AMA Results · 3:26am Dec 8th, 2013

And now for the blog post almost no one has been waiting for with baited breath...

The answers to my AMA!

Because I'm obsessive compulsive, I will answer all questions in order received.

Peace

1: Do you like sandwiches?

Yes, I do like sandwiches.

2: I'm waiting for an answer to the previous question. You're gonna eat my sandwich, and you're gonna like it...right?(question mark, so it's a question)

Yes, I will eat your sandwich, and I'm sure I will like it. I have yet to come across a sandwich I didn't like... Well, except for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I don't like peanut butter. And that one egg salad sandwich I ate when I was 8 or so. School cafeteria food is just awful.

3: Did you choke on the sandwich? I hope not, this wasn't the only course!

No, I didn't choke on the sandwich because I know how to swallow.... That sounded less weird in my head.

4: Eat this potato soup, then tell me how it tastes?

Sorry, I don't like potato soup. I really hate soup. It's not real food! It's a bowl of water with stuff floating around in it! I have to eat like more than two cans of those Progresso soups to feel full.

5: Time for dessert! You like brownies, right?

Oh yeah! I love brownies! I love chocolate in general probably more than is healthy. Especially cookies. What if they combined a brownie with a cookie! That would be so awesome!

6: Now, here's the question that's behind all these other ones. How do you like my cooking? :twilightsheepish:

You're cooking is great for imaginary food that you eat over the internet.

1. Who's your favorite and least favorite characters in MLP?

For the most part, Twilight Sparkle remains my favorite character on MLP. Mostly because she reminds me of myself. I too am a bookish introvert with few friends outside my immediate family. How much she grows through the course of the show and all the friends she's gathered gives me hope for myself in that regard. However, Twilight's ascension to alicorn princess-hood really bugged me. Mostly because I still don't understand why it had to happen. Especially now in Season 4 we see that Twilight as an alicorn hasn't really changed much about the show or herself. Why did she need to become an alicorn?

In case Twilicorn goes south in any way, I do have a back up favorite. And that is Fluttershy. Like Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy reminds me of myself as well. I can also be rather shy and introverted and unsure of myself. My family, friends, and a few of my coworkers have complained that I have difficulty giving them a straight answer, much like Fluttershy does. She says "maybe" or "I don't know, whatever you want to do is fine." I have often done the same. Most of all though, Fluttershy has a dark side that she represses beneath her shy demeanor that sometimes explodes catastrophically like in "Putting Your Hoof Down". Much like myself. She also gives me hope that I can be as kind a soul despite my issues. I think however the best reasons why I and my fellow Bronies like Fluttershy so much is best encapsulated in this video I found:

Fluttershy truly is MLP's answer to Batman!

And one more thing.

Also, pony Fluttershy is just adorable!

And Equestria Girls Fluttershy... is pretty hot. Especially in that tank top. I would hit that if I were one to hit things like that. I'm not because I'm a mother-father gentleman.

I will also add that my favorite Background pony is Derpy Hooves.

As for least favorite, my least favorite recurring characters are Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. With a passion I hate those little b!cthes! That's right. I just called them b!cthes. That's how much I hate them! Why do they have to be so rude to the CMC!? What did the CMC ever do to them? Nothing. I hate people like that!

My least favorite non-recurring character is Prince Blueblood. I have a great respect for Rarity because I highly appreciate generosity. (She technically isn't even third favorite pony though, but I love all of them pretty equally.) And Blueblood was just a jerk to her on what was supposed to be her Best Night Ever. You don't do that to Rarity, you royal a$$! I actually have plans for a story sometime in the future that depicts Blueblood as a conniving sociopath plotting to take over Equestria who feigns ineptitude so everyone would underestimate him.

2. Who's your favorite and least favorite characters in DW (can include favorite and least favorite Doctors)?

For those of you who don't know, "DW" refers to Doctor Who.

Ooh, that's a toughy. When it comes to the Doctor, I can't decide my favorite between 10 or 11. As for least favorite Doctor, that would be 9. He was okay but compared to all the other Doctors, he sticks out like a sore thumb. It's like they decided to start the New Doctor Who with a Doctor who is really unlike the Doctor. Outside the Doctors, my favorite is probably Commander Strax. His penchant for suggesting the most violent, militaristic solutions to problems is just so amusing. I will also add that I am aware that a lot of people don't like Martha, but I've never quite understood why. She was fine for me.

