Parish "Harpo" Nandermane · 5:59pm Sep 30th, 2013
This is just a random thought I had while doing research for my current story, The Silent Dirge. I take it that at least a few of you are familiar with this pony:
Pretty much every fanwork I've seen that has this character says that his name is Harpo (which makes sense), but according to the wiki, he goes by the name Parish Nandermane (which is a bit of an odd name for a pony, but no less odd than Frederick Horseshoepin in my book). Granted, I do believe that this was a relatively recent update, because I do remember the wiki saying his name was Harpo at one point.
Out of curiosity, are there any other fanworks that call this character by his real name, or am I breaking new ground here and thus proving myself to be a huge nerd? It doesn't matter to me either way; I just thought this was interesting. I find a lot of weird things interesting.
Well, I'm not expert on what various stories call that pony, but it's been my experience that you're pretty well informed on fandom trivia. You're probably way ahead of the curve on this.
It could be that Harpo is a nickname while Parish Neadermane is his real name. That's what I would do.
Oh boy names, a very tricky thing in this fandom. Out side the humanized fix Great Teacher Vinyl Scratch , in which he did have a more human name, Harpo was a nickname, I haven't seen any other name. Fans tend to stick with the fan names, case in point is Bonbon.
1386026 Yeah, that's what I ended up doing in my story. I figured if I just called him Parish, everyone would be like: "Who the heck is that? " So I established that most ponies simply refer to him as Harpo.
1386039 I'm sure you're right. I sure wouldn't know who Parish Neadermane was supposed to be unless you gave me context.
1386029 Really? I know Bon-Bon was based off of a previous generation pony called Sweetie Drops, but I thought Bon-Bon was her official name.
Edit: Turns out I got the backwards. My bad!
But yeah, I see what you're getting at. I can think of plenty of ponies that have similar name situations. Golden Harvest/Carrot Top, Minuette/Colgate, Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo, Amethyst Star/Sparkler. I even poked fun at the Cloudchaser/Stormwalker confusion in my story Let it Rain. Boy, that was one esoteric running gag.

Saw some of her official merch, Sweetie Drops is her name.I think someone used that for a fix that had SweetieBelle being Bonbon's daughter
1386052 But, we already know that's not the case (unless you're referring to an AU fic). We saw Sweetie Belle's parents in the episode Sisterhooves Social.
Eh, I'll probably stick with calling her Bon-Bon. I dunno, that name just seems to fit her better. Besides, according to the wiki, both names are correct, so I might as well go with my personal preference.

She was adopted out, though I may have been seeing thing since I can't seem to find the fic.
On the wiki if their name is in bold then that is the canon name, italic I think is the generally accepted fanon name.
I still call her Bon Bon since I didn't know about the other name.
1386132 Well, in Bon-Bon's case, both Bon-Bon and Sweetie Drops are in bold, so that's why I said that both names are correct.
