A Question To Those Who Read The Carrot Dog Fight · 5:47pm Jan 16th, 2014
Do you guys think it's funny enough for a Comedy tag? I think it's funny in parts, but not as a whole. However, I did get a few comments saying that they thought it was amusing.
What do you think? Does it count as comedy?
I'd say so...
I was smiling for the entire thing, even chuckled at a few parts.

I started editing from the bottom (which is a habit of mine to help me spot errors without getting wrapped up in a story) so.. I hate to admit this, but I only got to see the last three pages of the story before my machine died and had to be reformatted (Makes me wish I had backed up, well, ANYTHING.)
And my tablet or phone won't handle gdocs, so.. No clue!
I did think the ending was cute, for what it's worth. Not full-blown comedy, but slice-of-life cute.
I was right when I predicted this to be a unique entity. I personally don't think comedy tag is required. It's pretty much the definition of a slice of life story, albeit with secretly sentient birds involved. It's disturbingly show-true, especially with that last bit with Spike. Seriously, this was something that feels like it would used for the show itself given the right alignment of planets. I hope it gets more views later on; the story deserves more attention.
1724861 Well, thanks for that. I didn't think it was really funny enough to be a comedy, but people were kind of reacting like it was. Since I'm primarily a comedy writer, I thought maybe I'd put too many jokes in or something. Not that I'd mind if it ended up as a comedy, but that's just not really my feeling from it.
I don't know about "secretly sentient", though. The animals in the show are pretty aware. They just can't speak pony. That beaver clearly understood Applejack in Keep Calm and Flutter On. Most of the animals seem to be able to understand the ponies. The pet participants certainly could when Dash was running auditions.
And yeah, the reception was a little underwhelming, but that's how it goes sometimes. It had every opportunity in world, as it was on the front page for hours when 1900+ users were on. I guess Spike vs. the birds just isn't all that popular. It's fine, though. I really like this story, and I know other people do to. It might find an audience one day.
1724742 That's pretty much how I felt about it, too.
I enjoy it, but it was not an epic laugh out loud fest. Depends upon how funny you consider "comedy" to be. I think it could use the tag just to drump up attention, that said.
1727306 I'd like that, but it would feel like lying to me if I put a comedy tag on there when I don't really feel like it's comedy. If a majority of people had said that it seemed like comedy to them, I might do it. However, most people here agree with me that it just feels more slice-of-life-y. I'm just going to leave it as is.
1728443 Whichever you feel stays most true the story is the one I would advise. In this case I do have to agree I don't think it was the focus.