3. Which showrunners of MLP and "New Who" do you prefer? MLP: Lauren Faust vs. Meghan McCarthy. DW: Russel T. Davies vs. Steven Moffat.

I've never really been one to pay attention to showrunners. I'll say Lauren Faust for MLP because I lean towards being an originalist in most things. For DW, I will though say Steven Moffat because it seems like the most interesting things have been going on in DW during his time as showrunner.

4. What's your favorite and least favorite episodes of MLP?

Another tough question. I still like to believe there isn't an episode of MLP that I don't at least like. Least is not too hard. It might be clear by now that I have yet to get over Twilight's alicorn ascension in "Magical Mystery Cure". I would have also said "Keep Calm and Flutter On" but seeing what they might be doing with Discord this season almost makes it worth it. At least more worth it than "Magical Mystery Cure". Favorite is really hard. I guess "A Canterlot Wedding" because of my own obsession with marriage. It also introduced us to Queen Chrysalis, who I think is a pretty cool villain. Especially how she appears in the "Return of Queen Chrysalis" arc of the MLP comics. However, I'm going to say my favorite episode is actually "The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well". Because when I was a youngling, I used to watch Batman: The Animated Series and Darkwing Duck and I like how they're referenced in this episode. For me, the nostalgia factor trumps every other factor! I also really liked "Feeling Pinkie Keen" because it reminded me of John Paul II's encyclical Fides et Ratio.

5. What's your favorite and least favorite episodes of DW?

Another really tough question. Like MLP, I don't feel there is a DW episode I don't at least like. I will say my least favorite DW episode is "Love and Monsters" most because it doesn't focus enough on the Doctor, the Abzorbaloff was way too disturbing, and the ending with the Elton guy and what's left of his now girlfriend was really weird. I know "Blink" also doesn't focus on the Doctor that much, but it introduced the Weeping Angels, the scariest motherbuckers I ever did lay unblinking eyes on! Favorite episode, despite some of the things I felt was wrong with it, I'd say my favorite episode is "The Day of the Doctor". Outside of that, I'd say either "A Good Man Goes to War" or "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship". Both because they display the 11th Doctor's habit of gathering these coalitions of helpers around himself. Almost like his own Elements of Harmony. And "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" because of the title. I also really liked "A Town Called Mercy" because of it's religious undertones.

6. What are your opinions about Rule 34 ponies? :pinkiecrazy:

I admit that it was only until recently after I saw this video from AnY Pony that I discovered that the so called "cloppers" use Rule 34 pony material to... Let's see this can't be NSFW... Um, commit the Sin of Onan. That is just 19 different kinds of wrong! And I do not condone it. Having said that, I have read fanfics here of romantic, but sexually-charged nature. Like Steel Resolve's Green and DawnFade's University Days. And I admit it can be done pretty well. I just don't like things that are too graphic or meaningless. But an established romantic atmosphere really does it a lot of good. I steer clear from Rule 34 fanart because it's too much like pornography for my tastes, and I try to stay away from that.

7. How many seasons do you think MLP: FiM will get before inevitably coming to an end? :pinkiesad2:

I admit though that "Magical Mystery Cure" would be a lot better in my eyes if Season 4 was the last season of MLP. However, thankfully, that does not seem to the be case as of yet. I'm going to guess that there will be six seasons. Mostly because I figure you have three seasons where they learn about the basics of friendship, and then Twilight becomes an alicorn princess, and then three more where they apply what they've learned. I don't think that will be completely the end though. I would like to see a spin-off after MLP ends, maybe about the CMC going to high school. (I once read a fanfic like that which was really good.) Also, I've always theorized that Equestria Girls was made to test the waters for a feature length MLP film. So, I'd like to see that around the time MLP comes to an end. And then they could make more films if it does well enough.

8. If you had the power to take any show, cross it over with MLP, and make said crossover an actual show: which one would it be (you can also list honorable mentions)?

Honestly, I'd like to see Doctor Whooves made into a show! I think I once heard of a comic that crossed-over Doctor Who and Star Trek. So, maybe they could even do it as a comic! Someone do it already! An official MLP/Doctor Who crossover! Honorable mentions: They'd probably never do it now given that it's most likely canceled, but I wouldn't mind if the Hub did a MLP/Dan Vs. crossover. It'd be like how years ago Nickelodeon did a crossover between The Fairly Oddparents and Jimmy Neutron. It would also be cool seeing the most recent incarnation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover with MLP. I'm pretty certain Mikey and Pinkie would get along really great.

