One Is the Loneliest Number That You Ever Knew

Two can be as bad as one
It's the loneliest number since the number one

No is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes is the saddest experience you'll ever know
'Cause one is the loneliest number that you'll ever know
One is the loneliest number even worse than two, yeah

It's just no good anymore since you went away
Now, I spend my time just
    Making up rhymes of yesterday

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky

I feel super cringe for posting yet another self-hype blog, so I'm gonna borrow a bit of Tolkien's goodwill to get through it.

January 2, 2023. Three days. Peace.

    Best,

Best. Day. EVER! · 11:28pm Nov 7th, 2013

Ladies and gentlemen,

The day has finally arrived. This is the day where all of my works and struggles are affirmed. This is day where the author in me looks back on all his late night keyboard hammering sessions and one too many cups of bowel-disturbing java with a swagger in his step and spit in the eye. This is the day where a man can say he came, he saw, and he conquered.

My friends, today is the day where I received my very first piece of fanart.

Behold. This little beauty right here is the first piece of fan artwork I have ever received in nearly two years of writing The Journey of Graves.

I absolutely love it.

Created by reader TheReanimator, I've been staring at this picture and giggling like Spike with a Gala ticket because it is so wonderfully fantastic. I mean, where do I begin? The atmosphere is spot on. Between the heavy thunder clouds, streaking lighting, and solid, cel-shaded coloring that makes me think of epic, gritty comics, this is the sort of air a man like Graves should have. And speaking of Graves, the sharp glint of his eyes, the grim set of his face, and the general attitude of "I will murder you eight ways till Sunday before breakfast if need be with as much though as scraping the gunk from my boots" is exactly the kind of feel I felt he would have. I could go on about how his hat and coat are functionally stylishly impeccable, how the lightning speaks right to his signature spells, or how the blue crystal on his spell gun (a totally original idea by the artist) is a beautifully subtle nod to Rarity's involvement in his life, but I think you get the picture. I love this piece of artwork and I am so amazingly lucky to have it.

So I know I just posted a blog not too long ago, but I just had to share this with you guys because it really is the most fantastic thing that's happened to me all year. Seriously, the fact that TheReanimator liked The Journey enough to create this masterpiece is an absolute honor of the highest order.

There you have it, my very first piece of fanart. And for those of you who saw this and thought, "hey, I'd like to try my hand at the drawings and such," but doesn't know where to start, just let me know! I actually sent TheReanimator lots of additional information in order to help him come up with his rendition of the gunmetal marshal. So if you want to add to the epicness with a depiction of his adventures, explore the magic of Gala night with him and Rarity in sublime attire, or even have a go at some of the hilarious hijinks involving Sweetie Belle and Shining Armor, hit me up! I love this piece and hope it may be the first of more to come!

You can reach me by PM, or you can send me an email at TheJourneyofGraves@gmail.com. Once again, big thanks to TheReanimator for this spectacular work, and I hope to hear from you all soon!

Sincerely,
GentlemanJ

Well that's pretty awesome.

Incredible! :pinkiegasp:
Just like I imagined him as I read the story!

you know when you imagine a made up character and it looks so cool and badass and all that.
when you see it on paper. words cannot do it justice.
it's awesome and you deserve such an awesome pic.

It's awesome.
The artist is awesome.
You're awesome.
Continue being awesome and get more awesome stuff from awesome people.

I think a good drawing would be the sniper shot in the first story, when Graves takes the long distance shot to take down the last marshal.
.

With one swift motion, the traveler raised his rifle and pointed it out at the horizon. He stood perfectly still, the light of the afternoon sun reflecting off his grey eyes like silver disks. And as he stood, his back straight, his arm steady, and his face set with cool, unwavering determination… in that moment, the same thought ran through the minds of all six girls: this is what a hero looks like.
He fired.
A furious clap of thunder roared as a brilliant lance of crackling white light erupted from the gun’s barrel with an intense blast of wind. The girls cried out in surprise as the byproduct of the spell buffeted them. The traveler, however, his coat whipping around him in a frenzy, remained unmoving and impassively watched the arcane bolt fly forth.

That shot would just look amazing, if it was from the girls perspective, and if I could draw I'd totally do this scene.

Maybe it's me being critical, but I think it could be better. XD his face looks more angry than grim to me, and he seems a bit on the skinny side. NOT that he's a massive man, but he seems TOO...

Someone sounds like a happy camper.

Why does he look like an angry David Tennant with a hat?

I may not be into men, but if I was, I guarantee I would find that sexy.

This pic was so bad ass, that I decided to use it as my desktop background. Many thanks to you, GentlemanJ, for creating the story and to TheReanimator for creating this wonderful piece of art.

1490095 That actually would be an awesome shot.

...
Why haven't I created fanart for my favorite author on Fimfiction yet? :facehoof:

And this will be a start of an influx of fanart. Hopefully
Seriously, way to go man!

Congrats on the pic dude! It does look freakin amazing and must feel awesome to have a character that you brought to life wih your stories come to life in picture form.

Though having said that I still will go ahead and use my little head cannon pic of Graves when raeding future Graves stories.

Change the gun to a more magic slinger, cut down the beard to a bit of a 5-o-clock shadow or so and that's basically how I view him. Oh well point is it's awesome to see graves get some love and can't wait for more of him.
