    Season 9 Retrospective

Warning: Season-wide spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

I need to write this while the emotions of the finale are still fresh in my mind. Though the stories will continue in the comics (and countless fanfics, I'm sure), this is truly the end of an animation era. So, as a final season, did it go out with a bang, or a whimper? Follow me below the break to see my take.

Random Thoughts: The Beginning of the End

Mama pajama, that was a rush. I really feel like something was rekindled here. Season 8 was alright, but I will admit it didn't have the same energy that made me fall in love with this show. This episode, however, had that energy in spades. Follow me below the break as I just gush a bit on what an epic season opener this was.

    Season 8 Retrospective

Warning: Season-wide spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

Welp, that was fun, huh? I know for most of you, the season ended earlier thanks to the Australian broadcast, but I didn't have the luxury of checking that out. Also, I'd rather do things by the book.

    Random Thoughts: The Washouts

Warning: Spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

Let me just start off by saying great googily moogily, what a weekend this was! I thought Season 7 had scheduling problems, but this was just insane! Well, at least it's still trackable. Unlike some other shows I can mention *cough*TheLoudHouse*cough*.

1. I know the title is fitting to the theme of this being the final season, but when I saw it, I automatically thought of the crappy B movie about giant killer grasshoppers starring Peter Graves. Hey, I grew up watching a lot of MST3K; cut me some slack. :derpytongue2:

2. I remember that when she started the show, Lauren Faust said she planned for Twilight to take Celestia's place. Good to see that the writers are sticking to that plan even after all this time.

3. I didn't think we could go any farther back in Equestria's history than the Hearth's Warming pageant, but classic G1 villain Grogar has proved me wrong. And considering that he was able to free Tirek and Cozy Glow from Tartarus as well as bring Sombra back from the dead, he's not a force to be messed with. I can think of no better creature to fill the role of this season's villain.

4. It's hilarious how Cozy Glow is the only one on the same page as Grogar here, as well as the fact that Tirek and Chrysalis are not taking her seriously. I hope we learn more about how she became so corrupted.

5. It's also hilarious how genre-savvy the Mane 6 have become. They pretty much called Twilight's freakout down the line, to the point where they made her a verb describing the very scenario. I think Silver Quill's gonna be out of a job. :ajsmug:

6. Anyone feel like King Sombra being a complete egotistical chatterbox was just compensation for his complete lack of presence in Season 3? That's what I felt.

7. No joke: when everything started going wrong, I thought Twilight was still trapped in Sombra's spell. Not sure how I feel about being proven wrong, since while it would've been totally cliché, the Tree's still gone. I don't know how they're gonna deal with that. :applejackunsure:

8. We haven't seen Discord display this level of wisdom and trickery in a while, and it was a welcome sight. Just like in the beginning of Season 4, Discord shows that his antics aren't only for his own selfish gain anymore. And yes, I did call him totally playing possum when Sombra shot him down.

So, in conclusion. I am so super excited to see where this goes. Especially since Grogar's plan involves something incredibly epic:

A Ponified Legion of Doom! Now I have a question for those most familiar with the DCU. Who is Grogar most like? Lex Luthor, Gorilla Grodd, or Vandal Savage?

I'm just going to hide in this post from the impending REEE shitstorm..

Looks like this final season's off to a pretty good start.

reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Probably Vandal Savage. He's been around for basically forever, making life worse for everyone else.

But yeah, a very promising start to the end.

Promising indeed. I am full of confidence that our heroines who were clearly out of their depth this episode can handle what is coming.
