State of the Writer, April 2024!

    It's another boring one! I ain't wrote nothin'! :B

It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

State of the writer, March 2014 · 5:51pm Mar 31st, 2014

I hate it when these journals collide with fic recs, but I have no one to blame but myself. :|

I don't think I have much to report. Despite having begun the Hot Shot and Hugh Jelly sequel (it's called You's da JaAm Fours), I kinda pooped out on it and didn't actually finish any writing this month.

The other big project I was working on was Epic Unicorn History Chapter 3, and I hate to start stretching things out again, but it's stalled. Well, it was stalled. I honestly got stuck on it for the first half of March (I think I blogged about this at some point), and didn't end up fixing what was wrong with it until such a point as I couldn't really work on it. I spent the last two weeks cleaning the house in a major way, not to mention fighting some depression in there.

The fact is, right now my life is going through major changes. Tomorrow, I have a meeting with someone and it's likely going to determine the path I take for the rest of my natural days. I'm talking about getting a job, though more likely it will be "go back to school for two years, then get a job". I don't know what all this is going to entail, but most likely there will be some major changes coming, in the "I don't have free time anymore" vein.

I really detest that. Why is it so hard to have free time and also take care of one's needs? I need free time for writing, dammit! Anyway, I can't make any sweeping generalizations as to what will or won't change if x, y or z happens, but this is the official heads-up. And anyway, after tomorrow, I can get back to writing and I hope to kick EUH out sometime in April, barring the things that always get in the way.

I've also been thinking a lot about non-pony writing. I mean, someday I'm going to have to get back to it. There's only so much I can learn from fanfiction. I've found myself thinking back over some old series ideas -- my last big writing phase before ponyfic involved imitating anime -- and adding things into them. Well, when I'm not being thoroughly disgusted at myself for the horrible plots I came up with. (And I'm not even talking about the one where a guy has to have sex with a bunch of women to save the world.)

I dunno what my point is. Have some stats, because I feel like giving them. You can stop reading now if you don't care. :V

ДØЯP cleared the Threshold after a month, not quite hitting 200 views. Discord's Deli of Chaos made EQD, pushing it up to almost 1k, which is awesome. I'm very pleased at the number of people who've been thoroughly flummoxed by that story. :3 Snowdrop and Nyx Get Drunk and Make Out has surpassed 1k, as have Treehouse and Chrysalicksy.

Dinky's First Kill is past 5k and remains my top-rated story on the site. Twilight Sparkle Loses Her Wings has surpassed 2k and My Full-Sized Goddess Horse is nearly there. ACT OF WILL is currently sitting at 2727, which amuses me. The Elements of Awesomery is just over 3k, and Dance 'Til We're High has been creeping, inexorably, towards 10k since the beginning of the year. Soon. c.c

Meanwhile, Like a G5 continues to languish with a paltry 144. :(

And speaking of my top-rated fics, Whisk is up in 4th place, which is awesome, and the top ten is rounded out by Treehouse and Civil Twilight, both of which surprise me. But then, it does rely heavily on votes, not so much views, so that's a good thing. :) I can feel good about what's in that list.

I can also feel good about legit trolling people with my trollfics. :V Because that happened this month and it was fun. That's all I have to say now!

I still have fond memories of Whisk, My Full-Sized Goddess Horse, and Civil Twilight.

Read the one that I blogged about. It's highly unique. You should write about it. Yep.

I'm seriously surprised that Dance 'Til We're High hasn't reached 10k views. It's one of those stories that I thought was extremely popular, especially being on EqD during its glory days.

Is this what you were trying to tell me on my profile? :B

1969949
Had I put it on Fimfic back when I first posted it, it likely would have gone way over 10k by now. And it's still my most-viewed story, so really I have nothing to complain about.

1970280
Yeah I don't know how I got there.

1970280
True enough. It's good that it's not as criminally under-appreciated as the FiMFiction version of George Pollock Jr.'s Tales.

Also, I'd like to second 1969347's recommendation, particularly because I think RUN has the best description I've ever seen on a story on FiMFiction.
