayed and abandoned, with only Pinkie the court fool to council her .
However I still had this other idea, but then I realised that just because I posted my fanfics onto two sites didn't necessarily mean that I had to post the same fanfics onto both sites, so here is what I'm going to do.
Comes the Sunset will be cancelled on fimfiction. I wish to thank The Albinocorn and Starlight Nova for their fine pre-reading work, it was very much appreciated and I apologise for making you read some very long chapters of what wasn't always a great story. I also want everyone who kept reading up to this point, especially Harwick and Spiritus Arcane. However, it will continue to completion on fanfiction.net, where it can be found here if you are interested in what happens.
Once How the Sunset Sparkles (or possibly the sequel) are finished, then I will possibly go over Vengeance again (the original of that will remain on The Pit, or as I keep wanting to call it since Game of Thrones S3, the Ladder, as well), either as a rewrite or trying to make it different enough to slip it past the mods as a new story, prior to a sequel that is more in keeping with the original. If the fandom is still alive by then.
Or maybe I'll change my mind if you all shout loud enough, but I very much doubt that that will happen.
1. Will me and The
TrollAlbinocorn continue to be your prereader?2. What is The Pit?
3. What is this other idea?
Well that's a shame. I thought that your current re-write of Comes the Sunset was interesting and entertaining.
1998372 Don't think I didn't see what you did there.
Well.... darn. While I'm glad you still plan on continuing it, I'm sad it won't be on fimfic any longer. I suppose I can't stop you... well, I could... but it might border on questionable morals and such.
Well, as long as How the Sunset Sparkles continues, I can't be too mad at you.
...Wait, how are you writing this? I thought I gave a heart attack with that last chapter!
1998557 Sorry if I offended you, but you have trolled me twice. (not that I dislike your sense of humor) And you might want to say that last part in another, different comment that isn't a response.
Man, I hate to hear that you are discontinuing Comes the Sunset on Fimfiction.com. I follow this story on both here and fanfiction.com. So really cancelling it here won't mean I will lose the story. However, the more places you have your story, the more people who read it. Truly you should not feel upset about people who give your story a down vote or troll comment; they happen and always will happen. You will not please everyone with your story, there will always be those who simply do not find it to their tastes and that is to be expected.
Though I won't miss out on this story, I am following it closely, I do hope you keep it here as well as fanfiction.com.
Have fun no matter what you do. Cheers!

1. If you want to be. I wasn't sure if you still would, but if you do I'll happily accept your help.
2. Fanfiction.net is also known as the Pit of Voles or just The Pit, which I think is a reference to the poor quality.
3. Instead of being turned to stone, Dawn goes into exile in Grevyia where she redeems herself a little. Meanwhile, the story of the sequel is that, instead of invading Equestria, Sunset arrives at the head of a nation of refugees she claims to have rescued (she has, to be fair) who want to settle in Equestria...but to retain at least some of their independence from Celestia's rule; it's like the Roman term Foederati, where they would settled barbarian tribes along the Rhine and let them govern themselves in exchange for fighting other barbarians. Sunset is appointed their ambassador.
Sunset's plan is that, just as the Roman Foederati corrupted the Roman Empire and brought it down, so these proud warrior ponies will corrupt Equestria and rot away at the structures of it sufficiently that she can take power without massive war and bloodshed. But Celestia, delighted to see Sunset again but suspecting a trap, appoints Twilight as her ambassador in the hope that Equestria will corrupt Sunset's allies with friendship and peace. So it's a story of Twilight and Sunset playing chess with one another, while Sunset's allies buck against her leadership and Sunset wrestles her own feelings of joy at just being home again. It would be a more subtle story than Comes the Sunset, with a lot more interaction between Sunset and Twilight, because the thing I really regret about Comes the Sunset is the decision to stuff Twilight in a box for most of the story where she can't interact with Sunset.
Of course you might say this is a worse idea than the one I have now, which is why (since you ask) I haven't actually set the status to cancelled just yet.

I got better.
Like I said, thanks for all your help in the editing and How the Sunset Sparkles will definitely continue (like I said, I have a sequel idea for that too). Although who knows, if Starlight Nova tells me my new idea is awful (if you want to have a look yourself it's in the reply below) this might all turn out to be irrelevant.

Aww, thank you. Now I'm so confused.
1998904 Oh please, it'll take more than that to offend me.
2000695 And I wouldn't say it's a worse idea. It's more politically intriguing and sets up more room for character interaction and plot development. But i've always been a fan of large, epic battles.
2000695 Of course I still want to be your prereader! As for your other idea, it sounds nice, but I think that you should keep the story the way it is.
2001731 I agree wholeheartedly.