Doc Perseus gets props for some really tough questions.

What's your take on alicorns in stories?

I am aware that an alicorn OC in a fanfic is often a sign that the OC is a Mary Sue. I haven't come across a story like that yet. I have yet to read Past Sins. You know before Lauren Faust left MLP, they were working on "Canterlot Wedding" and Cadance was originally a unicorn. It was after her departure that Cadance became an alicorn. Lauren Faust originally intended for Celestia and Luna to be the only alicorns in Equestria. I know it was her intention for Twilight's destiny to be as Celestia's successor. But she did have some reservations about Twilicorn. I'm not sure how that would have worked though. Anyway, in accordance with Faust's intentions, I believe that alicorns are relatively rare and should not appear in a story without a very good reason. Stories like this include Ponky's The Sisters Doo and Through the Looking Glass and What Pinkie Found There which features an alicorn sultan of an Arabian style country and reveals that there were originally six alicorn princes and princesses. And there's Sharaloth's Harmony Theory which features a royal family of pseudo-alicorns that rule over one of nations that used to be Equestria a millennium in the future. It makes sense in the story.

Who is best pony and why?
Who is worst pony and why?
Favorite episode and why?
Least favorite episode and why?

See the answers for Doc Perseus's questions on favorite and least favorite pony and favorite and least favorite episode above.

Favorite story you've read on this site?

Oh, that's easy. Tangled Roots by Bad_Seed_72!

Actually, no sorry. But it is one of my favorites. But if any of my readers haven't read it, you should totally read it! My favorite is definitely My Little Dashie by ROBCakeran55. It is the only MLP fanfic I've ever read that made me cry! All my favorite stories cause me to have some kind of emotional response, but that one was the strongest. Beyond that's it's kind of tricky. It's either between Doc Perseus's Doctor Whooves series and DiveBomb's Riflepony series. I'd highly encourage you to watch Doctor Who so you can then read Doc Perseus' Doctor Whooves stories 'cause they're awesome! And I know how you feel about sequels to My Little Dashie but I think Doc Perseus's sequel Father of a Rainbow is really good.

Funniest story I've ever read here goes to The Many Secret Origins of Scootaloo by defender2222.

Favorite non-pony story/novel?

That's definitely J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. That's one of the reasons I enjoyed "Daring Don't". More on that later.

Has anything on this site really rustled your jimmies? If so, when and why?

I find FIMFiction's policy against metafiction to be arbitrary and irrational. It's been going on almost a year, but last December, I published my first MLP fanfiction on Fanfiction.net called Pinkie Pie Doesn't Like My Fanfiction. It's based on an idea for a story I've had for a long time where an author and a character in a story get in a fight. I got really good reviews over there and from Doc Perseus over here, but I can't publish it here because there's no way to make it not meta! I tried reworking it as much as I could but it was still rejected like three times and one of my early drafts here was deleted.

Favorite food?

I'm from a Hispanic background. My mother is from Colombia, and my father is from Uruguay. My favorite food is a Uruguayan dish my mother has become adept at. We call it a milanesa. It's consists of a steak or chicken cutlet covered in bread crumbs, dipped in a mixture of egg, milk, salt, pepper, and oregano, and then fried. The closest thing I've found to it in the Anglosphere is a chicken fried steak. (I don't know why they call it that.) So I guess you can call it that as well.

What kind of music do you like?

I'd like to say it's Christian music, but I've read Christian blogs lamenting how bad in quality Christian music really is. Christian musicians do it for the glory of God and not money so there really isn't any market factors to act as quality control. There was a point I was kind of into country music since it sometimes it could be the most religious of the secular music genres. Mostly Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and Toby Keith. These days I'm usually into whatever I hear on the radio a lot that seems catchy to me or whatever is going viral on YouTube. I still gravitate towards the fringes of the rock, pop, and country spectrums. Like Bon Jovi. (I'm from New Jersey.) These days my favorites are "Royal" by Lorde and "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus. (Which is weird because I really don't like what Miley Cyrus has become.) But still "Gangnam Style" and "The Fox" will always hold a special place in my heart.

