State of the Writer, April 2024!

    It's another boring one! I ain't wrote nothin'! :B

It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

State of the Writer, 2013 · 11:03pm Dec 31st, 2013

First, the big news: as of right the fuck now, Epic Unicorn History Chapter 2: Epic Laughter is on its second draft and has been sent to my editor. Thank you everyone for your patience I told you this was happening and with luck, it'll be out by the end of January. It's about half the length of the introduction, so hopefully that means it won't take as damned long to do everything.

So, let's talk about this month first. I, ah, didn't finish anything. :B My writeoff entry, Lonely Adaptation, took second place and will likely be treated as all my other entries have, which is to say neglected for other things.

This has not been a good couple of months for writing, and the problem is Pokemon. No fooling. And rather than playing it less, I'm finding ways to play it more while doing other things so that I can use my free free time for writing. So far, it's working! I mean, I wrote a good 5k words of epic beards on Friday and Saturday, editing it today. I'm primed to start working on other things while EUH is being edited. That means The Clock Is Ticking, which I believe I actually put some work into this month, Faithful and Strong, my seekrit crossover which I'm currently calling Above and Beneath (that's about the fourth title change since I came up with the idea), and a Marvel's Agents of SHIELD crossover that at least one person has seen the first scene to, not to mention Fluttershy Plays Whack-a-Mole. It's anyone's guess as to whether I actually put in any work on any of these though, because there's gonna be another writeoff next week. D:

Speaking of writeoffs, I've gotten involved in a whole lot more shit than I think I can reasonably deal with, once again. AugieDog is running a Luna contest, but I find I have very few ideas starring her, so I may have to hold off on that one. I already dumped my ponderings for the Crackship contest, and there's one for Spitfire that, well, I've got a few good ideas and it doesn't end until March, so maybe it'll be doable. Not to mention Worlds of Power, which ends at the end of January and which I still want to do. I feel like if I just sat down and reread my copy of Mega Man 2, I'd have no problem kicking out a short novel of ridiculousness.

All right, so what about this year? I have read a lot of stories. I have posted a damn lot of blogs. I've gotten up to 370 followers, which is so incredibly awesome, and thank you all for sticking with my unreliable ass. :D I've kept The Elements of Awesomery afloat, though I'm not sure when I'll be doing the next installment, and added an epilogue to Things Rainbow Dash Doesn't Like. I think I might have been featured on a podcast once. :B I've written 16 stories, two of which are not complete, and at least one of which needs a significant rewrite, and that doesn't count all the in-progress stuff from writeoffs. There were actually only 8 this year, including the most recent, for which I produced 10 stories. I got my first wins, though they were against very low turnouts; I'm still waiting for a win against a solid dozen or more but that is not going to happen if Pascoite keeps entering. I entered the seemy worlds of bat ponies and Fallout: Equestria side stories. I started my first honest longfic ("honest" because let's face it, Scope of Love is never happening). I riffed on My Little Dashie, Twilicorn, gun control, Attack on Titan, Yu-Gi-Oh GX and Pokemon X. I explored arachnophobia and the dark voices that lurk in the corners of our minds.

I'm kind of proud of myself. :O

I don't know what else I can say, save that I'm not goin' nowhere and I'm not gonna stop writing any time soon. I can't guarantee I'll put out a lot (though 26 stories in 12 months is pretty damn awesome!), but Imma keep plugging away.

Here's to 2014 and the promise it holds!

Yes, I hope that this next year will hold an innumerable amount of awesomeness from the fandom.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD crossover

I am a huge comic book fan, so I am super excited to see this! And the show is pretty awesome as well! :pinkiehappy:

>New EUH

Woot! Guess I'd better get on that.

>Augie's contest

I was just going to ignore that competition, like I do so many others... but then I started thinking about how a fic idea I'd previously rejected might work with Luna as the main character, and realized I could use her to solve all the problems that made me reject the idea in the first place. It's probably better than 90% that I won't write it anyway (time, energy, it might still turn out to be a stillborn concept for as-yet-undetected reasons), but now I'll feel guilty if I don't. Dangit, Augie!

It's a concept I can't get out of my head, so sadly it will only be accessible to people familiar with the show. :B