What are you favorite TV shows and movies?

All time favorite TV show is definitely LOST! It was just the most amazing thing I ever saw at the time. It's the kind of show that comes once in a generation and so it'll be another generation before we see a show like that again. My favorite shows these days are Grimm and Once Upon a Time as well as its spin-off Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. I've also become rather fond of the reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I used to watch the 85' series when I was a youngling. And as much as a lot of people don't like it, I like Agents of SHIELD too, because it's based on the Avengers and it's made by Joss Whedon. I've always been a fan of Joss Whedon. Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, Dollhouse, all of it.

Officially, my favorite movie is The Passion of the Christ. Outside of that, it is The Avengers. I saw it the Sunday of its opening weekend in IMAX 3D. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! I experienced Nerdvana! If you can tell by now, I also really like Star Wars. I even liked the prequel trilogy. I'm probably the only Star Wars fan who liked Jar Jar.

Do you like... bananas? :trollestia:

I actually really hate bananas. I've never liked how they tasted.

Any favorite fanworks (Friendship is Witchcraft, Rainbow Dash Presents, .MOV series, etc.)?

Obviously, my favorite fanwork is "Snowdrop". It has almost the same emotional punch as "My Little Dashie". Despite what a lot of people thought of it, I really enjoyed "Double Rainboom" mostly because I grew up watching "The Powerpuff Girls". I even considered writing a sequel to that. An epic MLP/Powerpuff Girls crossover, but I couldn't come up with a good idea. JanAnimations "Button's Adventures" also holds a special place in my heart. Anything Bronies animate impresses me because I know how hard it is to do.

What do you plan on writing next?

Right now, I've been conceptualizing since the time between Seasons 2 and 3 this long series about Rainbow Dash discovering Daring Do is real and going on a bunch of adventures with her and discovering a secret connection between them. I won't reveal what it is because I don't know if I'm going to keep that or not. I might not though. It originally began as a two part story but after reading other similar stories, I decided to expand upon it. It will feature a lot of world-building for the creatures outside of Equestria, like Saddle Arabian horses, Zebras, Qilin, and Indriks. I couldn't figure out a good name for it. I was originally going to call it "Rainbow Dash and the Daring Do Mystery" or something like that, and Daring Do was going to write her books under the name "D.D. Roanling", a reference to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. Now, the episode "Daring Don't" basically canonized my idea and even gave Daring Do a J.K. Rowling-esque name: A.K. Yearling. I admit that's better than what I came up with. (Although I once came very close to calling her "D.D. Yearling" after I discovered that "yearling" was the term for a year old pony/horse.) And MLP gave me a better name for it. I can now call it the "Daring Don't Saga". I've already got the title for the first story ready: "Daring Don't: The Revenge of Ahuizotl"! However, I can't start writing until I finish my Master's degree which should be in May.

I have an idea for a one-shot about Sunset Shimmer meeting Discord in a dream and he offers her a chance to return to Equestria to redeem herself. That would also be connected with this "Daring Don't Saga". I had also intended originally to write a one-shot for Christmas about Hearth's Warming Eve dinner that explains a headcanon I have about what it really is when it looks like ponies are eating meat that is even based in mythology. But I'm going to working on my Master's thesis over the Christmas break so I won't be able to. I also want to expand on a one-shot I already have up called "The Coltbert Report of Equestria" which is a crossover between MLP and the The Colbert Report. The Colbert Report is my favorite satirical news show. I want to start adding more chapters to it that are further episodes featuring Stephen interviewing various ponies and stuff. I'm waiting for the season to end to come up with material for him to comment on, especially the Equestria Games.

I've also been percolating a two part crossover story between MLP and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that is heavily influenced by Equestria Girls. I've been watching the second season of TMNT getting a feel for it and stuff, but I haven't seen most of the first season so I'm waiting for a chance to catch up on it. Also, I want to see where the rest of this season goes because my idea so far requires Casey Jones to be full on Casey Jones, which I think has been hinted as going to happen later this season.

I've also been bouncing around an idea for a fusion fic between MLP and Pretty Little Liars. I don't watch Pretty Little Liars, but my sister does, and I've absorbed much of what I know of it from her. I call it "My Pretty Little Pony Liars". It would explore the secret reason why Twilight never had any friends and some of the not so nice things she ended up doing with some fellow classmates at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns.

Something I always thought was odd since watching "The Cutie Pox" is that no one has written an MLP crossover with The Big Lebowski. I want to do that. I call dibs!

What is your writing process like?

For a one-shot, I come up with an idea, write it down with a title, and then when I get a chance I sit down and just write it out. I proofread it a few times, and then I submit it. I usually try to do things in one draft. That's even the approach I took with the only long fic I wrote, a Firefly fanfic I wrote like seven years ago on Fanfiction.net. For the "Daring Don't Saga" I want to take the time a plot everything out, especially since "Daring Don't" threw a bit of a monkey wrench into my original ideas. I want to see what's still salvageable.

When you're not on this awesome website, what do you enjoy doing?

Other than this, I'm usually studying, eating, sleeping, watching TV, watching Youtube videos, praying and going to Church. Of those things, the only thing I don't enjoy is studying.

Any pets?

No, I don't have any pets. Growing up, my family used to have three chickens because we're Hispanic like that. My sister has for the longest time wanted a dog and continues to insist that I or her boyfriend get her one. My mother though, with whom my sister still lives with and I also do technically, will not accept having a dog in her house. I once thought that when I lived on my own that I would have a black cat. First, to show how superstitious I'm not, and secondly, because I used to be a be a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft. I don't know if I'll still do that. I certainly wouldn't call the cat "N-word Man" like H.P. Lovecraft did.

Are you super cool?

I like to think that I am. But not like this fool! What did I just watch!? This is what my nightmares are made of!

Did I ask enough questions?

Yes, you certainly asked enough questions.

Bad_Seed_72 also gets props for asking me great questions!

Well, this was fun! I should do this again when I have hundreds of followers. Have a nice day y'all.

God bless you all. God bless America. And God bless Equestria.

I enjoyed reading your answers to this long list of questions. And thanks for the pops! :pinkiehappy: I do tend to ask tough, thought-provoking questions. I'm the type of guy who likes comprehensive questions and answers at times (but simple questions and answers are fine too because we don't need to be comprehensive all the time :rainbowhuh:).

Awesome AMA answers! I actually am not very fond of Fluttershy but you and that video gave some good reasons as to why she is a good character. I also don't like Diamond and Spoon very much, nor Blueblood. I did write a story with Blueblood in it, though I did make him a bit nicer and more interesting than his canon self.

The closest thing I've found to it in the Anglosphere is a chicken fried steak. (I don't know why they call it that.)

It's called that because fried chicken is usually made by dipping chicken in a mixture of egg, flour, and spices. Thus, doing that to steak makes it "chicken fried" (fried the same way as chicken). I'm really not a fan of it, because I prefer my steak medium rare and with some wine on the side. :raritywink:

LOL, I didn't know H.P. Lovecraft called black cats that. :twilightoops: If you ever guys ever do get a dog, don't get a yappy one! :rainbowlaugh: Just my opinion, LOL. My folks have two medium-sized dogs (whippets) that are pretty awesome. They also have a yappy Chihuahua mix that I can't hate because he's too adorable, but, man, that bark...

You seem like a pretty interesting fellow and I'm glad I followed ya! :moustache: I will have to check out Doc Perseus's series if/when I get into Doctor Who. Never have read University Days or the Secret Origins of Scootaloo, so I'll have to check that out.

I really like your Daring Do/Dash idea. Good luck with that and your other stories! :scootangel:

I like to think that I am. But not like this fool! What did I just watch!?

The best thing on the Internet. :ajsmug:

God bless!

1584162 Sorry, I didn't make it clear enough, H.P. Lovecraft named his own personal cat "N-word Man". Wait, you're familiar with H.P. Lovecraft. I'm glad I was able to change your mind on Fluttershy. :yay: As well for you explanation behind the "chicken fried steak". The only way I see my sister having a dog is when she lives on her own; so that's up to her. And how is that the best thing on the internet. It was horrifying. Yes definitely check out those stories. Thank you again for your great questions and support.

1584242

Ah, okay. Gotcha. :scootangel: And yes, a bit!

The video is funnier when you realize he's parodying 99% of pop music out there. :rainbowlaugh:

And you're welcome!

1584248 Oh that what it was doing. :twilightoops:
